      Information
Maelstrom was originally built as St. Agro by Terry Carlin from St. Agnes, Cornwall in 2002. It first appeared on Series 6 of Robot Wars, it was modified for the next year where it was beaten in the semi-finals by X-Terminator. In 2008, St. Agro was sold on to Team Shock who rebuilt and renamed it as Maelstrom. Under their wing, Maelstrom has become fairly successful in many robot competitions in the UK including the 2009 and 2012 UK Championships where in both competitions, finished as runner-up losing to Terrorhurtz and Big Nipper in the finals respectively. Maelstrom is easily recognised by its double-flipper design which is designed to work equally both ways up. The benefit of this is that gas doesn't have to be used to self-right and also its display of LED lights make this unique looking contender stick out in the arena.
