    Hello and welcome to an exciting new spin-off of the series of major tournaments known as Robot SMASH!! , Classic SMASH!! !

    Today we have 4 new robots competing:

    From Middleton-Cheney, Hypno-Disc!
    This four wheel drive box-shaped machine from series 4 of Robot Wars has a horizontal spinning disc at the front and a side-hinged self-righting arm behind said disc. There also spikes on the top, but they are mostly for show. This version of the machine reached the series 4 Grand Final, losing out to Pussycat in the first Grand Final eliminator. However powerful it was 8 years ago though the disc€™s power and the armour€™s reliability are both seriously dated by today€™s standards.

    From Richmond, Oxen!
    The first vapour of the competition is a triangular machine powered by wheelchair motors. This curiously shaped machine has a static spike at the rear and is armoured in 5mm titanium, and although that could be exploited by some spinners flippers won€™t do anything to it as it can run inverted.

    From East Tilbury, Essex, Spawn Again!
    Semi-Finalist of RW5, this robot is the most modern realie in the competition, as it weighed just 79kg at RW5, 21kg under the maximum weight. It has a large co2 powered flipper that can throw opponents high into the air, but it can be pushed around too easily.

    From Suffolk , Bad Temper Jr!
    Surprisingly this robot has competed in Robot SMASH!! before, fighting and losing to Disco 5 in the eliminator of the Mini-Tournament. It is a Tornado shaped machine with a large Overkill-style blade on top that can come down with some force.

    But the Gauntlet awaits them, can they make it through?

    Hypno-Disc is first up.

    Roboteers, standby!

    Booth 1: Kody Kunz/Dave Rose/Derek Rose/Ken Rose

    SMASH!!

    The four wheel drive machine gets off to a quick start and spins up the disc as it approaches the first wall that is it€™s obstacle, bringing the disc around to bear on the middle section of the wall and striking lucky, knocking it down and progressing through, where it tries two walls before finding the correct way through and progressing onto the third fence, where the knock-down wall is quickly found, as is the case on the last two walls. After that though Kody finds himself facing the large square that is belching fire to hide the killsaws in the floor! Hypno-Disc guns the four wheel drive across the square, but is caught by a saw and flipped! BZZT! The srimech kicks into play, but in this era it was a painfully slow 5 seconds and we see now that some of the plastic on Hypno-Disc has melted!

    CEASE!

    Hypno-Disc: 12.5 metres

    Next up is Oxen

    SMASH!!

    The pizza shaped machine gets going straight away, but the wheelchair motors don€™t provide a lot of power and Jack unfortunately has to test a few walls on the first row to progress, although on this second row he€™s quick and goes on again. However the third wall is where it all goes wrong prematurely for Oxen as it bounces slightly on a bump in the floor and mounts the fallen wall, beaching itself!

    CEASE!

    Oxen: 6.2 metres

    Now is Spawn Again

    SMASH!!

    The long wedge that was seeded #13 in RW5 gets off to a speedy start, delivering a good shove into the central wall, although that isn€™t the knock-down wall and Samuel spins around, knocking the next-door neighbour down! And now the wedge hurries through the gap it just made and runs along into the second wall, getting a lucky hit and powering through both second and third rows by staying in the same line! The fourth however is a bit more tricky and Spawn has some tough manoeuvring to do to get past quickly, but Samuel at the controls manages it and Spawn Again triumphs as it smashes through the last two walls and out onto the square of death! But Samuel confidently drives across the square and reaches the other end just as time runs out!

    CEASE!
    Spawn Again: 14.5 metres

    And right now we have Bad Temper Jr

    SMASH!!

    The vapourbot gets off to a quick start, driving up to the first row of walls and testing them out with the huge overhead blade, giving one a good whack and letting it fall to the ground, allowing Chris to shoot through quickly and run into the next row, striking lucky again and getting the knock down wall in very quick time before progressing to the third row, however this time it takes a little longer, but still Bad Temper Jr is persistent and moves on again, knocking through the fourth and fifth rows to reach the square, where it immediately gets tossed over by a pair of killsaws! BZZT! Chris self-rights though and now carries on through the square, reaching the end just as...

