Ooooh can't wait, Scruffy and Night Fury did brilliantly at this years champs two very good machines
Did you end up managing to break Night fury in the end or did it just soldier on? Extremely tough machine, both of them!
And scruffy 3's looking great already too! Still think you should make it out of 7mm hardox instead of HDPE though![]()
That's not Hdpe i think it's mild steel
lol night fury will still run if i re attach a wire that got yanked in its last whiteboard
the new scruffy is mild steel tube cut in half, hopefully it will deflect the drum spinners better and if not it provides a good air gap from the electrics
the new night fury will begin in a few weeks time just have to calculate the new size to accommodate the thick hdpe and more powerful drive
bit of an update
scruffys coming along nicely just have to weld up the chassis
found my large sheet of RG1000 that i bought from plastics direct, since its recycled UHMWPE and has similar properties it should make a good internal bulkhead/ motor mount for night fury which will be surrounded in 30mm hdpe
i should have enough rg1000 to make 2 sets of bulkheads which will allow me to test out the makita drives and if any problems occur i can then go back to my original ryobi drive setup
What do you use to cut all your metal? Disk cutter?
Are're those curved sides just inviting flippers and vert/drum spinners?
i just use 1mm slitting discs on my angle grinder
also i had 10mm ground clearance on all my bots so flippers could get under easily enough, im hoping the curved edges will deflect thing better ...... at the mo each scruffy has been a trial of different body ideas so if it doesn't work i will go back to sloped sides like scruffy 2
Scruffy 2 looked like it could handle the punishment quite well, the curved sides definitely make it easier for things to get underneath but also might deflect a hit better than say just a flat panel, regardless of whether it's a sloped panel or not.
