Both machines move steadily away and both seem to be pondering the best method of attack. There's no tenacity from either machine, and both seem to be quite happy to wait to force the other into a mistake rather than go on the aggressive themselves. Eventually Acronyms is the first to get bored of this rather feeble excuse for a fight and goes in at the side, trying to get the arms round. He gets them round but fails to do any damage. Instead he decides to push him into the angle grinders, which produce superficial scars and look pretty for the cameras and nothing else. Frank opens the arms up and Wedge Devolution reverses out, scraping himself along the angle grinders in the process.

When he finally gets away he seems to be lining up an attack at the front, figuring he can either get underneath the horizontal claws or the main bodywork of Acronyms, but Frank seems to predict the plan and turns to present the skirted sides before gliding off. He appears to be going towards the pit release button, but Wedge Devolution uses his speed to intercept and tries to fire the flipper in the process, only wobbling Acronyms but at least redirecting its course for a less advantageous part of the arena. Frank curses his luck and tries to get around the back of Wedge Devolution, however Steve sees this attack coming to and spins around, getting underneath the claws with the flipper and throwing Acronyms through the air and onto his back. He flies a fair distance but this has its benefits as he has enough time to right himself. Or at least he would if he had a self-righter... umm... yeah... not so great Frank...

    CEASE

Acronyms has been STFU. Wedge Devolution goes through...

    Heat 11 - Round 2 Battle 1 - Die-Ceratops Re-Invertus (2 v Syndos

Both machines move pensively at first, knowing that they've already taken the first step on their bid to join the great victors. Die Ceratops keeps attempting a charge before backing off, as if overly scared of the large spinning disc at the front of SYNDOS. SYNDOS though, rather than being scared seems to be willing to sit on his laurels and intimidate, slowly turning himself around to face Die-Ceratops with the disc at all times. Die-Ceratops seems to think this is getting either of them anywhere, and so extremely early in the fight, shoots across the arena and hits the pit release button, seemingly wanting to show some aggressive intent, if only to impress the judges. It turns out to be a bad move though, as SYNDOS follows him, and smashes into the rear end of Die-Ceratops with the disc. the 8mm titanium buckles inwards but doesn't bend under impact, however the first damage points clearly go to Richard.

Chris knows that he's going to have to find something new to get rid of SYNDOS, or his number 28 seeding could be going bye-byes. He tries to turn to face, but SYNDOS is still backing him against the wall, and this time it results in a side impact, again the 8mm titanium coping with the strain of the impact but for how long. It does at least allow him to slide along the wall, but only into an angle grinder. This time sparks fly against the top of the wedge flipper and it just allows SYNDOS to get in another more calculated attack, this time on the wheels. The attack seems to take a chunk out of the rubber on the left hand tyre, and seriously dents the protective bar around it at the same time.

The referee comes into to force SYNDOS to allow Die-Ceratops out, and although Rich looks seething as he doesn't feel he was pinning him in, it's not long before he gets another attack in, this time on the other wheel. The impact doesn't tear rubber this time but it bends the wheel defender on the other side as well, and turns over the number 28 seed. Chris frantically darts at the controls trying to find a way of getting back into this fight, but Richard isn't having any of it and looks like a man on a mission, as he thumbs the controls.

He flies in towards Die-Ceratops Re-Invertus again but this time, Chris finally gets his plan into action and gets the wedge underneath as he changes angle. The flip is ineffectual though as the speed of SYNDOS carries him over, only losing balance slightly as he lands back on his wheels. He turns and makes a beeline for the side again, before crashing into him and making contact with the wheel defender, again it's buckled, more seriously this time. Chris again hammers frantically, but to no avail. The last attack appears to have jammed the protection into the wheel and is preventing drive on one side. Richard pummels the gently arcing robot on his deathbed repeatedly, flicking him over and about with the disc. Finally, as if to show some empathy, he slows down the disc, and shunts him into the pit, but not without one last attempt by Chris to fire the flipper and save himself.

    CEASE

Die-Ceratops got well and truly sliced and diced by SYNDOS. He goes through.

And so, the heat 11 final.