    Next up the remaining three robots try their hand at sumo against Sumo Shock!
    Remember all weapons are de-activated in this upcoming round.

    Welcome back to Classic SMASH!! !
    Before the break Oxen was eliminated in the gauntlet, but now our three survivors must take on Sumo Shock in Sumo Basho!

    First up is Spawn Again.

    SMASH!!

    Sumo Shock has Lynch motors at 72 volts powering his rubber coated tracks, and he€™s very powerful as Spawn Again is going to find out in this match as Sumo Shock powers towards Samuel, breaching the front clearance of Spawn Again and driving it backwards across the plinth! But Spawn finds grip on Sumo Shock€™s plough and manages to drive up and over the house machine before turning around and getting its own wedge under the side of Sumo Shock, driving in underneath now but failing to push Sumo Shock anywhere. Needless to say Samuel holds on in there until the clock runs down.

    CEASE!

    Spawn Again: SURVIVED

    Next is Bad Temper Jr

    SMASH!!

    Both robots go straight at each other, and although their front ground clearances cancel each other out the horsepower in Sumo Shock€™s drive just dwarfs that of Bad Temper Jr, which now finds itself being swiftly pushed backwards and off the plinth!

    CEASE!

    Bad Temper Jr: 6.7 seconds

    And finally it€™s Hypno-Disc.

    Roboteers, standby!

    SMASH!!

    Both robots get going quickly, but as Sumo Shock runs straight at the RW3, 4 and 5 finalist Kody tries to drive away from the front plough of Sumo Shock, but fails to get away in time and Sumo Shock drives straight in underneath the side of Hypno-Disc, driving it straight to the edge and dumping it out of the competition!

    CEASE!

    Hypno-Disc: 5.5 seconds

    Leaderboard:
    1: Spawn Again- SURVIVED
    2: Bad Temper Jr- 6.2 seconds
    3: Hypno-Disc- 5.5 seconds

    Alas, sadly we must now say farewell to Hypno-Disc, who€™s trial capabilities let it down.

    And so the Heat A Final is:
    Spawn Again vs. Bad Temper Jr

  5. #45
    I think Spawn might win this one, as I said earlier...big flipper plus robot that needs to self right plus arena walls equals OOTAing.

    Welcome back to Classic SMASH!! , where now Oxen and Hypno-Disc have been eliminated. The two robots that remain to do battle in this heat final match are Spawn Again and Bad Temper Jr, let€™s get going!

    In the Red Corner, ladies and gentlemen put your hands together for Spawn Again!
    In the Blue Corner, ladies and gentlemen give a thunderous round of applause for Bad Temper Jr!

    Roboteers, standby!

    Booth 1: Samuel Park/Darren Ball/Graham Warner/Luke Jackman
    Booth 2: Christopher Mason

    The House robot residing in the CPZ for this match is Psychopath, the hammer-crazy wedge with immense pushing power and armour to boot.

    #SMASH!! (Green)

