would a drill motor and threaded rod set up give you a force enough to go through hdpe? or would it need to be hydrolic or pneumatic...etc

I was thinking of using a full pressure pneumatic ram.... As I can't fauns a descent actuator, or a light enough hydrolic system.... So I was going to use a hefty ram....But idk how I'd make it sting enough for that, a big lump of hardox me thinks....

i've made a few crushers, and i've got a half finished one i started a while ago. i found the main problem was like tony found the forces used ending up breaking the robot its self!

my vertical crusher uses a 200kg actuator and that goes through 5mm poly and hdpe like its nothing even 8mm and it happily eats through computer towers etc etc

be nice to get it to a full combat event where i could have some one on ones cause mine could really damage the likes of explosion and some of the other really good robots with only thin hdpe armour- just a case of finding the time to finish things

how effective a crusher Is depends on a few things

the force the linear actuator or other exerts
the ratio between pivot points (this changes the tip force)
Shape and position of tip
-for example a tip with right angled edges will work better
-how far tip is from linac

my fw crusher was originally a linak minipak that was overvolted to 24v and in the end produced 10000n (1000kg) , however because the crusher tip isn't on the end of the linac there will only be 700kg at the claw tip (hence above)

So that's what I learnt when designing mine

I have since changed to a dewalt drill motor as the linacs motor so the motion is much quicker .

Ok thanks, I was going to put the ram about third of the way up the arm a nice traditionally cerved so the tips pretty verticle, steel mounts, either mild or hardox, and a hard steel tip, hopefully something harder than hardox, so it doesn't blunten when it's used against that, but I don't know what is that hard that won't instantly brake off, so any suggestions for that would be nice, like what are the blades on spinning blades made from? And thanks for every ones help so far!

also the most force is exerted when the tip is at a right angle to the 'ram'

Yeh ok thanks, and I was wondering, as ive been searching around the form for a while and I can't find what it is, so how many litres of CO2 is in a 20 ounce CO2 paintball bottle (or the fire extinguisher equivalent)?

I just searched '20oz co2' and found the answer within five posts.
