Hi Guys

Grant has really covered the brazed on saw tips point and as he said it maybe worth running some testing. I appreciate the other robots maybe wood but the walls and floor are all hard metals, thats where I see the issue.

That said I think the wooden robots could be very interesting as they would be very cheap and easy to fix. We have just announced our event at Fleet Air Arm Museum and think it would be a great opportunity to run your robots there in our full combat arena. Details can be found here.

Braised Tips being the issue actually causes wider issues since some non hardened wood cutter tools use them..... Which was my second plan.
Looks like I'm having a design rethink!

Anyone fancy making me 3 184mm x 2mm disks?

Before we worry about what types of commercial blades should be allowed I think its worth you trying the normal circular saw blades at our Fleet event. As we are aware that you and only you are running them (if anyone plans to please let us know) then we can work around employing extra measure's when using your robot to use as a test scenario. It may be that the blades fine, or that the blades breaks but all the tips stay attatched. Atleast then we can put together a proposal to allow all forms of commercial discs excluding angle grinding discs.

ps. Why Wed and Thurs? I believe it's Easter Friday the day after, I could imagine the museum would have a decent turn out. Or is that exactly why the museum did want you there that day? Space issues.

These day's are fixed by Fleet Air Arm's so I'm not 100% sure why these are as they are. I presume it's to work around other event's at that venue already booked and also we are often used on quiet days to try and draw in more of the public.

Having butchered my old bar-tooth drum for Drumroll II, my plans to use it in an MDF bot have been scuppered. So figured sorting out a new design was in order. I was planning on using a saw blade at first, but having read James and Grant's comments (and understanding their reasoning) I figure it'll be easier to just cut a disc out of some steel plate. There's a hint of familiarity kicking about here....

Going to nick the name Paws from my planned beetle (it can be Paws Jnr). Still planning on using a Speed 900 to spin it. Won't be a huge amount of kinetic energy in the disc, should be like Pussycat in the sense that it'll be fast and shreddy, more akin to a sawblade. Any objections, speak now or forever hold your peace

Think i remember Jamie saying he's not making it, midweek and an 8hr drive away are a big deterrent. We'll be testing them the weekend before though

Yeah, I know a FW Pussycat replica has been done before but Kitty hasn't come out to play in a long time, and my version's more for fun and smashing up than for serious competition

And as mentioned by Tony, the Yeovil event is a no-goer for me, which is a pity as it sounds like it will be good fun, but leaves me free to focus on the champs. I don't know how many wooden robots will be going to the champs (just yours and mine so far PJ!) and not sure if there'll be enough free time to battle them as a separate class, but can always just throw it into whiteboards if need be.
