    Let's have a look - 2 wheel drive, hydraulic sri-mech, steepish front.

    Pnuematic setup time, drive in and carry on flipping in constantly, don't allow it to self right of its own accord. Aim to flip it somewhere that'l be beneficial to me rather than just anywhere.

    Before we get started, I'd just like to inform everybody that I'll be handing out additional awards at the end of the series as per. One of these awards will be for Best Battle, which I'd like you good folks to vote on yourselves. Simply pick your favourite fight of the series thus far and the one with the most votes will mean a nice, shiny, non-existant trophy for its participants. So take a look back through the thread after you're done here and get nominating!

    FROM GEDDINGTON, IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, SEEDED NO.1 AND REIGNING CHAMPION, ACHILLES!

    Hail the conquering hero! Upgraded since its hypothetical domination of PTT5, Achilles is back again to defend its title and prove its victory was no accident. The champ remains a toughened box-wedge with skirts and a rounded rear, only it is now lower and more compact, with the wedge also rounded to help deflect spinners. The weaponry remains unchanged - a rear-hinged flipping arm with two different set-ups, hydraulic or pneumatic. The hydraulic mechanism includes a small crushing claw to grapple opponents and uses a Vivoil pump to tip up to 400kg with ease. The pneumatic mechanism includes a small T-shaped bar as an additional srimech and uses a CO2 canister running at 1000psi for high-powered hurling. Throw in two Eteks running at 48v, a skid-steer system for the four wheels and a mixture of titanium and polyurethane rubber armouring and it appears Alex has got the makings of greatness all over again. The lack of damaging weaponry has cost it dearly before, though, and high top speeds of 18mph could well be Achilles' Achilles' heel.

    IN PTT4: lost its Heat Final to the Crashing Bore in a ridiculously tight 28.5-28 decision.
    IN PTT5: series champion, defeating the likes of Voltronic, Spawn Again, Automatic Schmuck, MDU3 and Hell Machine.

    For this fight, Achilles will be using its pneumatic set-up for the flipper.

    FROM PONTEFRACT, IN YORKSHIRE, NIDHOGG EVO!
    (Represented by Joey McConnell)
    Named after the Nordic dragon who eats the roots of the World Tree, Nidhogg is eager to burninate anyone who dares to cross its path and live up to its success in Robot SMASH!! and last year's Vapourbot Awards. This latest incarnation is a low-slung wedge with sloping sides, a rollover top and glowing LED eyes - rather like Lightning and M2's unholy lovechild. The main weapons are a pair of front spikes, a hydraulic lifting plate on the wedge, able to lift about a tonne with relative ease, and a spiny 3000psi crushing arm with fifteen tonnes of force at the very tip. Razer, eat your motors out! Nidhogg is a surprisingly nimble beast with its two Vulkalon-tyred wheels mounted in the middle for great manoueverability, while its 3.2mm Hardox shell (with a dash of polycarbonate and titanium thrown in for good measure) mean that slaying this dragon will take a lot of work. However, its roly-poly srimech could prove sluggish in practice and the 15-20mph top speeds, combined with its high manoueverability, could result in control issues. Will Nidhogg fly high or crash and burn?

    ACTIVATE!

