The peak currents on a pair of drill motors are quite high... you'd be best to overrate the speed controller.

sabretooths have a tendency to get bored and blow up, avoid'em.

Thats why I went overkill, cos I don't want it to randomly blow up, I will just pick one and see what happens I guess,l they all have there good and bad points

I would expect a Scorpion XXL to handle two drill motors per side, even though the continuous current rating isn't high, but I couldn't say for sure as I've only experienced the XL running one motor per side.
Never used a Sabretooth but based on the experiences of other people, I'd tend to avoid them. If you can afford them, I'd go for the Victors. Definitely much more robust and would handle what you're asking of them. One issue that causes them to go up in smoke is the FETs on the board getting moved/bumped over time, to the point where a couple of them end up touching each other and that's when the sparks/smoke appears (at least that's what happened on mine anyway). But a bit of pre-use preparation, as well as visual inspection between battles/events, can easily reduce this possibility.

I remember you saying your lease is quite strict regarding certain items but, just out of interest, what's the security regulation that allows you to have a Sabretooth but not Electronizes? (if I understood the first part of your post correctly)

The company Electronize refunded my payment and said that because of a 'Security' issue that they could not sell me the speed controllers, and could not accept any future orders as a result; nothing to do with the house this time. The reason I keep asking all the questions Is that I have already had one attempt at buying the parts and got it VERY wrong. I do have a sabertooth already but its the 2x12 version, though it has run fine in testing for the past 9 months.

The new Scorpion XXL V2is £115 , delivered at the front door, with enclosure and fan.

It's not the cheapest, nor the most powerfull dual speedo. But it's simple to use and we never had a failure with the V1.
