How are you solving the problem of having the robot in 2 halves?
I started designing a robot in two halves a while back, and my only solution was to run cables through the shaft that connected them.
Look seriously impressive by the way.

I guess you mean wires from 1 pod to the other....that is hollow tube....there will be slits milled out for wires. the tube is stationary as the weapon is mounted on bearings around the tube.
Yes that is what I mean.
Looks amazing. Having rather decent facilities to manufacture the bits tho ;)
Been in my shed this afternoon welding up chassis parts. Now ready for parts to be keyed and outer bulkheads to be made. Then its wiring up and hope it works.
Really looking forward to the new year when we can see the benefits of your labour with this one mate.It looks really exciting and innovative.
Swanny, this is looking good. Looking forward to Barnsley already :)
Im assuming it will behave like big nipper?
only with 3 revolutions per second of the arm (i believe, correct me if im wrong) it will have an insane amount of power
It will be very powerful indeed. Around 140hp on the gear on the weapon. should do about 3 revolutions a second ish yes. It wont behave like big nipper but there are similarities.
Get some new pics swanny
Will do Dave. I am struggling to get anything done at the mo. Moving house yet again. Have done more since the last pics tho so will get some up soon.
Here comes the excuse as to why it wasn't ready !!!
It will be at Barnsley ready or not....Probably the latter but it will be there.
Good looking robot, but your description confuses me. Where does the 140hp come from? I can only see Mag motors in your pictures. I thought you'd need at least 32 motors to get that much power.
Maggie....3.8hp, Gear ratio 36/1... Do the maths. And yes if you want to get picky i did round it up slightly.
-facepalm- that is not how power works.. (sorry, I've had a couple of motor customers make the same mistake, gets a bit tedious explaining to them that power is not interchangeable with torque)
Don't give him any ideas! :mrgreen:Quote:

So your lifter is 36 times slower then the motor but you have 36 times as many torques. Still 3.8hp out the end. Minus a bit.
I couldn't figure out how robot had more power then my car. I wanted what ever you were using in my robot.
Actually I still want what your using.
either way its gonna be powerful.
Jonno asked me to do some calculations.......
Magmotor at 3840oz-in = 27Nm
27Nm x 36=972Nm
Assuming pivot to tip of spade of 500mm = 1944N=198kg of force at the tip less losses through the gearbox.
Also, cycles per second; Magmotor at peak = 4000rpm = 1.85 cycles/second.
This thing is something else...................don't you dare get bored of this Swanny.....
Well impressed with the quality of the engineering btw
exactly what I made it Trev
I wont get bored Trev. I do however feel it will buckle under force of landing from a flip. I can see me having to rebuilt it with a bigger center bar. It might not but will see. I certainly hope not.
hi swanny nippers lifter runs on 800-1
are the tyres on full tilt pneumatic we like pneumatic tyres :proud:
If the outer fixings for the centre bar have flexible/rubber mounts, so they will absorb impact you should be OK.
You may find the external wheels get a battering but if you have a few spares you should be fine. (I think the tyres are solid BTW).
the only problem I think we may see with this design is the robot may rotate about the front axle when it is trying to lift something too heavy. like Big Nipper. But the body is a little longer and the reach is less, so it may be OK.
Hi Shane,
Hope the move had gone well. Are you still in Mablethorpe? Have you still got room out the back for your barbe. How is the new bott progressing? Do you think it will be ready for Barnsley?