    And our Grand Final Heat is officially underway as Achilles and Nidhogg Evo spring to life! Joey is clearly angling for a quick assault on the veteran's side, but Alex's machine isn't the champ for nothing! As Nidhogg swoops in, Achilles swings around, blocking its attack and scraping the huge flipping arm underneath the 10mm ground clearance! In a flash Nidhogg is thrown onto its back - and thankfully rolls right back onto its wheels! Joey barely gets to let out a sigh of relief however when Achilles darts back underneath his machine and begins pushing it across the arena! Nidhogg quickly manouevers off of the flipper plate, narrowly avoiding a second trip to Topsy-Turvy Town! Alex resets the flipper and keeps Achilles close on Nidhogg's scaly tail. For now the two Finalists are playing cautiously, carefully sizing each other up, planning their next attacks. You could cut the tension with a daffodil in this warzone tonight, let me tell you. At last Achilles decides to kick things into high gear with an attack on Nidhogg's side! Joey has started to back away when the flipper throws his creation over a second time! Nidhogg tumbles onto its back, somersaulting impressively in the process, but has barely rolled upright again when Achilles barges back into it! Another flip sends Nidhogg tumbling across the arena, Achilles hot on its heels! The roly-poly design works its magic once more, but the dragon is now worringly close to the northern arena wall, and here comes Achilles and try and chuck it over! Nidhogg does its best to fend off the champion, but Achilles has it tightly cornered up against the barrier! Both robots struggle hard, each trying to get undernearth the other! Alex thinks he spies an opening and quickly fires his flipper, but has missed Nidhogg by the narrowest of margins! Joey immediately takes advantage and scrapes his front prongs under Achilles' skirting! Up goes the lifter - and down goes the crusher!
    The tables appear to have turned as Nidhogg's mighty claw clamps down on Achilles' armour, but the great Greek warrior is far from finished yet! Alex is hurridly twiddling his control sticks, attempting to shake himself free of Nidhogg's grip! At the least he's certainly slowing the dragon down, as Joey gradually makes his way towards the Void Activation Button! Suddenly both bots jerk as Achilles fires its flipper, the large arm free of the claw's clutches! Nidhogg fights to maintain control but finds its grip weakened as it pushes Achilles into the Button! The all-too familiar sires blares over the battlefield as Achilles lurches off of Nidhogg's wedge and finally escapes the crushing arm! Nidhogg twirls around to persue, but Achilles is two steps ahead of it! The reigning champion crashes head-on into the newcomer and pushes the deadly dragon back into the Button, riding back up the wedge in the process! Achilles quickly backs off as Joey reactivates the claw and charges Nidhogg again, this time scraping under the right-hand side! The flipper tosses Nidhogg over, very nearly sending it straight over the fence! Joey can't help but fret as Achilles attacks again and again! There's barely enough room in that CPZ right now to swing a cat, let alone roll yourself upright in good time! It look as though Nidhogg is on the ropes as Achilles barges the bot for the umpteenth time! The flipper fires once again, sending Nidhogg up, over...and on top of the Button! Don't think you can hide up there, Mr McConnell! The laws of physics send Nidhogg rolling back into the arena - and straight onto Achilles' flipper! With one last burst of CO2 the Nordic dragon soars over the arena wall and out of the Grand Final! Achilles reverses back to the arena centre and spins gleefully to the crowd's delight! The champ has already survived longer than any previous PTT winner - can it go all the way again?

    CEASE!

    Nidhogg Evo has crashed and burned - but don't take flight just yet, Joey! We'll need your firey friend for the Play-Off later. :wink:

    Eye of the Robot 4 grand champion, winner of the Best Axe trophy at last year's Vapourbot Awards - this is an intriguing newcomer and no mistake. Intriguous is a crafty customer with a long, low profile, a green and black motif, and a pneumatic axe ready to knock you six ways from Sunday! Using a system similar to Battlebots superheavyweight The Judge, the axe operates via a huge 225mm stroke/200mm bore ram and two custom-built CO2 tanks weighing 2.5kg. This provides power for 15 full-pressure shots, able to leave a dent in even the thickest armour! Intriguous is a tough cookie itself with 4mm Hardox monocoque armour and skirts and scoops for added protection. It's a capable rammer to boot with two LEM-130 Lynch motors providing high acceleration and top speeds of 12mph. It's invertible too, but this leaves its four wheels open to fellow axes and it'll be intriguing to see how Kody will cope once the axe runs out of juice...

    FROM GAINSBOROUGH, THE CRASHING BORE 2!

