    You know, Joey was energetic enough to get a fight up. Well, so shall I. 'Cause I'm a good person, you see.

    ...nah. I just feel like it.

    Eliminator 2
    Drilla Killa 7 vs. Mornington Crescent

    ----
    From England...Drilla Killa 7!
    Pretty much the oldest one on the circuit. Will experience help it out in the warzone?

    Melissa: Hello.
    Richard: Evenin'.
    Melissa: This is Drilla Killa, I presume.
    Richard: Yes it is, it's got a wedge at the front and an inverted at the back, and drills inside of them to ram and damage other robots.
    Melissa: And this is the oldest robot on the circuit right now?
    Richard: I'd like to think so, yes.
    Melissa: Then give it all for the golden oldies.
    Richard: Definitely will, thank you.

    It's 8 years old, this machine, but its motives are the same. 6 wheel drive and Perm 080s propel this beast to 17mph, and it can ram other robots with either the front wedge or the drill that comes out of it. Flip it over, it's pretty much the same, and its Hardox armour looks quite nice too, but the wheels are exposed at the top.

    C&B1: Didn't compete.
    C&B2: Didn't compete.
    C&B3: Didn't compete.
    ----
    From Glasgow, Scotland...Mornington Crescent!
    Now here's a fine spinner we can wake up to in the morning.

    Melissa: Mornington Crescent! What's the rundown?
    Steve: The rundown is that this robot has two spinning rings, one on top of the other, m'dear. One spins one way, the other spins the other. If that makes sense.
    Melissa: I might have to think about it. Err...this robot is inspired by the London Underground?
    Steve: Quite possibly.
    Melissa: And you're certain it'll do well against Drilla Killa?
    Steve: Yes indeedy. Good to be going up against Richie again to be honest.
    Melissa: Good luck to you both, then. Should be good.
    Steve: 'Twill be.

    Like its opponent, Hardox composes the armour. Unlike its opponent, however, Magmotors power the drive and Lynch motors power the weapons...Team Braveheart claims it will be easier to drive with its weapon set-up, but we'll see. It's invertible, but that means that, again, its wheels are exposed to attack from above.

    C&B1: Didn't compete.
    C&B2: Didn't compete.
    C&B3: Didn't compete.

    Roboteers, stand by...

    House robots: Taki III, Renegade

    ACTIVATE!

    And so the second fight of the tournament begins! It's Drilla Killa 7 on the attack first, shooting out like a bullet towards the newcomer spinner known as Mornington Crescent...only to find that the spinner is no longer at its starting position! Drilla Killa turns around to find Steve's spinner moving around, trying to avoid the wedge of Drilla Killa, but Richard's got the wedge pointed right at Mornington Crescent, and now bears down upon it with shocking speed! Mornington Crescent is unable to get out of the way fully, and is nailed by the wedge on the edge, sent to the side of the rammer and away, still spinning, as Richard turns and moves in to attack again. Steve directs his spinner away, and is able to fully dodge the charge of Drilla Killa this time, and finally manages to slam into the side of the ramming machine! The skirt takes the brunt of the hit from the lower spinning ring and nearly gets shaved off the side! The upper ring can't seem to hit Drilla Killa, however, as the hit skirt is still blocking Mornington Crescent. Drilla Killa sees its chance and turning around it bores into the double ring spinner, scooping it onto the wedge, and slams it into the arena wall!

    CRASH!!!

    That can't have been good. Mornington Crescent is propelled across the arena from that single hit, its upper ring stopped, as it comes to rest directly on the floor flipper. As no robot has yet been counted it, it does not activate, but Steve is keen not to have any tricks played on him and gets his machine away before they do happen. Drilla Killa sees the spinner recovering and comes flying into the onset; again it seems futile for Mornington Crescent to get away as the wedge thunders into the half-sped-up lower ring and sends Mornington Crescent into the air in a great bounce. As soon as it lands, Drilla Killa reverses into it and starts to it push it around...unforuntately, this is allowing Mornington Crescent's lower spinning ring to get back up to speed, since nothing is impeding it! Realizing his mistake, Richard tries to turn and attack, but Steve is much too quick, and seconds later the previously damaged skirt parts with the side of Drilla Killa, sending it away across the arena! Drilla Killa isn't too happy at this point and gets the wedge back in play now, ready to deliver some whoopin' and hollerin' on Mornington Crescent's case ...but the upper spinning ring is back at full speed. Richard knows he can't be too reckless and so keeps the wedge facing his enemy, knowing Steve must make the first move. And indeed Mornington Crescent is trying to get around the rammer...and now he seems to be succeeding! Drilla Killa isn't turning fast enough! Steve pours on the pressure and guns Mornington Crescent, its lower spinning ring now at strength, towards the now exposed side of Drilla Killa, who can't get the wedge in the zone fast enough!

