Thread: Eye Of The Robot - Series 5 Re-Opened

  1. #161
Well I did say in my Extreme Edition that I'd be hypoing the older tournuments like this, the Challenge Belt and the All-Stars. However, I did have this hypo actually fixed BEFORE my return, purely because I was bored and needed something to do, and I did actually already write up the final fights as well, so at least you're getting something.

However, little issue, since the final is already written, tactics are redundant from those taking part (sorry to break it to you as well, but two of those vapourboteers have since found pastures new  ) So for the final, we'll be playing a little game - whoever predicts the final outcome the most correctly - two eliminators, the play-off and the epic final battle - will win the TROPHY OF PRIDE! Anyone up for it. Anyways, sorry bout this, but shat(ner) happens

So everyone, who is gonna win the trophy of pride for predicting, and who is gonna be award the E.O.T.R trophy, albeit quite lately? Let's find out! Predict away!

  3. #163
Well, I'll have to go back on my earlier statements on no hypos, seeing as it's been so long, Paul. Still a bit sad it had to go like this, though.

But seeing as I'm in the final, w00t! Can't predict myself, so I'll say Wedge Devolution beats Apocalypse and moves on to fight either me or Danny Bailey's machine.

    Awaiting the final fights.

  4. #164

  5. #165
Sorry, I did say I was gonna post the final a while ago...I didn't, but now I will due to nothing better to do
Bare in mind tho, I WROTE THESE MONTHS AGO BEFORE MY RETURN. I did my best with what was there and stuff. Please like it, but that is all I ask, please predict for the special pride cup, but except for that, no tactics. Thank you if you do predict, and correctly, and prove Kody wrong Anyway, read away...

    GRAND FINAL
    ELIMINATORS

Intriguer (1) vs. Cat With Wheels (11)
    Wedge Devolution (14) vs. Apocalypse

From Toronto, Canada, seeded #1, INTRIGUER!!
    Entered by Kody Kunz
The mysteries of this robot are best kept hidden - especially since it€™s the champion! This robot is an ulta-low box 10cm in height, coloured green and cyan, with two spikes at the front that act as a super low scoop using the surface area rule, is a powerful force, using 4 wheels coated with urethane rubber, powered by 2 x LEM130€™s at 48V, providing a bit more power than the 36V ones, as this robot has 24hp in its power supply. The axe on this robot is Titanium, with a 5cm long solid Hardox axe-head, diamond edged, designed to pierce Titanium no issue, and dent Hardox easily using 2 x 2.5kg CO2 bottles, both at a pressure of 250psi. The armour on this robot is 5mm Hardox, very hard to cut or dent. The champion is a force to be reckoned with, but with a 4-9mm ground clearance, it€™ll have to reckon with powerful flippers€¦

    In E.O.T.R 2: Didn€™t enter.

    In E.O.T.R 3: Didn€™t enter.

In E.O.T.R 4: Used that axe to good work in Round One by hacking into Paralyzation, and with help from 21st seed Turbo Tails, was able to pit it. And then we were treated to the biggest shock in the series, as Intrigue faced off against 5th seed Black Panther Queen - they both exchanged axe blows, until Intrigue got its axe into the ABC armour of its opponent, it then powered the seed down the pit! 21st seed Turbo Tails proved a little tougher in the Heat Final, as it flipped Intrigue and attacked the base panel, but Intrigue stopped the spinning of the and then finally pitted the Scottish design! Big Nipper drove towards planning a victory against Intrigue in Round Four, but Kody€™s robot was able to bash Big Nipper€™s armour and push it down the pit, but in Round Five, we saw Intrigue€™s new biggest surprise when 1st seed and reigning champion Kali had every reason to beat it, but Intrigue overcame it, grabbed on with the axe and confined the Champion to the pit! In the final Eliminator, it started off badly with Storm 2, the 4th seed, grabbing a hold and pushing Intrigue into a wall, but he recovered well and performed another pitting and getting through to the Grand Final where fellow unseeded newcomer, Fire And Ice, also give Intrigue a pit of hassle, before Intrigue brought his axe into play, snapping a track, and leaving Fire And Ice immobilised, and making Intrigue the champion!