    Back for a fourth PTT after a recent upgrade, the Crashing Bore 2 is showing no signs of slowing down in spite of its age. The oldest competing vapourbot has changed little in terms of design over the years and this latest incarnation stays true to Frank's winning formula. A skirted box with dusty red paint, the Bore is armed with three distinctive weapons; a front lifting wedge powered by a linear actuator, a drill hidden within said wedge and, of course, the jagged, Mousetrap-style guillotine, powered by two LEM-130s. The idea of this weapons synergy is to 'snap and trap'. A robot drives onto the wedge, the trap grapples them, the wedge rises and the drill pokes out to skewer their underbelly. Poetry in motion. The former NSBFL champ is also a competant rammer, with a mixture of Hardox and titanium armour and plenty of push from the two LEMs. Its manoueverability could be improved, however, and if a flipper gets past the skirts to the 20mm ground clearance, the Crashing Bore could go crashing out again.
    IN PTT3: (as The Crashing Bore): snapped up a place in the Semi-Finals, beating former champ Beta, but lost out to the Business Ends in the second round
    IN PTT4: (as The Crashing Bore): beat Achilles to make the Semis again, this time flung out the ring by SpinVerter 3 in the first round
    IN PTT5: (as The Crashing Bore): rammed, slammed and pitted by Manic Monsoon in its Heat Final

    ACTIVATE!

    Intriguous is off to a flying start, thanks to its excellent acceleration! The Crashing Bore 2 charges the newcomer head-on, but Kody swerves round to avoid the hefty front wedge! Intriguous barges into the Bore's side and drives under the titanium skirting before Frank can retaliate! It's full steam ahead for Kody as Intriguous effortlessly pushes the Bore down the arena and into the CPZ where the Void lies dormant! Lucky for you he hasn't opened yet, Frank m'lad! Intriguous slams the Bore into the corner and lands a powerful blow with the axe, before proceding to rough up the PTT veteran like the biggest bully in the playground! The Crashing Bore is no gangly third-year geek however and quickly turns itself around, sending the charging Intriguous up onto its wedge! The 'trap snaps in the blink of an eye, snaring the Canadian competitor as it tries to get away! Now it's the Bore's turn to do the pushing as the PTT veteran shoves Intriguous out of the CPZ and back into the arena! Frank has just activated the front lifting wedge when Intriguous begins to fight back with a flick of its axe! Kody struggles with the controls, causing his machine to dart off of the wedge and out of the Bore's grip! Intriguous barges the Bore as payback before outright ignoring its opponent and running away to the top end of the arena, clearly aiming for the Void Button! The Bore tries to keep up but Intriguous is simply too nimble for the old hand! Kody reaches the Button in double-quick time and crashes into it like an arrow on target! The air-raid siren roars into life as the Bore gallops onto the scene, bumping Intriguous as it reverses out of the corner! Intriguous spins and tries to get around the Bore's side! Frank attempts to block, narrowly missing its opponent with a swing of the guillotine, but the quicker Intriguous is leading it on a merry dance! Kody quickly puts an end to the festivities by scraping under the Bore's skirted side and pushing it across to the opposite end of the warzone, where Fawkes sits on edge in his CPZ! The House Robot spreads his wings wide as Intriguous thrusts the Bore into his loving embrace! The hydraulic crushing wings immediately get to work, grabbing the Bore's behind and squeezing the Hardox monocoque shell with all its might! To make matters worse, here comes the poison-tipped beak to make things worse! Frank fires the guillotine in frustration, just as Fawkes' beak attempts to pierce through the Bore's head! Kody decides he wants to join in the fun too and gives the Bore a couple of blows with his axe! Hardox is strong stuff however and Fawkes appears to be having a hard time penetrating the Bore's shell! The House Robot slackens its grip to attack another spot, allowing Frank to bolt out of the mighty phoenix's corner and straight down the arena, Intriguous hot on its heels!
    Our two competitors meet up again in the centre of the ring! The Bore is sporting some nasty dings after its hug from Fawkes, but is still very much in the game as it swings round for an attack, but Intriguous is still too light on its wheels! Frank snaps the 'trap, landing only a glancing blow on Intriguous as they skitter back and forth! The dancing continues for a few moments until Kody manages to bop the Bore's head with his axe! Frank fires the guillotine - and would you believe it? Both weapons have become locked together! The dance-off has turned into a tug-of-war as Intriguous and the Bore try to pull themselves apart! It's a close contest to be sure, but it appears that the Bore is gaining the upper hand, gradually pushing Intriguous back as it struggles to break free! The Grim Beeper swoops onto the scene and decides to lend a bony helping hand! The robotic reaper rams the Finalists, finally separating them with his mighty plough - knife fights beat arm-wrestling any day, in his opinion! Kody immediately celebrates his freedom by charging the Bore, but Frank is ready for him this time! As Intriguous hits the front wedge and dishes out another whack o' the hammer, the Bore drives under the skirted box and fires the guillotine to pin it down! Intriguous struggles to break free, but the drill is already doing its thing as the wedge lifts the newcomer off the ground! Frank decides to take full advantage of Intriguous' helplessness and pushes its opponent towards the south-western corner, where the Taxman is ready and waiting with his flywheel up to speed! The Bore retracts the guillotine at the edge of the CPZ, dumping Intriguous straight into the House Robot's blades...
    CRRRASH!
    Intriguous bounces out of the corner, nearly bouncing onto its back in the process! Kody quickly makes sure everything's in working order - and it appears they are, although there's now a rather large slice in the paintwork on its right-hand side! The Bore tries to barge it back into the Taxman, but Kody's creation hasn't lost any of its speed it seems! Intriguous deftly dances around the Bore and scrapes under the skirting once again! A quick burst of speed sends Intriguous zipping across the arena, and the Bore straight towards Killeidascope Corner...
    CRRRASH!
    Now it's the Bore's turn to feel the pain as the great psychadelic drum sends it flying across the warzone in a shower of sparks! The PTT veteran has survived the impact with only dents and dings, but that rusty red paintwork is starting to look an awful mess - and it's only going to get worse from the looks of it, as Intriguous catches up and plants another venomous kiss with its awesome axe! Frank snaps the 'trap in retaliation but misses Intriguous altogether! The newcomer quickly darts to the Bore's side and tries to get back underneath! The Bore blocks Kody off, however, and manages another glancing blow with the guillotine! Intriguous simply shrugs the attack off and scuttles its way into the Bore's side once again! A burst of speed and a blow of the axe sees the Bore slammed into the western wall with one more dent to concern itself with!