    CRASH!!!

    It's the side of the wedge that gets the blow, hardly taking even a scratch, though. But Mornington Crescent isn't done. The attack's left the side open for another blow, which Steve jumps upon!

    CRASH!!!

    The upper spinning ring smacks Drilla Killa now, sending the oldbie flying across the arena! There's a noticable dent in the side of Drilla Killa now, but it seems there's not too much damage done, so it comes back on the attack...only to find the spinner very much alive and very much up to speed again! Richard can't believe how tough the fight has become, but steels himself for another bout as Drilla Killa flies into the storm of spinning metal that is Mornington Crescent. Or it would have, if Steve hadn't moved his machine away from the charge yet again! This leaves Drilla Killa's other skirt exposed...which is not good for a certain Mr. Southworth! And it definitely isn't, as the skirt is slashed and gashed open by the hit...but once more, Mornington Crescent can't get the upper ring to hit the side, as the skirt juts out far enough to stop it...and the lower ring has stopped. Opportunity is screaming in Richard's head and he takes it! The wedge finds the ring and sneaks under it, delivering Mornington Crescent to Taki III's CPZ!

    CRASH!

    Now Taki bears the mark...a very small one, mind you, of Mornington Crescent. Drilla Killa keeps it there, unrelenting, and unwilling to let it roam free, as Renegade slouches over. Taki's wedge raises, sending Mornington Crescent into the air, balanced upon both wedges. Drilla Killa backs off slightly, lest Mornington Crescent fall on top of him, as Renegade finally makes its way over and shunts Drilla Killa aside. Richard gets the message and heads for the pit release button as Taki shoves Mornington Crescent into the claws of Renegade. Steve furiously flips the controls as masterfully as he can but it's no use; the claws grasp hold of his robot, or rather, claw (the other one being unable to grab it), and drag it over to one of the Discs of Death! Drilla Killa nails the pit release button, signalling the lowering of the pit, and heads back over, as the axe of Renegade falls and WHACK! lands right on Mornington Crescent's back! Luckily, no wheels were hit, but that's loosened Renegade's grip on Mornington Crescent! Steve doesn't wear the relieved face for long though...Richard had not been idle, and Drilla Killa greets Mornington Crescent with a massive collision that sends the spinner flying back into an empty CPZ! Drilla Killa follows it and traps it there, and now figures it's safe to use the drill. Indeed it is, as neither ring can spin up! Ping Ping Ping goes the 'drilla' against the underbelly of Mornington Crescent, and Steve's a'sweatin'! Drilla Killa backs off now, recalling the drill, but before Mornington Crescent can even thinkof escaping, it's rammed again by the oldbie and...sent over top of it! Unfortunately, it's right at Drilla Killa's back and is pushed away towards the middle of the arena. The lower ring begins spinning again, but Drilla Killa is moving so fast Steve can't even try and turn! BZZT! ...or can he?! What a move! Mornington Crescent, side-on, helped steer Drilla Killa towards a arena killsaw, and left the robot stunned! Mornington Crescent makes the most of its chance!

    CRASH!!! CRASH!!!

    The previously (and slightly) damaged side takes two savage blows for both rings, and, awkwardly enough, sends Drilla Killa in a straight path away from Mornington Crescent, its side looking a bit more dented than before. It's along the wall, too, so it is unable to recover before Mornington Crescent gets back to speed, which it does! Richard decides the pit is his best option now, and goes around back of it, Steve in pursuit. Drilla Killa turns around, making sure the wedge is facing Mornington Crescent, before backing around the pit edge and dodging a charge from - GAH! Renegade has...flung itself down the pit! What a cheeky manoeuvre, planned or not, by Richard...Mornington Crescent swerves around the pit, Steve slightly nonplussed by the scene but generally ignoring it and keeping his eyes on the current scene. Then Drilla Killa charges! Steve, taken unawares by this sudden daring, is caught by the wedge and flung...into the CPZ! Drilla Killa moves in quickly, but Mornington Crescent is just able to sneak away, and then deals another blow to Drilla Killa!

