Oh I can remember getting together with friends, we would visit each others houses on a rotation schedule, with a selection of our discs and some munchies. The host would provide the drinks (lemonade or cola). It was a lot of innocent fun, having a gang of 10 to 15 kids at your home and playing your discs, dancing a bit but mostly listening and chatting.
Mind you, our house in particular was popular, due to our dad being a single parent and having to work shifts -which meant he would be absent every afternoon one week out of three- and us having a football table game, a sjoelbak (a game involving sliding wooden discs over a glossy wooden plank into slots), several air pellet guns and some musical instruments. But it was the discs really, listening together to your preferred selection of music... what a time that was !

I still have a respectable stack of LPs (33-1/3 rpm) and 45 rpmers (even a couple of real ancient 78 rpmers). If I could find a player that I could connect to my computer I could record them.

Heck, if I could find a player I could PLAY them !!

Theres more new record players at all prices than ever at the moment. The Pro-ject range is particular good value.

I started to record my vinyl via the computer - my amp had RCA output that plugged straight into the sound card of my computer. I recorded them digitally using Creative Wavestudio which is now (I believe) freeware. The resulting .wav files can then be burned to CD via Nero or other such burning s/ware.
Mind you - after 12 CDs I only managed to dent the collection as far as my 12 dance singles - there are the rest of the 12s plus LPs - about the same size as Leos collection. Mind you - the wonderful thing about digital sampling is that the scratches and clicks can be removed - I never knew how good one particular 12 sounded until I removed the sound of all the manufacturing faults (bubbles, dents etc) and then pushed the higher frequencies a bit

Sadly not in Vilvoorde. But I think I know what Im going to ask Santa for Christmas.

There are now also turntables with USB, so you can convert them to mp3 in one go, and edit afterwards.

Not ultra cheap, but certainly the cheapest decent USB deck on the market. The ones for £100 or so are relatively low quality plastic jobs and sound quality will not be good.