    Frank desperately tries to fight back, but Intriguous is pounding the PTT veteran against the barrier!

    A well-timed turn lets the Bore scoop up a charging Intriguous! The Bore pushes back and snaps the 'trap, but the newcomer retreats before it can be grappled firmly!
    3...2...1...

    CEASE!

    And so our second eliminator ends with our two competitors back in the centre of the arena. Since both are still mobile, the Judge will have to decide who meets Achilles in the series final. Has Intriguous captured his interest or has the Crashing Bore snapped up victory again? Let's go to the scores:

    INTRIGUOUS
    DAMAGE = (4/5) * 3 = 12 (Plenty of axe work, with bonus points for making use of Fawkes and Killeidascope Corner.)
    AGGRESSION = (4/5) * 2.5 = 10 (Relentless throughout.)
    STRATEGY = (4/5) * 2 = 8 (Scoop, grapple, feed to House Bots, pit. Three out of four ain't bad.)
    CONTROL = (4/5) * 1.5 = 6 (Rarely put a wheel out of line.)
    STYLE = (3/5) * 1 = 4 (The spins and twirls were very nice. The bumping and barging, less so.)
    TOTAL = 40 / 50

    THE CRASHING BORE 2
    DAMAGE = (3/5) * 3 = 9 (Despite some misaimed attacks, the 'trap gave Intriguous a few good scars. Also gets points for making use of the Taxman.)
    AGGRESSION = (3/5) * 2.5 = 7.5 (Always in the thick of it, but not quite fast enough to dish out proper punishment.)
    STRATEGY = (3/5) * 2 = 6 (Scoop, grapple, feed to House Bots, pit. Again. Narrowly misses equal points for using one less hazard.)
    CONTROL = (3/5) * 1.5 = 4.5 (Steady throughout, but loses points for its misfires with the 'trap.)
    STYLE = (3/5) * 1 = 3 (Not the most graceful performance, but looked impressive when the weapons combo worked.)
    TOTAL = 30 / 50

    THE JUDGE'S VERDICT: Intriguous wins by 40-30.