In E.O.T.R 5 (SEEDED 1): The first two rounds in the heat were breeze-easy for Intriguer, as he immobilised The Grudge before Leviathan disposed of him, and then straight after KOing The Deer in gruesome fashion. However, the Heat Final was the hardest battle the Champion has encountered so far, where Leviathan was all over Intriguer, nearly getting the Champion out the arena twice. However, Kody fought back strong to score a highly controversial JD. The Semi-Finals were much easier, with the deadly Sakura causing only dents and scratches before being pitted in the first Semi-Final battle and facing Big Nipper again, this time seeded #8, who flipped the champion over at the start before the pummelling of the hammer put Intriguer in the final!

From Bedford, seeded #11, Cat With Wheels!!
    Entered by Danny Bailey
A robot with a surreal name is a robot with a real chance of winning. It may win through using its highly effective wedge-shape to help bring his front-hinged, high pressure C02 flipper, powered by two rams running at 500psi into play! The motors in this thing are 2 x S28-150 Magmotors running at 24V to give 12hp and a speed of great pace - 18mph! The 2 Vulkalon wheels provide ultimate traction and the 7mm Titanium armour is quite good, but not great and may fall to some of the arena hazards!

    In E.O.T.R 2: Didn€™t enter.

    In E.O.T.R 3: Didn€™t enter.

In E.O.T.R 4: In Round One helped team-up with 31st seed Cyclone Force 2.5 - armed with the disc - in order to help remove Turbulence, as the ex-UK Champion was flipped over repeatedly and shunted down by Cyclone Force 2.5! In Round Two, we saw an unbelievable shock, as 15th seed Flick Of The Wrist bossed Cat With Wheels around the arena, pressed the pit release button, but as it was about to ram Cat With Wheels down the pit, the flying Dutchman drove over the wedge and fell in instead! However, Cat With Wheels wasn€™t going to get passed Cyclone Force 2.5 without a struggle, until the vapourbot Storm-lookalike was stacked against the side, putting Cat With Wheels into the Semis! Straight after beating a Storm clone, it took on the actual Storm 2, seeded 4th. The match went badly, as Storm 2 rammed him around the arena for a majority of the battle before successfully stacking Cat With Wheels on the wall to be counted out. Cat With Wheels was freed afterwards and managed to pit the powerhouse realie, but too late to count.

In E.O.T.R 5: (SEEDED 11) The cat has had a very good run throughout the competiton, after throwing both Bulldog Breed and Axetra around the arena and taking the attempted attacks from both robots with little damage, before finally throwing a tenacious Axetra over the barrier, before scoring a 10 second pitting against Requiem as Cat With Wheels just pressed the button and throw the Welsh drummer in. The Heat Final against 27th seed Super Gore Revo was almost as easy as the first round, as the gripping claws kept scraping rather than damaging before the clawed robot went over the barrier. The semi-finals were much harder, as the vicious FBB Dervish: Generation X caused serious damage to the Titanium armour of the seed, until a shocking turnaround, as Cat With Wheels pushed Dervish onto the ramming spikes, stopping the beater, allowing Cat With Wheels to get underneath and ram Dervish across the arena and throw him out! Even more shocking than that was the defeat of 13th seed and previous Grand Finalist Achilles: the match was a flip fest, with Cat With Wheels dominating slightly, scoring an impressive flip on an open-flipper Achilles that disabled the weapon and left the seed and very experienced veteran stuck on the wall, putting Cat With Wheels, 11th seed into the Grand Final!

