If someone armours up a 27 MHz RC car [and provides a link and a power light] and wants to fight then of course they should be allowed to. It won't last long but it will bring someone over the barrier and into the pits and chances are that they will come back with something much better. That is why I feel so strongly that 27 MZ should be allowed for feathers with no active weapon - to give more chances for new people to get a taste of our wierd and wonderful sport.
If the person tech checking feels the machine is dangerous then they won't allow it to run.
Final call is always down to the tech checker.
I doubt any event organiser would turn away a robot unless the tech check showed the machine to be unsafe.
I agree with Kane's point but of course new people who read the FRA rules will not be aware that this option exists. So I suggest we formalize it in the rules - something along the lines below:
4.1.5 New Entrants.
An entrant who has never competed before may use any radio system that is legal for the ground control of models. This exemption applies to a maximum of two events.
What good robot didn't require smart use of the skills and means available to the builder? Trowing money to the problem doesn'tmean succes is garantied.Originally Posted by typhoon_driver
Mantis will be at the O2 event.Mantis is one that jumps to mind, never had to crush, just clamped and lifted opponents.
That was Splinter, the part that was ripped off at the front was a part of a large plastic garbage bin lid. And you forgot the axe. There was another machine in robot wars, can't remember its name though. It had two horizontal arms that came from the side and clamped onto it's opponent. Got the front torn off by hypnodisc.
Splinter had its last event at Wickstead, a fight against Terrorhurtz and Kan-opener.