    CRASH!!!

    Again that same side took a'hammerin', and now Drilla Killa goes a'dancin' across the arena floor! Thankfully it just manages to stay out of the pit, but can't stop Mornington Crescent's lower ring from getting back to speed, but charges in anyway. Steve is unable to get away in time, and is smashed against the CPZ. Taki is coming back over and Richard backs off to let the house robot get her dues...only to find Mornington Crescent sneak past both of them! In a rage Drilla Killa chases after the spinner, but it's spun up and out in the open, which is just what Steve needs, and this extra room for manoeuvring allows Mornington Crescent to evade the charge of Drilla Killa, slashing the remaining skirt and sending it flying off! The upper ring continues to spin...until it connects with Drilla Killa's right side!

    CRASH!!!

    And now that side's taken some damage! That, and it's sent Drilla Killa flying once more! Plus his front wedge isn't looking too hot from all those glancing blows on the front! Realizing this, Richard turns his machine around, and wearily comes at Mornington Crescent with the rear inverted wedge...Steve nimbly dodges the charge again and buries both spinning ring blades into the left side in quick succession!

    CRASH!!! CRASH!!!

    A lot of dentage, but no holeage or gashage, on Drilla Killa, meaning the Hardox is putting up reasonably well with the blows, but the force of the blows continues to send Drilla Killa hurtling across the arena once more! And I do believe we are running low on time, here...

    10...9...8...7...

    Drilla Killa tries to get its bearings back as Mornington Crescent spins up once more.

    6...5...4...

    As Drilla Killa turns its back on its opponent, Steve moves his spinner away again...

    3...2...1...

    ...only to find it was a feint, and that Drilla Killa is coming at it again -

    CRASH!!!

    CEASE!

    A last blow to the inverted wedge before the end! Well, since neither could finish each other off, this must go to a judges decision!

    Drilla Killa 7 - Mornington Crescent

    Strategy = 1/5 - 4/5
    Style = 3/10 - 7/10
    Control = 8/15 - 7/15
    Aggression = 13/20 - 7/20
    Damage = 1/25 - 24/25

    TOTAL = 26/75 - 49/75

    Maybe Drilla Killa 7 is better suited to the retirement home than drilling holes in robots.
    Mornington Crescent advances to the Heat Final!

    Next up
    Antweight Melee 1
    MicroForce 3.0 vs. Stewie vs. CombatANT vs. Anty B

    And later
    Heat A Final
    Disco 5 (1) vs. Mornington Crescent

  9. #89
    What can I say, Kody? Epic on a stick. Bravo, sir, and to Rich as well.

    HEAT A
    HEAT FINAL
    Disco 5 (1) VS MORNINGTON CRESCENT

    Same tactics as with Drilla Killa; outmanouever Disco and attack the sides, hopefully tearing off a skirt or two. Keep battering it till it stops moving. If I'm feeling particularly brave or desperate, I'll try attacking the flywheel too, preferably from an angle. In the battle of the spinners, horizontal > vertical. :wink:

  10. #90
    All right, we've found two Heat Finalists. But before we find the first Series Semi-Finalist, we've got our first otherweight fight. Behold...antweights!

    Antweight Melee 1
    MicroForce 3.0 vs. Stewie vs. CombatANT vs. Anty B

    From Shrewsbury in Shropshire...MicroForce 3.0!
    Andy Jackson's tiny terror has quite the force with a invertible box-wedge shape design, 1.5mm polycarb armour with a mm of titanium on the front wedge, and Servo power. Its rounded edges also help it keep on its wheels. It's nothing fancy, it just hits stuff. Pushy little git, innit?

    From Carterton in Oxfordshire...Stewie!
    This annoying baby has 3mm MDF armour and 1mm polycarb, and has a nasty Servo-powered flipper. Solarbotics gear motors and Lipo battery drive this tyrant, so be very careful, or you'll be lying flat on your back, and hearing those manacing words: VICTORY IS MINE!