And we€™re off! The final of another E.O.T.R championship is underway, as both the 1st seed and the 11th seed move into the centre of the arena. Kody is trying to keep his narrower front facing Cat With Wheels so he can get underneath€¦AND HE CHARGES!! But Kody has has a driving error, leaving him vulnerable to a side-on attack to Cat With Wheels, and Intriguer is carried to the arena wall, fires the axe, hitting the Titantium and digging into the top a little€¦FLIP!! The 100kg of champion hits the Hardox wall hard, but Intriguer doesn€™t go over, instead he hits the wall before landing back down. Kody breathes a loud breath of relief, recovering from a terrible error that could€™ve lost him his crown. The judges make note, marking down Intriguer for control and stragety, but marking Cat With Wheels up. Kody seems aware of this, as he reverses over to the pit release button, being careful to keep the wedge facing the front of the worthy opponent. Cat With Wheels charges at the front, missing the wedge and hitting under the front around the wedge, and throwing the champion against the wall once more! Intriguer lands back down on his wheels, and drives quickly from the Cat, who is now in hot pursuit and on form to win this match and get to the Grand Final. Now in the centre, Intriguer waits as Danny comes to him€¦Danny moves in quickly, BUT INTRIGUER IS UNDER THIS TIME!! And now, Intriguer powers the 11th seed into the corner, and now begins the halestorm of axe blows, knocking the Titanium top away from the chassis with the plate buckled and dented, but not completely off. Kody is told to back off, and thus Intriguer reverses, only to be chased by an aggressive Cat With Wheels back to the centre, as Cat With Wheels rams into the front of Intriguer AND UNDERNEATH!! Activates the axe, hacking with the rack-and-pinion mechanism as Cat With Wheels with the damaged top hits the arena wall and flips€¦and Intriguer is stuck on the wall!! He€™s stuck with the axe overhanging the wall, as Kody swings the axe up in a half-hearted attempt to get free€¦but it€™s not working!! And worse than that, the countdown has started, as Danny places down his controls as the crown of the current champion leaves his head!

Intriguer (1) is left wondering as to how he lost!!
CAT WITH WHEELS (11) GOES THROUGH TO THE GRAND FINAL!!!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From Scotland, seeded #14, Wedge Devolution!!
    Entered by Steven McGregor
Welcome one of the most simplistic but effective vapourbots ever! It€™s a low, sleek 4mm Hardox protected wedge, powered by 2 x LEM130€™s for 18hp in the drive! 16mph is the need, and flipping is its need with the classic rear-hinged flipper design The flipper itself is powered by 2 X 80mm high pressure pneumatic rams, each running at 250psi. This should allow Wedge to comfortably flip up to 1 ton! The 7mm ground clearance is protected on ALL sides by BioHazard style skirts, and a front extension to get under everything! It can self-right easily, but with only 2kg worth of gas on board, it could run out of power quite early!

In E.O.T.R 1: Appeared in the first ever E.O.T.R battle with Y4 and Flipping Hell. Y4 overturned Flipping Hell, which killed itself, putting Wedge and Y4 into Round Two, where Wedge easily bossed over Invertex to win the JD 49-26. But in the Heat Final, the series shocker Y4 flipped it into the now-removed bot-shredders to immobilise it, making Wedge crash out of the competition!

In E.O.T.R 2: (SEEDED 11) The removal of the bot-shredders proved to help Wedge greatly, as it tossed Merlin and Rouge about the place before it was assisted in an OOTA by Merlin, and Rouge went flying! GeForce Evo 3.0 needed to evolve once more, as Wedge got under and flipped it out easily! Merlin was the next victim to say goodbye to the arena in the Heat Final, despite being trapped by Merlin. However, its greatest task came in the form of 23rd seed Psyclonised, who broke off both of the side panels, but Wedge converted to bravery mode and then shockingly flipped Psyclonised OOTA! But in Round Five, it had an ultra-close battle against 2nd seed Storm 2, and they had an extreme battle, where Storm 2 won, by a JD 38-37.

In E.O.T.R 3: (SEEDED 6) Took out Tough As Nails quite early, after struggling with Infusion, but Tough As Nails went OOTA, before its greatest challenge against the almighty Sheer Heart Attack 2. The Dutch machine battered it, but the drum was grounded to a halt by constant pressuring from the seed who then pitted it! Then a grudge match against 22nd seed GeForce 4.0. A one-sided flipping battle which ended with GeForce landing on its opened flipper. GeForce then got back and then got revenge by flipping Wedge OOTA, but that was after the count, so Wedge won through! 10th seed Orka MK.4 bossed Wedge in Round Four, but Wedge finally got it on the flipper to toss it OOTA, but in the Quarter Finals, it took on newcomer Eternia, which proved to have the lower flipper and so it flipped Wedge all through the fight to win on a JD.

In E.O.T.R 4: (SEEDED 7) Started off the first Round by flipping about realie Iron Awe 5 with his own awesome flipper and the help of SOR Hex, before throwing Iron Awe 5 OOTA. In Round Two, an axe vs. flipper battle ensued where Axe To Fall fell over the barrier after being thrown about by Wedge, before the 7th seed fell victim to the improved 23rd seed Die-Ceratops ReInvertus and became an OOTA victim himself.

