Did some work today, but a little less than expected, we cut the sides, but not drilled them or put the bearings in them, and we chopped down the wheels so they slotted in to each other. I have lay'ed it out in a way to give you an idea of what were doing, it's to saparate pods, with wheels motor and chain in, and the weapon will go between the two pods. And the shafts won't be going across. More work should follow tomorrow, hopefully the side pods should be fully mounted, with the exception of the bearings as we need to by a drill bit to cut the holes. Should be going to the uk champs, but we will sign up a little later.

Looking good. How are you stopping the wheels moving side to side on the axles and rubbing against the sides?

There's bits on the wheels to stop it rubbing, they just go against the bearings, and in that picture the plastic is just resting on the shafts, just to give you an idea. The holes will be drilled later...

Work today, started motor mounts, and inner bulkheads, we also looked at mounting the bearings, but we may need a new drill to do it well. We couldn't do much more work, as we need to go and buy some bits. But progress is going ok, we may be able to do some extra work next week, which is good.

Done some more work, http://s1111.photobucket.com/albums/h46 ... B7E4EB.jpg nearly finished the drive pods, just have to drill a few holes for the motors. Although, they weigh a kilo more than planned, which is a bit of a problem, so we're trying to change it to make it lighter.

They're called thrust bearings!!

Finally found what I was on about, I knew what problem I was trying to solve just didn't know what to use.

Thrust bearings will stop the wheels rubbing against the sides and reduce friction.

Yeah at the moment its just spaced with washers, that may be a future change, but atm the main problem is weight. its going to be hugely over weight. each wheel pod is going to weigh more than 4.5 kilos! and so we only have 4 kilos for batteries electronics, a weapon and a frame, so we need to loose like a kilo and a half from each wheel pod, to get it all in! I think it is quiet easily achievable, just a lot of holes, and were replacing the wheels as including the sprocket, they weigh over a kilo each!

More work today, cut some of the weapon mounts, and mounted all the chains on one side, and just did the motor mount on the others. After the draw for the uk champs, and discovering that bruiser 2's first fight was with LS4 and trevor wright spinner (any idea what's its like) and deciding the the 4 screws holding my robot together, wouldn't be enough, so we've got I nice peice of 4mm steel, for our anti nasty spiny thingy weapon... Which evolves a wedge, and some rubber tire....