    Despite a valiant effort, the Crashing Bore 2 has officially been wiped out! Keep your surfboard handy, though, Frank, as the Third Place Play-Off is sailing into view! :wink:

    Good ol' battle, Frank-O, and lovely writing Steve. Seems PTT action is at an all-time high. I guess the only thing wrong with that was my prediction. Aw well, ya did yer best Joey.

    Featherweight Final
    Bulldozer VS Heretic VS M.B.X. VS Skink


    Grr...Skink defeated Heretic in CC2...but it's not my main worry. The main worry...is M.B.X. I don't like it, only because I'm facing it. So, the plan here will be to aggressively attack Skink and Bulldozer, and try to get in a cheap shot on MBX if it's stopped. If nobody but me and M.B.X. are left, then I'm going to try and use the rear to push the dead others (if they're the arena, that is. If not, just go for broke and keep hitting M.B.X. with the blade) into M.B.X. and hopefully stop his rotation long enough for me to get in a shot with the blade.

    Good luck...to me and the others. Aaron doesn't need bloody luck on his side. :P

    After much procrastination and a brief virus scare on the laptop, it's time to crown a Featherweight champion! Let's-a go!

    FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

    BULLDOZER Vs HERETIC Vs M.B.X. Vs SKINK

    FROM ONEHOUSE, IN SUFFOLK, BULLDOZER!
    (Represented by Christopher Mason)
    A basic invertible box with four wheels, a front scoop and a wagging tail. Don't ask. It's nippy at 15mph and reasonably tough with 4mm aluminium armour, but the balsawood strips and paper bag don't scream confidence.

    A T-shaped thwackbot with a pickaxe head and a spinning blade mounted on the underbelly which can reach speeds of 2500rpm. Fast and manoueverable, but not the best pusher.

    A teeny-weeny translational spinner. It's brick-shaped, invertible and has only one wheel. Top spinning speeds of 1500rpm make it very deadly, but that lone wheel could fall victim to axes and crushers.

    A bright yellow box-wedge with a wide, rear-hinged flipper. The full-pressure arm packs a punch while the bot itself travels at a comfortable 8mph. I do wonder about that plastic armour, though.

    ACTIVATE!