In E.O.T.R 5: (SEEDED 14) The seeded wedge started off his best run in E.O.T.R by throwing out realie Disc-O-Inferno in a matter of seconds, before doing the same to another realie, X-Terminator, who despite getting a good hit in with the disc, soom flew over the fence. Then the fast and powerful rammer Noo Monsoon, who joined Wedge through the first round battle, had a closely contested battle with the seed until the seed stacked the troublesome Welsh rammer on the side of the arena to win to the Semi-Finals, where his first battle was against former champion and 5th seed Kali. The battle was more strategy than previous battles for either competitor, with both robots relying on control to win. In a battle with only 2 flips from either competitor which both were scored by Wedge, Wedge was able to take the JD based on aggression, before beating vastly improved robot Disco 5 after a thrilling match of flips and disc hits before the once-impressive Disco 5 crashed on the outside of the ring, giving Wedge Devolution his first ever Grand Final!

    From Cardiff, Wales, Apocalypse!!
    Entered by Liam Elliot
Here comes the end. And the end in this case comes in the form of a 30 degrees wedge, armoured in 4mm Hardox with 5mm Titanium skirts. It has 6 wheel drive, with the wheels slanted att an angle in order to keep perfect control. These 6 wheels have 2 x B42-500 Magmotors on board, providing 17mph speeds and 60hp of pushing power - more than most rammers in this competition produce. To be honest though, with the flipper producing over 2 tonnes of lift, easily capable of throwing robots in a manner similar to Gravity and Wheely Big Cheese, or any other amazing flipper out there. At face value, this seems like the full package, but underneath, there€™s a weak-ish base panel that will come under fire from any flipper axe combos in the competition and that would be the end for Apocalypse.

    In E.O.T.R 2: Didn€™t enter.

    In E.O.T.R 3: Didn€™t enter.

    In E.O.T.R 4: Didn€™t enter.

In E.O.T.R 5: The newcomer flipper didn€™t have the best first Round in the competition possible, as he teamed up with 16th seed Killobite 5.0 on Behemoth-on-steriods design of ISDSFA, and despite throwing ISDSFA around, the seed was pitted by ISDSFA instead, essentially making the team-up fail. The Second Round was much easier as it was a flipper vs. flipper match, over in less than 30 seconds, as the Welsh flipper Pure Evil: Back 2 Basics was dummied out by the driving from Liam and tossed OOTA. ISDSFA was the Heat Finalist, and easy victim; despite the first flip in the battle was being performed on Apocalypse by ISDSFA, Liam showed off his machines incredible self-right, before getting under and tossing Frank OOTA. In the Semis, Eye Of Ran, the powerful new spinner was another victim, as the spinner tried to damage the Hardox and failed as Apocalypse sent him flying before gaining a narrow win in his hardest match so far against 2nd seed Phoenix Down; the runner-up last time rammed Apocalypse around the ring and Apocalypse wasn€™t able to flip PD in a position to make it count€¦until the last 15 seconds of battle, when PD went flying OOTA and Apocalypse went flying though!!

Off they go, with Wedge getting out of the starting zone just before Apocalypse as they both speed into the centre of the arena; the flippers clang against each other, but both of them cancel the other out! This is when the power of Apocalypse matters, driving Wedge across the arena and into the spikes, causing little damage to the Hardox, but damge nonetheless. Liam reverses to get a run up and now Steve drives forward, and WEDGE IS UNDERNEATH!! And Steve activates the famous flipper and up and over goes Apocalypse, but Liam turns on his own more powerful flipper, as Apocalypse flies up in a 3ft 180 degrees up, landing perfectly on his wheels. Wedge comes in again, and THE FLIPPER IS UNDER! This time Steve is trying for an OOTA as he drives his opponent towards the wall€¦but the flipper doesn€™t give the power this time as Apocalypse merely goes into a roll. Wedges flipper comes down, BUT NOT BEFORE LIAM GETS UNDERNEATH THE DECLINING FLIPPER HIMSELF!! Liam tries to turn Wedge to face the wall, but can€™t quite, instead opting to throw the seeded flipper over in a style double somersault with Wedge landing over on the rebound. Steve activates his self-righter, but isn€™t very powerful€¦and we can see why - the CO2 canister has been leaking since the hit on the spikes! Steve starts to panic, especially since Liam is underneath now - FLIP! A massive 180 flip that sends Wedge crashing upside-down on the wall! Steve activates his flipper, once again landing on the wedge of Apocalypse€¦AND FLIP!! Wedge flies up and crashes down again€¦but not on the right side of the wall this time. The crowd woops as newcomer Liam Eliot and Apocalypse make it through as Steve graciously accepts his defeat.