    From Bucks...CombatANT!
    AW Champion of Robot Wars Series 4! It's got a vertical flywheel powered by an 80 watt gearbox motor, and 10mm motors and a Lipo power the drive. Its chassis is a mix of titanium, delrin, and spring steel, so you can be sure this little'un's got some Mortal Kombat to dish out, and take.

    From Hertfordshire...Anty B!
    It's Behemoth! Or is it? The miniature creation of Kane Aston's features a bucket scoop like its bigger self, electrically powered, and it has polycarb armour. Servo motors also run this dude's drive, but NiMH cells power the motors. Will Anty B live up to its 2002 reputation?

    Now, because the antweights are so small, the main arena is much too big: they'd be flying around, unable to hit each other for minutes at a time! So the solution we've come up with is to chuck the main arena for them, and use a 2m x 2m arena instead. It has a drop-off zone at one of the sides, and the walls be two layers of 15mm polycarbonate. So, let's get stuck in, shall we?

    Roboteers, stand by...

    House robots? What are you, mad? Of course not.

    3...
    2...
    1...
    ACTIVATE!

    Oh...dear. They're off already, and zipping around the little arena like anxious first-graders running after an ice-cream truck! Anty B seems to be the quickest, and tries to get under Stewie, but misses as the Team Hell robot scoots away to take on MicroForce. CombatANT, blade whizzing maniacally, heads for Anty B, only to find that the micro-Behemoth is now gone! Such disappearing acts, eh? MicroForce is in Stewie's face immediately, and we get our first meeting of the match, as the flipper and wedge meet. Unfortunately for Andy, it's the flipper that wins out this time and Stewie slides under MicroForce's figure, tossing it! WHOA! I had forgotten the physics of antweights, it seems... MicroForce just went flying into the air, almost hit the ceiling, and came back down wedge first! Hopefully it didn't get too harmed, but now here's Anty B with the attack on MicroForce, sliding under and slamming it into the wall! MicroForce needs to get away, and does so, bouncing out of CombatANT's reach, the spinner angered by the quick escape, and so attacks the rear of Anty B! It spins around quick enough, but not quick enough to dodge the disc! BANG! Yikes! Anty B and CombatANT have lift-off! Both robots land back on their wheels, but Anty B looks to be okay after that...only to see CombantANT's weapon spun right back up to speed again! But that's just fine by MicroForce, who catches the spinner off-guard and slams into the rear...sending it towards Anty B! Anty B tries to move away, but he doesn't need to: Stewie's barged in and, trying to attack CombatANT, hits Anty B instead! BANG! The flywheel hits Stewie's side armour and sends both Stewie and Anty B flying into the air, and also knocked CombantANT off of MicroForce! Andy tries to go after CombantANT again, but Team Termite have put a really accelerative weapon on their winning AW, and it shows in this battle as it's back up to speed again! MicroForce backs off, but as it does so, CombatANT advances. Anty B, having righted itself, flies in between the two randomly, Stewie following it and suddenly smacks into MicroForce's side. Dave fires the flipper and MicroForce gets another taste of air, indeed a huge taste as it's again nearly touched the ceiling and comes straight down onto its wheels. But Stewie isn't out of the woods, as Anty B and CombatANT close in on it...but CombatANT completely misses its attack! Anty B suddenly rushes forward and by fate, skill, or just god-given luck, he smacks into CombatANT's side, and pushes him towards the drop-off area! MicroForce seems what is happening and goes in to take advantage...as does Stewie! The RW4 AW champ struggles to no avail, and a second later, Anty B has dropped him down the hole! But before it can even celebrate its accomplishment, MicroForce rams into the mini-Behemoth, and sends it down as well! Just for sheer annoyance, Stewie pushes into MicroForce from behind and sends them both down as well.

    CEASE!

    CombatANT and Anty B are eliminated!
    MicroForce 3.0 and Stewie advance to the Semis!

    ----

    Next battle: Disco 5 (1) vs. Mornington Crescent

    And do forgive me if that fight wasn't up to scratch. 'Tis my first AW melee, and antweights are so weird to write fights about.