    And already our two spinners are getting up to speed! Bulldozer decides to bypass them altogether and races to release the Void, leaving Skink between a rock and a hard place! As Heretic and M.B.X. make their moves, Mike and Paul quickly decide that Heretic is the lesser of two evils and charges straight for the axlebot! Kody's creation easily dodges the attack, twirling around and whacking Skink with both its axe head and spinning blade! Skink is blown away by the attack, one of its skirts all but sliced to ribbons! Mike quickly regains control and rams into Heretic as the blade gets back up to speed! Skink drives under the axlebot and pushes it towards the western wall! Paul fires the flipper, sending Heretic tumbling into the fence! Sorry, lads, but I doubt you'll be performing any railing kills at that size! Skink continues pounding Heretic into the wall when Bulldozer and M.B.X. come over to join the fun! Bulldozer breaks up the brawl, allowing Heretic to go free - and M.B.X. to tuck into its sacrificial armour!
    CRRRASH!
    Sparks and chips of balsawood scatter over the warzone floor! Aaron is clearly hungry for more as he sends M.B.X. crashing into Bulldozer's side a second time!
    CRRRASH!
    The rammer takes on more damage, but is surprisingly unfazed by the chunks being torn out of it! Bulldozer brings Heretic's blade to a halt with its front scoop and pushes the little axlebot down the arena, into the golden claws of our beloved Dulcy! Heretic struggles wildly and manages to run away to safety, just as the House Robot lowers her head and lets loose a great belch of flame - all over Bulldozer! Even Chris can't help laughing as his robot zips across the arena with its head on fire! Heretic speeds off after the 'Dozer to exact some revenge, while M.B.X. and Skink are playing a very tentative game of 'cat and mouse'! Skink turns slowly towards the spinner, Mike and Paul perhaps hoping to knock M.B.X. off-balance with the flipping arm...
    CRRRASH!
    Well, whatever they were hoping for, I don't think it worked! Skink is now spinning even faster than M.B.X., flipper raised on high like an eager schoolboy's arm! Paul quickly retracts the weapon, but oh dear, here comes M.B.X. again!
    CRRRASH!
    While Skink makes a hasty retreat to rethink its plans (and nurse its fresh wounds), Bulldozer and Heretic duke it out on the other side of the arena! Each robot is trying to outmanouever the other, with Bulldozer's paper top still blazing away! Is it my imagination or is it starting to seem a little more sluggish than before? At any rate Heretic is still having a hard time introducing its spinning blade to Bulldozer's wheels! Whichever way it turns, the speedy little rammer keeps managing to block it off, until Kody gets a fortunate blow on one of the front wheels! Heretic is flung away in the direction of the Void and is just getting the spinny blade back up to speed when Bulldozer plows underneath with its great scoop! Kody frantically attempts an escape, but one last burst of speed from Chris' creation sends Heretic tumbling into the Void and out of the Featherweight Final!
    Three now remains as Bulldozer slowly makes its way back over to M.B.X. and Skink! Its head is on fire, it's getting slower by the minute and it's now developed a slight limp in its front right wheel! What else could possibly go wrong? How about another blow from M.B.X?
    CRRRASH!
    Great flaming chunks of wood and paper are torn out of Bulldozer's sacrificial skin! Good gravy, it's like a firestorm out there! Chris' sacrifice seems to have paid off, however, as M.B.X. has temporarily stopped spinning! Bulldozer lunges forwards and nudges the Australian entry, before Skink rockets in and flips the rectangular spinner onto its back! Aaron isn't worried about flippers - M.B.X. is invertible after all - but he is worried about not being able to spin up again! After another hard slap from Skink, M.B.X. swerves around an approaching Bulldozer and begins its spinny thing once again! Chris tries to stop the Aussie bot with another charge...
    CRRRASH!
    ...But gets a great big slash in his scoop for his troubles! By this point poor Bulldozer appears to be on its last legs - the paper bag has melted away to almost nothing and there seems to be little life left in those wheels! Aaron can see this and heads straight for Bulldozer's sides once again!
    CRRRASH!
    M.B.X. bounces away from the rammer...
    CRRRASH!
    ...And into Skink's side as well! Who knew Aaron was such a pinball wizard? It looks like it's game over for Bulldozer anyway! The Grim Beeper is examining the smoldering rammer, but the only movement he can see is that of the flames dancing over the bodywork! It's third place to Chris then as the Beeper raises his scythe on high...
    1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10!
    CRRRASH!
    Bulldozer is out and Skink may not be far behind it! M.B.X. has added a fresh set of scars and slices into Skink's plastic armour, leaving the little yellow flipper rather dazed and confused! Mike and Paul try desperately to get away for a decent charge, but cannot avoid another attack from the Aussie brick!
    CRRRASH!
    The sparks fly as Skink is sent spinning! Mike attempts to retaliate...and Skink keeps on spinning! That last blow must've knackered the drive something fierce, because all Skink can do now is trundle round and round in a circle! Aaron finally decides it's time to back off, and allows the Grim Beeper to come forward and deliver the last rites...

    The House Robots waste no time in cleaning up as M.B.X. twirls in victory! Scarlet attempts to boil Skink's bottom with his Exterminator arm, while Dulcy sinks her claws into the mobile bonfire that is Bulldozer! It's been a while since we've seen destruction on this sort of scale, so both many thanks and many apologies to Chris for what we're about to do! Got it on the Launchpad, Dulce? OK, everyone, count with me!

    Heretic has met an unorthadox end, Bulldozer has been flattened and Skink, well, stinks!

    TACTICS:
    Open the pit first of all.
    Avoid the front - should in theory be easy with the wheels towards the front enabling me to more precisely point the front end of the robot than with normal machines. Of what actual use that will be is to be seen :P
    Get underneath the skirts with the forks, get beneath the body with the lifter, lift the body, use the crusher to pin it so it can't drive off, take CB over to the pit and drop it in - not on the edge or anything, but in - if necessary drive straight down the pit with it held in front so as not to take any chances.