    Result:
Wedge Devoltion (14) is has devolved too far!!
APOCALYPSE GOES THROUGH TO THE GRAND FINAL!!

    PLAY-OFF
Intriguer (1) vs. Wedge Devolution (14)

    GRAND FINAL:
CAT WITH WHEELS (11) vs. APOCALYPSE

Send in prediction and comments. Remember, this is for the greatly contested pride award...I would say the main trophies but it turns out both the finalists are no longer members of this forum...oh the irony

OK, due to lack of action on this forum, and my struggles of my own to write fights in amonst Summer Boredom among other things, here are the fights from E.O.T.R. After I've finished the Extreme Edition, be prepared to expect another series, albeit much more scaled down, with 72 robots instead of 96. The fact that there are few competitors left will account for this as well.

But before I begin, I wish to congratulate the winner the Trophy of Pride...KODY KUNZ, the only person to partake Well done Kody, you have the Trophy of Pride, and because Pride is a Biblical sin, you also get a free ride to hell Don't worry, you have AC/DC to take you there.

Anyway, fights. Hope you like them...or what they are

    PLAY-OFF
Intriguer (1) vs. Wedge Devolution (14)

    GRAND FINAL:
CAT WITH WHEELS (11) vs. APOCALYPSE

    INTRIGUER vs. WEDGE DEVOLUTION

    Booth #1: Kody K
    Booth #2: Steven McG

    Roboteers, stand by!!!

    3€¦2€¦1€¦activate!!!

And here come the two defeated finalists already in this competiton. The first to get the initial hit is the ex-champion Intriguer, ramming under the front of Steve and driving him towards the arena wall at full speed€¦SMASH! Wedge tips onto his side slightly, but uses the flipper to stablise himself before Kody can get a shot on the vulnerable base panel. He is unable to stop Intriguer from getting many powerful hits in on the flipper wedge until he€™s told to back away. Steven comes out and charges head-on into his opponent and getting under€¦but he flips at the wrong time and Kody€™s ex-champ isn€™t even tilted. Kody reverses across the arena now, hitting the pit release button. Steve chooses wisely not to charge head-on against him, instead letting him come towards him. Intriguer charges on a quick assault, getting underneath the side of his opposition. Steve reverses, hitting the wall and ending up at just the right angle to get underneath the front around Intriguer€™s prongs, like Cat With Wheels did. FLIP!! And now Kody is in trouble, but a quick fire from the axe self-rights him, and now he gets his turn, driving underneath Wedges front and bringing the mighty mallet down onto the flipper in repeated onslaught€¦BANG! BANG! BANG! The repeated hits on the Hardox amourment of Wedge are showing. Kody once again backs off, but Wedge isn€™t going on the attack for some reason; the flipper is firing away, but it seems the repeated hammer attacks have caused the LEMs to cease working! And with only 20 seconds of Play-off to go, Kody has scored a victory, spinning in delight and firing the hammer as the countdown starts!
    10€¦9€¦8€¦7€¦6 €¦5€¦4€¦3€¦2â ‚¬Â¦1€¦cease!!!
Intriguer rams in again on the countdown, firing a final shot that slightly pierces the Hardox skin. Kody goes into a slow reverse, pulling the dead Wedge out, before shaking him off the end of the hammer and then pushing the Scottish flipper down! Once again, spinning in victory is Kody€™s machine - he may no longer be the champion, but he still gets a podium place!!

    Result:
Wedge Devolution (14) is now back in the ooze, and he misses out on 3rd place!
    INTRIGUER (1) CLAIMS 3RD PLACE IN E.O.T.R SERIES 5!!!

    BUT NOW€¦THE GRAND FINAL!

96 robots started out, only 2 remain - 2 to fight to the death and for 1 to die for the other to be crowned with the E.O.T.R Hardox trophy! Only one can take it, but who are the mechanical monsters that have shocked all the bookies to make it this far?