    Bad Temper Jr is quick off the mark as soon as the green light shines for the first time in the new arena, with Spawn Again coming out of the red corner to meet its vapour opponent, getting the front flipper plate breached and finding itself being pushed back into the spike strip as the large Overkill-style blade of Bad Temper Jr comes whacking down onto the flipper of Spawn Again with the power of Dominator II€™s axe. Not much damage seems to be done though, and Bad Temper Jr just wedges the RW5 semi-finalist against the spikes, holding it in place for the 30 seconds allowed. But that half a minute passes and Bad Temper Jr is forced to reverse, allowing Spawn Again to manoeuvre around the Robotagon and drive in underneath the side of Bad Temper Jr, flipping Christopher€™s classic heavyweight up into the air! The Overkill style blade is fired just at the right time when Bad Temper Jr lands on the ground, upside down and quickly rights the titanium machine, which drives at Spawn Again and this time turns quickly to dodge the front flipper of Spawn Again and drive the wedge underneath the side of Spawn Again, pushing the long wedge shaped machine across the arena and into the spike strip again! The blade comes down relentlessly on the top of Spawn Again and at last now we see there has been some cosmetic damage in the shape of a series of dents along the flipper of Spawn Again! And now Chris carries on and pushes Spawn around in a large circle before dumping it onto the flame pit! But despite the flames dancing upon the bodywork of Spawn Again no damage is caused and Samuel reverses away from the fire, turning and fitting the flipper plate under the side of Bad Temper Jr, ramming Chris across the arena and firing the flipper, sending its 80kg opponent high into the air! But Chris lands on his feet and drives back at Spawn Again, getting under the raised flipper and whacking it with the blade while it pushes Samuel back across the arena and into the pit release button! The siren wails and the pit is released, giving Samuel and Christopher something else to worry about! But now the 30 second pinning rule comes into play again and Chris is ordered by the judges to release Spawn Again from its pinned position on the arena wall! But Spawn Again doesn€™t move- it seems the flipper plate is stuck under the spike strip! Refbot moves in for the first time ever in Robot SMASH!! and nudges Spawn Again, releasing the tall machine which reverses across the arena into the side of Bad Temper Jr, catching Chris off guard and pushing him into the spike strip! Bad Temper fires the blade and smacks the top of Spawn Again from behind, but now guns the motors and gets underneath Spawn from behind to push it across the arena and slam it into Psychopath, who brings his full pressure hammer swinging down at full force onto the flipper of Spawn Again! CRASH! The whole flipper buckles under the power from the hammer and suddenly Spawn Again starts venting co2- the gas supply has been ruptured and now the RW5 semi-finalist is weapon-less! Chris immediately takes advantage of this and drives in underneath the buckled flipper plate of Spawn Again with ease, pushing Samuel back across the arena and slamming it into the spike strip with a CRASH! The blade pummels the top of Spawn Again repeatedly and despite Samuel€™s attempts to escape Chris keeps getting underneath and ramming Spawn Again into the spikes behind the blue corner! And now finally the match seems to be coming to an end as Bad Temper Jr scoops Spawn Again€™s rear end up on the wedge and rams it across the arena and into the pit, where the RW5 13th seed disappears in a puff of smoke!

    CEASE!

    Spawn Again needs to re-spawn; Bad Temper Jr goes through to the series final!

    Coming Next time, Heat B!

  7. #47
    Woohoo, my heat next

    Good fights Liam, seems to be progressing at a pleasing pace.

  8. #48
    Damnit :sad:

    Good fights anyway Liam.

  9. #49
    It€™s... ALIVE!!!

    Heat B
    Gauntlet

    First up is Painkiller.

    3...
    2...
    1...
    ACTIVATE!

    Painkiller has had its spinning disc removed for this trial and replaced with a clone of its other half, giving it more power and agility was well as a scoop. It starts well, dodging the first pit and driving past quickly before the spike comes out and managing to repeat its success at the following two, and despite being prodded almost in twice over the rest of the corridor Painkiller emerges at the other end and quickly races across the square of flippers, getting tossed over in a somersault almost immediately, but getting flipped forwards and landing halfway across so that Joey can gun the four mags and get across the square!
    And now it comes to the goals, still with time to spare, and the aluminium scoop on the front of Painkiller helps it to run in and guide each ball neatly into the goals and as each one retracts into the ground time ticks down, leaving Painkiller with just 11 seconds to get past Psychopath! Joey runs forward as the crowd count down and Psychopath runs forward, bringing the hammer down onto the top of Painkiller with a SLAM! But Painkiller continues its run and manages to get past Psychokiller, crossing the line with just 2 seconds to go!

    CEASE!

    Painkiller = Completed in 43.0 seconds

    Next is Anorakaphobia.

