its grade 2.
nothing wrong with grade 2. It is more likely to bend than tear during an impact. Only a possible issue if you want to weld it as you have to have the right rods.
Even Grade 1 is good material. Easely weldable with a DC welder and the right electrodes, machinability simular to mild steel, just requiring more coolant, and equaly strong, but with 2/3ths of the weight.
I can second that, with only really basic tools (Dremel and a bench vice) I find it works quite well with coolant (water) and has strength such that in antweight applications at least, the mountings break before the plate will.