    Roboteers, stand by!!!!

    3€¦2€¦1€¦ACTIVATE!!!

And off head the new finalists, both wedge flippers who have scored OOTA after OOTA between them both, ready to claim the Hardox cup! Danny is relying on driving, as he tries away from the front of Apocalypse. He drives on past Liam, before performing a sharp 90 degrees turn, facing the side of Apocalypse! He powers forward, the skirts on Apocalypse cancelling the tenacious tabby out, but Danny continues to push anyway, slamming Apocalypse against the wall, before reversing and ramming in again, this time breaking the skirt and flicking Apocalypse against the wall. Liam activates his almighty flipper and throws his machine away from the wall and into the arena centre, landing upside-down in the centre however. He activates the flipper again, but he lands on Danny€™s wedge, and Cat With Wheels is now powering his soon-to-be victim towards the barrier€¦FLIP! And Apocalypse is once again thrown against the wall, but not over. Danny backs off again off, but Liam charges on, as he is clearly behind in this final. Liam charges on, as does Danny. However, Cat With Wheels turns off to the left at the last second, and begins driving around, trying to get at the side again. This time the plan fails though, and Apocalypse turns his front to face Cat With Wheels as the wedge of Danny drives up the front. Liam put his power down, but can€™t seem to go anywhere, even with the 60hp. So he just flips€¦a mighty, powerful flip, sending the seeded finalist into a 540 degree spin, sending him crashing down. Danny self-rights however before Liam can get another attack in. He does try though but this time Liam drives up Cats own wedge€¦Danny charges forwards€¦FLIP!! Apocalypse€™s rolls over, landing against the wall! This is bad for Liam, but worse for Danny as he can€™t get a decent attack in on his rival for this moment. He reverses away, Liam trying to get his traction onto the wall. NO, I DON€™T THINK HE CAN!! LIAM IS STUCK€¦No, he€™s off the wall; he back in with only seconds to spare. Liam tries a different tactic, driving at Cat With Wheels at an angle, aiming for the sides. Danny is trying to keep the front facing Apocalypse, turning every chance Liam might get€¦BUT HE JUST TURNED TOO SHARPLY! Liam charges and Apocalypse is under, pushing him towards the wall€¦FLIP! A triple somersault here, and Cat With Wheels lands on his wheels...INSIDE the arena! Liam isn€™t happy, and charges on. But he misses, hitting the wall. He reacts wrong now, firing the flipper and throwing his own robot onto its back! Danny rams in as Apocalypse self-rights once more, onto the wedge as Danny powers him towards the barrier€¦FLIP! And this time, there€™s no wall hit; Danny timed it perfectly, Apocalypse flying up, landing on the barrier before the valiant newcomer slides over the edge as he had seen happen to his many victims throughout the competiton! Danny jumps up and down with joy whilst Cat With Wheels spins in delight; a worthy champion of E.O.T.R Series 5!!

    Result:
    Apocalypse has met his end!!
    CAT WITH WHEELS (11) WINS E.O.T.R 5!!!!

And the champagne flies around the arena, as the podium is brought out, the dust removed from it after many long years in storage. They are brought out and the awards begin!

In 4th place, claiming the copper cup is that Scottish terror, the braveheart that is Steven McGregor with the 14th seed, impressive wedge, WEDGE DEVOLUTION!!

In 3rd place, the Titanium medal/trophy, winner of the Hardox cup last time, this time forced to settle for Titanium. From Toronto in Canada, Kody Kunz with the 1st seed and ex-champion, INTRIGUER!!

In 2nd place, he was a newcomer to the sport, but he€™s gained and showed experience all the way through to the end (no pun intended), it€™s the newcomer from Cardiff, receiving the Titanium trophy/medals and £15,000, its Liam Eliot and APOCALYPSE!!

But in 1st place, doing the best of everyone in the contest, a Hardox medal and trophy, £30,000, and a limo to take them to celebratory party is the well deserved award for the a tough vapourbot that went out in the Fourth round last time, it€™s Danny Bailey, with the robot that was seeded 11th and is now the new champion, CAT WITH WHEELS!!

As I said a new series may be happening. Assume so, and then I will post up seedings if the event does come about. Anyway, enjoy the remainder of Summer
