It is a 4 channel transmitter [with a 7 channel receiver]. The transmitter is quite basic and runs off 8 x AA batteries but there is a recharging jack so you could supply our own recharageables and charger. I've never done a range test but would be surprized if it were not adequate. I'll do one when it stops raining if you like. I think there is a user review on Giant Cod.
