Swedes at ROBOlympics 2007

Greetings!

The 4th annual ROBOlympics will be held next June in San Francisco. In the last years, we have had teams from 20+ countries - but no Swedes! Last year, the Brazilians and Canadians even managed to take a gold medal in two of the combat classes:

I would like to invite you all to come and compete!

There are over 60 events to compete in, including 11 different combat robot classes: http://robogames.net/events.phphttp://robogames.net/events.php

We are working with the FRA to get as many European teams to come as possible.

The 2007 games are also host to FIRA (robot football/soccer) championships - 7 different kinds of robot football will be played. Of course, we also have robo-one, sumo robots, and much more

This is a very conceivable goal for next year. Not that we have actually reached any of the goals that the team has set up previously. But some day we have to get to some international competitions. And than my philsophy is the bigger competition the better. Or shall I say the more bots to kick the better

$220 entryfee for a heavyweight...ok. But is there a way to win anything back? .

Looks very nice but the sheer costs of the travel, hotel and fee I know for a fact scare away many europeans. Not to mention the costs to freight a 50-150 kg robot + spare parts is going to take a pirates treasure :sad:.

Im not trying to badtalk you in any way or form, I would love to come , but I think you will have to realise that it will never be a big turnup from the average joes in europe.

I guess the best thing for us to do is to put all the eggs in one basket . If we can get one robot from sweden to compete with the help from sponsors and other teams we might make it.

Its not all about the money though. An event like this can be a thing of a lifetime for some people. Worth spending some money/time/ on .

Ill waive entry fees for the first 3 swedish robots - so spend the $220 on shipping or your airfare...

Sounds great! I would love showing up on a wild card.

It will take me a couple of months though to get all the necessary uppgrades done on my axe-bot, so before that we can not think about signing up for any big competitions, but it cant be any hurry considering its next years championship we are talking about?

P.S Markus, I think we can arrange some sort of common shipping alternetive where my team sponsor takes care of the shipping (its always good to be backed up by multi national industry companies), if you would like to go, that is. This is only speculations though.

And dont forget they have lots of weight classes. Im from the UK where we have only feathers and heavies (and a handfull of middles)and built a 3 lb (1.4 kg) machine to compete in the most recent games in San Francisco (I mailed it over and got my sister in law to drive it) and am building a 6 kg machine for the 2007 games. Think big but also think small.

Thats why I didnt mention bots from 25 kg and under because its plausible to ship it with either regular mail or to take it in your suitcase. (You are aloud to bring 2 cases 25-30 kg I think).

It could be some problems in customs though trying to explain you are not a terrorist .

I have both the money and, hopefully, the time to travel for this event. Dont know if I have the stamina or time to rebuild my HW to be able to participate though :sad:.
But if you need an extra pair of hands Im more than happy to come and help you represent Sweden

Weve got a UK 100kg and Dutch 100kg coming, so how about some Swedes?

And dont forget all the non-combat events - sumo, robo-one, soccer, etc.
