    Haldux 2.0 vs Leprosy Infection

    In the Red Square we have Haldux 2.0, a full pressure front hinged flipper with two LEMCO-130 drive motors powering the wheels, giving power equal to that of Storm II. The robot is an odd shape, like M2 with a flat top, and it has lots of flips so there€™s no way it€™ll run out in a normal match. However, the 20mm HDPE armour is weak.

    In the Blue Square we have Leprosy Infection, a simple box with a vertical drum at the front that spins upwards to damage and flip opponents. There are magmotors in the drive and it can run inverted, plus it has mini-skirts on the side to protect the side ground clearance and the wheels from low weapons. However, the wheels are exposed to overhead attacks.

    Both robots move off out of their starting squares quickly as this match gets underway, with Haldux 2.0 immediately going on the attack of Leprosy Infection, driving straight underneath the drum at the front and firing the flipper to send the Little Drummer Boy-esque machine up and over onto its back, driving in underneath the rear of Chris€™ robot to speedily follow up the attack by flipping Leprosy Infection onto the arena floor spinner and the low box is thrown across the arena and hits the spike strip with a nasty CLANG! Leprosy does seem to be OK though and finally gets that drum up to top speed now, driving back in on the attack and hitting the HDPE armour of Haldux 2.0, ripping out a huge chunk of the 2cm thick armourment and driving around to the side to attack again, chewing away at the side armour this time and nibbling through into the insides, leaving a huge amount of Haldux 2.0€™s internals exposed! Chris has quickly turned the tables now and Ben tries to come back on the attack, struggling to fit the flipper back underneath, but the shape isn€™t ideal for this style of flipper and Leprosy is just knocked backwards by the full pressure weapon, easily then ramming forward and knocking chunks out of the flipper itself! HDPE armour this thin is pretty flimsy and Leprosy Infection keeps up the work, although most of its minor nibbles don€™t expose any workings as they only make it through a few millimetres of armour when there is more to get through. Haldux is feeling the pain though and tries to use those LEM-170s in the drive to ram Leprosy Infection across the arena, which it does and Ben fires the flipper to slam Leprosy hard against the arena wall, but Chris is lucky this time and the drum causes Leprosy Infection to fall back onto its four wheel drive, using which it escapes and spins up the drum again before coming back in on the attack and striking the side of Haldux 2.0, tearing another piece of armour out of the side armour and flipping Haldux 2.0 onto its back! Ben self-rights, but Leprosy Infection drives in again and slams Ben€™s machine with the4 drum, flipping Haldux again and suddenly the flipping great machine is venting gas all over the arena! The flipper feebly opens one last time, but doesn€™t right the robot as it used up what was little left of the carbon dioxide gas which has been escaping into the arena since that hit from Leprosy Infection ruptured the co2 supply and flipped Haldux 2.0 onto its back in one easy move, and without the flipper Haldux can€™t self-right and is down and out.

    Haldux 2.0 has met its end and Chris looks on happily as CEASE is called.

    Hmmm...a good draw for once

    Leprosy Infection had problems getting through Haldux HDPE, and I have some Ti and Hardox underneath mine so the worst it can do is make a hole through the HDPE, which will then take the energy out of the hit so itll do little more than tap on the metal armour beneath. From this I draw the conclusion that unless I have the skirts fitted the weapon poses little threat to me, unless we go to the judges and they mark on damage.

    I shall remove the skirts as they are more likely to get ripped off and my shape will make it difficult for LEprosy to get a hold of me anyway, and use my ground scraping front nose to get in underneath and flip it around, occasionally going thwackbot to try and mangle the side flaps and wheels a bit. Repeat this as necessary until it ends up the other side of the fence, immobilised, or down the pit.

    In the other fight, I think Spin Dash might edge it, cant see it being damaged much by SHA.

    Gabriel III gets off the mark quickly as this fight gets underway, with Leprosy Infection also driving in on the attack as the spinning drum weapon designed to horrifically flake the armour of other robots rotates upwards, slowly at first but quickly gathering speed before it emits a petrifying whir as Gabriel III approaches the low-box machine, driving in underneath the front drum of Leprosy Infection, flipping it onto its back with a flick of the front hinged flipper and then driving in underneath the rear of the up-turned machine, powering forward and using those lynch motors in the drive to knock Leprosy Infection against the spike strip! Chris has bent one of the spikes with the drum, and now goes on the attack of Gabriel III, driving up against the side of the elongated pyramid shaped machine and chewing away at the side armour, pulling sections of the HDPE and titanium away, but certainly not damaging the thick hardox that protects the key areas and failing to even expose the slightest section of innards in any other part of the machine. Gabriel twists and turns Leprosy onto the floor spinner now, letting Chris go flying away across the arena to be slammed into the spike strip with a CRASH! Leprosy Infection has taken some hard knocks already in this first semi-final, and Gabriel III is most certainly on top at this point. Joey flaunts his authority by jauntily sneaking up behind Leprosy Infection again and swinging its front point around on the spot, slamming the side spike into the side of Leprosy Infection, knocking the spinning drum weapon away from Gabriel and therefore rescuing the armour of Gabriel from any further punishment, as we see now as Leprosy Infection was knocked away the drum seems to have stopped spinning! We don€™t know why yet, but the judges have confirmed now that that powerful hit from Gabriel III knocked a connection inside Leprosy Infection from the weapon motors to the drum and Leprosy Infection is dazed and weaponless now! With no weapon Chris is in real trouble now, while Joey is on top of the world and as he drives in underneath Leprosy Infection again, getting the vile green Tetanus Booster-alike robot stuck on the barbs of the flipper, now powering towards the corner and flipping Leprosy Infection onto the killsaws! And with a loud buzz Leprosy is flipped over in a shower of sparks, landing on its backside. But Chris€™ box-shaped machine has the ability to run inverted and does so now, driving around Gabriel and reversing at the rear to try and push the golden angel across the arena but failing as Joey€™s more powerful LEMCO-130 lynch motors overpower Leprosy Infection and push it across the arena, pinning Chris€™ disgustingly-coloured robot against the spike strip for a few moments before the arena pits open! Leprosy Infection senses a chance to try and deliver Gabriel to one of these pits, but it€™s no good and Joey gets underneath Leprosy Infection again, ramming it across the arena and flipping it against the arena wall hard, before reversing away and letting it fall back to the ground, allowing it to rest for a few seconds before charging in again and slamming it against the barrier, firing the flipper to let Leprosy Infection rebound off the barrier and bounce along the ground behind Gabriel III. Joey reverses after Chris and pushes him onto the killsaws again, and Leprosy Infection is stacked on the wall in the dying seconds of the battle, but really there are less than ten seconds left and so Leprosy Infection can€™t be counted out, instead we€™ll be going to the judges!