    3...
    2...
    1...
    ACTIVATE!

    The black wedge-shaped machine goes off at the start and runs valiantly past the first pit in the corridor, but the centre of gravity is too central and takes a few seconds for it to get itself facing in the right direction before it can pass the second and third pits. The fourth spike though strikes lucky and slams into the side of Anorakaphobia, spinning it around and hitting it onto the side of the pit! The axe fires frantically, but Anorakaphobia topples and falls into the pit in a puff of smoke.

    CEASE!

    Anorakaphobia = 7.9 metres

    Third is Infected Canary.

    3...
    2...
    1...
    ACTIVATE!

    The yellow and orange robot starts well, running straight past the first and second pits, but almost falling into the third and Ben takes a few seconds to recover from the near fall before going on the run again and Canary is almost past the fourth when the spike licks out and spins it on the spot! And somehow after that hit there is NO movement! Smoke rises from the wedge shape robot, and Ben looks on sadly as he realises that running his magmotors at twice the recommended voltage wasn€™t such a good idea after all.

    CEASE!

    Infected Canary = 7.4 metres

    And finally Chaos 2.

    3...
    2...
    1...
    ACTIVATE!

    The series 3 and 4 champion of Robot Wars gets a speedy start and doges the first two pits even faster than Painkiller, aided by the manouevrable two wheel drive, and the spikes just aren€™t quick enough to catch nippy little Chaos 2, who is quickly onto the square! Steven manoeuvres carefully over neutral squares, but there is no real way to tell and all of a sudden 80kg of Chaos 2 is flying skyward, and the realie comes crashing down on its back - in the middle route! Chaos 2 self-rights to find itself on a turntable with Sumo Shock, who doesn€™t give it much time to do anything and just rams in under the side ground clearance, scooping it up and delivering it over the side of the turntable.

    CEASE!

    Chaos 2= 15.4 metres

    Leaderboard:
    1st = Painkiller
    2nd = Chaos 2
    3rd = Anorakaphobia
    4th = Infected Canary (ELIMINATED)

    And since you can€™t really have tactics for tug of war here is the trial!

    Tug of War

    First up is Painkiller.

    3...
    2...
    1...
    ACTIVATE!

    Both robots begin pulling, and of course Sumo Shock is far more powerful than any competitor, easily pulling Painkiller into the pit, where it disappears in a puff of smoke. But it did manage to last a few seconds with the low ground clearance meaning the scoop dragged along the floor a bit.

    CEASE!

    Painkiller = 4.1 seconds

    Next is Chaos 2.

    3...
    2...
    1...
    ACTIVATE!

    Even faster than the last match, Sumo Shock guns it backwards, pulling in the black machine in the blink of an eye.

    CEASE!

    Chaos 2 = 2.3 seconds

    And finally is Anorakaphobia.

    3...
    2...
    1...
    ACTIVATE!

    Again Sumo Shock disposes of its opponent with maximum ease, using the lynch motors to slam backwards and send Anorakaphobia flying forwards into the pit.

    CEASE!

    Anorakaphobia = 1.8 seconds

    Leaderboard:
    1st = Painkiller
    2nd = Chaos 2
    3rd = Anorakaphobia (ELIMINATED)

    And so the heat final is:
    Painkiller vs. Chaos 2

  10. #50
    ...this is still going?!?! Good work anyway by Liam

    TACTICS:

    Obviously use the disc setup for this one rather than that odd four wheel drive scoop thing. :P
    Basically try and stay away from Chaos 2 till Ive spun up and keep the action in the centre of the arena, dont allow it to chase me down to the arena walls and try for a flip out. Once spun up, although I like Chaos 2 and appreciate its place in robot combat history and its greatness...hit it till it stops. Once it stops, dont attack it any more, dont want to overly damage it or risk taking myself out. :P

    Best of luck...uh...good point, who was it that entered Chaos 2 in this? Sorry to that person, but good luck to them anyway