And both robots immediately leave their marks, SYNDOS seemingly wanting to get away to spin the disc up and Wedge Devolution getting away in order to prevent just that! Both machines had relatively easy 2nd round battles, and so it seems that both are in full working order with plenty of time to repair very little damage backstage. SYNDOS' weapon seems to have been kept away long enough to be reaching the ferocious speeds that it's capable of, and it immediately brings it into bear, slamming into the side of Wedge Devolution. The 4mm Hardox withstands the damage for the most part however, one of the hemispheres on the side of the machine has been dented in slightly, but not enough so as to seem a problem, should the Scottish machine be turned over.

Steve moves his machine away from the attack and spins around just as SYNDOS comes in for another attack, which allows Rich's machine straight onto the wedge. Steve can't believe how easy that has come and manouvres him towards the arena wall, looking to end the fight in double quick time. He fires the flipper, but Rich's machine is too high up the wedge and rather than being thrown over the fence is just thrown over the back of Wedge Devolution. He lands on the disc though, stopping it almost on impact and so Wedge Devolution goes straight back in at the inverted front, sliding underneath again. He fires the flipper, this time throwing SYNDOS through the air, and once again he lands on the disc. Steve is doing an excellent job of keeping Rich from getting the disc up to speed.

He flies in again, but this time SYNDOS spins away and manages to make an impact with the disc on the side, but the speed of the weapon isn't high enough to do any damage and so just stops dead against the 4mm Hardox shell. Both drivers know that they need to come up with an attack to kill this fight off, but neither machine appears to be quite sure how to do it. SYNDOS retreats away, but as he does so, Steve seems to see an opportunity, and rushes towards the pit release button. Rich isn't impressed by this tactic though, and at the last minute manages to knock Wedge Devolution out of the way of it, Rich obviously feeling that an open pit could be more detrimental to his chances. Steve isn't going to give up that easily though and after attempting to plough his way through SYNDOS, merely spins around the back, and gets just enough of the flipper plate on the pit release button that the siren sounds and the pit descends.

Rich again retreats, thinking that if he can't stop Wedge Devolution opening the pit, he can at least stay down the other end of the arena to it. He seems hesitant though as once retreated he sits, waiting for Team Braveheart's flagbearer to come to him. Steve duly obliges, and Rich finally moves, getting round the side once more, and once again smacking into the hemispherical structure on the side. This time Steve's machine is knocked over onto his back, but immediately Steve fires the flipper, and in a plume of gas, self-rights almost as soon as he hits the ground. Rich looks unimpressed, and in an effort to gain more favour should it go the judges slams into him again, this time into the rear. The disc throws Wedge Devolution up in the air, only for him to balance back out and land back on the floor, right next to SYNDOS' disc again.

Steve drives forward, but SYNDOS matches him for speed and slams him into the arena wall. He backs off to slam into the rear, again and again, and again, but Steve becomes wise to it and manages to spin his machine around, and once more gets SYNDOS onto the wedge. He moves away from the arena wall, with scratches and scars all down the back armour plate, but now he sees his chance as he begins manouvreing the unseeded machine towards the pit of oblivion. He gets to the edge and attempts to back off but can't get SYNDOS off the wedge. He drives forwards and backwards, trying to wriggle him loose, but just can't manage to until eventually he does, however he leaves SYNDOS on the edge of the pit. Rich tries to move away, but Steve views it as a foregone conclusion, and with 1 more quick slam to the side, knocks him into the pit and out of the competition.

    CEASE

Well, it was survival of the fittest, and Wedge Devolution goes through.

And so onto heat 12, where our battles are

    Intrigue v Axe-O-Lotl
    Tornado (26) v Blendo

    Thoughts, Tactics, Predictions, Modesty?

oh dear, missed this! apologies, Matty

    Intrigue vs. Axe-O-Lotl

Nothing fancy here: get to the sides, grapple'n'pit. I doubt his axe can do much to the 9mm titanium but I don't want to risk it by getting in his axe range, so avoid the front. :P

    Tornado (26) v Blendo

Blendo...went through? LMFAO. It's not going to do much to Tornado though. :P

Nice job thus far, Matty, and nice to see you haven't given up (yet).

Well, do what you have to do, Matty, but 'twill be sad to see this tournament go such a way. :/
