Fusion 360 here. Very little idea what to do with it when I started but there are many tutorials online and now I can work my way around it to a reasonable extent. Also, you can't beat the price.

I use Sketchup Make because I'm both a cheapskate and a scrub. It works fine though, it's quick to learn and some very experienced roboteers here use it too.

fusion360, solidworks, inventor, they all do the job once you know how to use them, more down to personal preference

I personally use AutoDesk Maya it's a 3D modelling and animation software but I have worked with it enough to use it for CAD a tad pricey though.

Inventor for gears, Fusion 360 for everything else.

The best thing about Fusion is being able to import almost any format and having access to models in different locations without copying stuff around. I also use it for CAM on my cnc mill.
