Thread: The Returners Tournament

  1. #241
Killotine will ram Ringwraith right off the bat to stop that nasty drum spinning. I can then grapple it with the axe and try to dump it off the edge ASAP.

Unless Richie fancies a team-up against the realie.

    Battle 1

We go to the Classic arena, where three more mechanical maniacs are about to put their bodies on the line. Fighting today are:

Representing Martijn, Sheer Heart Attack is designed more to drive over opponents, all while providing grief with its nasty 22 KG drum. Its shape makes it difficult to get hold of and push around, but by today€™s standards its armour isn€™t the best. Will it achieve sheer victory, or just have a heart attack?

ARRTDS is Paul€™s annoying ramming robot that doesn€™t stop. Powerful drive motors, invertibility and a tough shell make this a tough beast, but a lack of even a passive wedge could make other robots hard to stop even with annoying ramming. It should be noted that thanks to tournament delays, this is not indicative of Paul€™s current quality.

Last in is ForcePower 5.0, a formidable ramming machine with an invertible wedge. Although this could travel a lot faster, speed is kept down to 15 MPH for control purposes. Interchangeable wheels allow grip on any surface, and the 6 mm Hardox armour will prevent spinners from doing too much to it. However, its own lack of active weaponry could be a disadvantage in certain arenas.

ARRTDS heads straight for ForcePower, but Andy turns ForcePower to meet the threat and the front wedge meets the front skirt. ARRTDS is edged backwards, until the front skirt gives way and ForcePower easily pushes ARRTDS back into the wall, where it crashes and rolls off.

Meanwhile, Sheer Heart Attack is€¦ Not doing a whole lot, before Martijn decides to go over to the other side of the arena and press the pit release button. As the pit descends, Sheer Heart Attack approaches ForcePower and ARRTDS. ARRTDS is trying to get a side attack on ForcePower, but Andy€™s more experienced driving is giving him the edge, and ARRTDS is constantly finding itself rammed into walls and into CPZs. Although the house robots haven€™t caught ARRTDS yet, it only seems like a matter of time.

Sheer Heart Attack joins in now, and dashes Paul€™s hopes of a team up by instead smacking its drum into the side of ARRTDS, catching a flat side full on and flicking it onto its side. Rather than leave it there to get counted out, Martijn attacks again, flicking it over and against the wall. Sheer Heart Attack backs off and drives in again, hoping to eject ARRTDS from the arena.

The drum isn€™t powerful enough, and ARRTDS is just knocked against the wall, until ForcePower slams in, under Sheer Heart Attack and dislodges ARRTDS. Despite being outmatched, Paul isn€™t giving up, and ARRTDS starts to get away from the two machines. ForcePower soon catches up when ARRTDS stops to turn, and this time gets under the side of ARRTDS, swivels around and drives ARRTDS straight into the heart of the pit.

    CEASE!!

ARRTDS is the annoyed ramming robot that did stop. ForcePower and Sheer Heart attack go through!

    Battle 2

Next we go to the Moat. Our next competitors are:

Entered by Richard, Ringwraith was once a man, seduced by the ring. Now he serves the dread Lord Sauron. Able to instil fear with his mere presence, he mostly uses a sword and can ride either a horse or a flying€¦ Thing. No man can slay him, although he does seem to be weak to the feminine touch.

Entered by Steven and proudly representing Scotland, Killotine Evo is the axe/rammer combo from Hell. I mean Scotland. Same difference *dodges eggs* With powerful drive and an equally fearsome axe, Killotine aims to give all its opponents the chop with its patented grapple and pit tactics. But will the weaker base and top mean Killitine needs to Evo again?

Finally, the Battlebot that needs no introduction€¦ Actually Battlebots hasn€™t been on for years, so it probably does need some introduction. Entered by Chezza, Mechavore is the deadly spinning disk armed robot that nearly put a stop to Son of Whyachi. That same disc tore a neat circle around Vlad, and has taken Biohazard€™s arm off in the past. However, it must be feeling the effects of time by now, and it lacks a shrimech. Will Mechavore€™s appetite for carnage be sated or suppressed?

Killotine box rushes Ringwraith straight from the off, the wedge ramming under the wheel as Ringwraith moves its drum out of the way. Ringwraith continues to spin around, until the drum catches Killotine in the side and knocks it over. But now Mechavore comes in, and the disc catches the wheel of Ringwraith, blowing shards of lexiguard everywhere!

Ringwraith spins like a top, and knocks into a self righted Killotine. Killtotine turns and knock into the drum with its front wedge, but before the axe can pin it, Mechavore comes in and slices Ringwraith straight off the wedge, before also attacking Killotine, taking a slice out of the wedge for good measure!

Steve isn€™t having any of that, and the axe smacks down onto the top of Mechavore, doing some damage. Meanwhile, Ringwraith is looking in pretty bad shape. It€™s not moving properly, and there€™s a nasty scar on the inert drum. Sensing weakness, Killotine leaves Mechavore and nudges against Ringwraith to make sure it€™s dead, then starts pushing it towards the arena edge. Mechavore backs off to conserve energy for later. It€™s clear who€™s going out here.

    CEASE!!

Ringwraith sent back to Mordor, Mechavore and Killotine Evo go on!

    ITS ALIVE!

Mechavore vs. ForcePower in an arena with no walls...this is quite possibly the most obvious fight ever. ForcePower through.

Killotine Evo vs. Sheer Heart Attack in a fight to the death...Killotine to eventually run out of gas and be unable to self right when Marti flicks it over.

Good stuff Frank, try and keep up some kind of pace now please
