Cutting stainless steel. URGENT HELP!!

I need a reply asap, to this. My dad wants to cut a shape out of a rod, that is aprox 18mm in diameter. Basicly it is just a slot into it. Will a hacksaw be good enough?

Use a fine tooth blade and itll be fine.
