    Mechanical Maelstrom Season 3.0

It€™s been a long journey, but here we are at the third main season of Mechanical Maelstrom! This time around everything is going to be different to previous seasons, you€™ll soon see what I mean!

The rankings will be revealed in the next post. I€™m using a whole new (points-based) system in which Season 1.0, Season 2.0 and Annihilation have been taken into account.

    Tournament rules/details are below.

    1) Entering

Upon entering the tournament each entrant must supply each of the following things:
    ï˜ Team Name
    ï˜ Location of Representation (e.g. current location/home)
ï˜ Four heavyweight entries and their stats (preferably posted in the thread itself). They can be realies or vapours, or a combination.
ï˜ Maximum of 12 entries. Any vacant spots filled upon the closure of sign-ups will be filled with realies selected by me. (If entered) These realie entries will not be counted as just filler, but actual contenders with an equal chance of victory.
ï˜ Places may be reserved, but the reservation will stand for two weeks only, though they can be renewed.

    2) Stats
All robots must comply to the following rules:
ï˜ Nitrogen pressure allowed up to 2400psi, hydraulics up to 5000psi
    ï˜ Maximum voltage - 72v
    ï˜ Maximum weights - Wheeled Robots: 100kg, Tracked/Shufflers: 110kg, Walkers: 150kg
ï˜ The definition of a walker is that there must be legs that have two or more stages of movement. Rotary camshafts cannot make up any part of the walking mechanism.
ï˜ Minimum weight - 80.1kg for all machines
ï˜ Clusterbots are allowed, but once 50% of the total weight is eliminated the whole entry is out.
ï˜ No un-tethered projectile weaponry is allowed.
ï˜ No electrical damage (e.g. Bar Heaters) or flamethrowers are allowed.
ï˜ No flying robots are allowed.
ï˜ Stats are to be supplied in any format, but you will be notified if I judge the stats to be very unrealistic or extremely overweight.
ï˜ Standard FRA stats to be given. Pictures are helpful, but not mandatory.

    3) Battle Rules
ï˜ You can eliminate your opponent in a variety of ways: You can immobilise 50/100% of their drive (KO), flip or push them into a place from where they cannot move (e.g. the pit, TKO), flip them out of the arena (OOTA) or beat them on a judge€™s decision if more than one robot is mobile after a 3 minute round (JD).
ï˜ The judges have a set amount of points to separate between the competing robots. The amount of points differs from category to category, in order of importance: Damage ~ 30 points, Aggression ~ 20 points and Control ~ 10 points.
ï˜ Control refers to both how well a robot was controlled and also how it controlled/dominated the match

    4) Annihilation Stadium V3
ï˜ This is a 20 x 20m2 box with stainless steel floor and 55cm high hardox walls.
ï˜ There is a colour-coded picture of the arena below. You can see the Red and Blue starting squares (each large enough to accommodate 2 robots), the pit release button is marked green, and the black square is the pit. The yellow strips represent the spike strips.
ï˜ The orange squares mark interchangeable weapon spaces. From round to round a different hazard will be present. Further information on each individual hazard will be provided with the line-ups for each round.

    5) Tournament Structure
ï˜ First off there will be 12 4-robot eliminators. There will be 1 ranked robot in each eliminator. 1 robot will advance from each eliminator.
ï˜ In round 2, the 12 survivors will be paired into 6 one-on-one matches. The winners will advance, while the 6 losing machines will be sorted into 2 x 3 way melees. 1 machine from each 3-way melee advances into the next round to join the other 6.
ï˜ This leaves 8 survivors for the quarter-finals, which will be 4 one-on-one clashes. The winners advance once more.
ï˜ The 4 semi-finalists will be paired off once again into 2 x one-on-one fights. The losers will duke it out for third place, while the victors advance for the final time.
ï˜ The Grand Final is a one-on-one conflict between the 2 remaining robots.

    6) Writing Structure
ï˜ Battles will be posted in pairs.
ï˜ I am aiming for one update per week minimum, so get your tactics in ASAP!

    Let the entries flow! ><

Thanks for the quick response guys!

    Andy, your spot is reserved

Joey, great stuff looking forward to seeing the new Nidhogg and Eye of Ran

Paul, your in, looking forward to stats and also you'll need to supply your area of representation and a team name (I think it's Team Insanity, but correct me if I'm wrong?). There'll be no specific limit on the amount of setups, but keep it down to a realistic amount, so about 5-6 if that's cool? More is okay though.

Lian, great team and thanks for getting in stats so quickly the only problem is that the weight limit for shufflers in this competition is 110kg and Metallic Doom weighs in at 150kg, so if you could swap it out or alter it

Tracy and Kody - awesome thanks for entering so quickly ><