    CEASE!

    The judges will make a decision based on dominance, control, damage and aggression, awarding them marks out of 5 for each and multiplying them in order of importance.
    Damage:
    Gabriel III disabled Leprosy Infection€™s spinning drum, but Chris did do some minor damage to the outer armouring of Gabriel III.
    Gabriel III- 4pts x 1= 4
    Leprosy Infection- 2pts x 1= 2
    Aggression:
    Leprosy Infection had a good start, but Gabriel III did most of the work after that initial onslaught.
    Gabriel III- 4pts x 0.75= 3
    Leprosy Infection- 3pts x 0.75= 2.25
    Dominance:
    Gabriel III was in almost total control from the point Leprosy Infection lost its drum.
    Gabriel III- 5pts x 0.5= 2.5
    Leprosy Infection- 1pt x 0.5= 0.5
    Control:
    Gabriel III displayed good driving skills to shove Leprosy around the arena, Chris hit a lot of the hazards courtesy of Gabriel, but may have been able to steer clear of them a bit more often.
    Gabriel III- 4pts x 0.25= 1
    Leprosy Infection- 1 x 0.25= 0.25
    Overall:
    A good display from both machines, but Gabriel III scored the decisive hit when it disabled Leprosy Infection€™s spinning drum.

    Fantastic - Gabriel seems to be doing well all of a sudden, picked up a few ideas for a redesign to hopefully improve on that for next year...w00t for winning and getting to the final, and as ever great quality fight from Lewis, not just because I won

    Sheer Heart Attack 2 vs Spin Dash Unleashed

    Spin Dash Unleashed and its tracked 110kg opponent move off out of the starting squares fairly quickly as this match gets underway, with Sheer Heart Attack 2 spinning up the drum to top speed courtesy of those magmotors powering it and the lynch motors in the drives of both machines power up and cause the two combatants to race towards each other. Both weapons are spun up as the two meet head on, but Sheer Heart Attack 2 gains advantage with the drum and flips Spin Dash up into the air, it teeters for a moment on its rear side before falling onto its back, inverted. This means that sadly for Steven the saw is virtually useless, and Martijn has gained the upper hand very early on here and now turning around to use the rear wedges, getting under the front of Spin Dash Unleashed, who€™s skirts now hang limply at the sides and rear and Martijn pushes the blue Scottish machine across the arena and into the spike strip, pinning him there for a few moments before driving forwards and freeing him. Spin Dash drives around and attacks Sheer Heart Attack 2€™s side, pushing the heavier robot onto the arena spinner, but it has little effect and Sheer Heart Attack 2 is thrown just a short way across the arena as opposed to some other robots earlier in the tournament that have been launched into orbit by the powerful disc. Sheer Heart Attack 2 goes quickly back on the attack now though and hits the front of Spin Dash with the drum, slightly dislodging the front panel! Steven reverses away, but Martijn follows up the attack and rams in again, hitting the front of Spin Dash Unleashed for a second time and this time the whole front 4mm hardox panel is torn off, flying high into the air and bouncing along the arena floor before it comes to rest on the killsaws. It is thrown into the air in a cascade of sparks, landing back on the arena floor in a crumpled pile of debris. Spin Dash is really feeling the pain now as Martijn follows up attack after attack with the powerful spinning drum, ripping out cables and what-knot from the inside of Spin Dash as well as flipping it over and over, now flipping onto its normal position and tearing off a side skirt! Spin Dash€™s saw-blade has topped completely, as it seems the connection from the magmotor that powers to the weapon itself has been severed by one of Sheer Heart Attack 2€™s attacks and now Steven is left weaponless, and now we see that Spin Dash can only move in circles, clearly indicating that Sheer Heart Attack 2 has also ripped out a connection from the lynch motor to the batteries, and with 50% of the drive eliminated Steven€™s Scottish battering ram is down and out!

    The referees whistle sounds to signal that Spin Dash Unleashed is immobilised, and Sheer Heart Attack 2 moves onto the final!

    Predictions...wrong. :P

    PLAYOFF:

    Leprosy Infection has more to get a hold of than SHA did, so Spin Dash might find it easier to cope with...gonna be close though, in fact with the skirts Spin Dash might be in danger of riding up the sides. Im not going to predict as it could be very interesting

    FINAL:

    Oh...ten thousand thundering typhoons. :P I dont think theres much I can do against SHA other than flip it a lot and hope the armour and chassis construction holds out, which is what I will be doing :P

    LEave the skirts off, and try and ram it with the back as well. That might stop the drum and give me more of a chance.
