Thread: Semi-Finalists Championships Series 1

    Yes, this is a tournament for all the semi-finalists of Robot Wars. Well start off with the semi-finalists of Series 3, so here we go;

    ROUND 1 LINE-UP

    Pitbull v Steg-O-Saw-Us
    Big Brother v Beast of Bodmin
    Trident v Evil Weevil
    101 v Gravedigger
    Panic Attack v Scutters Revenge
    Chaos 2 v Thing II
    Blade v Firestorm
    Hypno-Disc v Mace II

    Post predictions here. If anybody could tell me where the Pitbull team come from, thanks.

    Im going to work from the bottom;

    FROM BANBURY, HYPNO-DISC

    The honeycomb aluminium might take some damage, and it has no self-righter (were using the Series 3 versions), but the huge spinning disc more than makes up for that.

    FROM HASTINGS, MACE 2

    Armed with a lift, ram and flail, this silver box is made merely of aluminium, which will count against it for this battle against Hypno-Disc.

    3. 2. 1. ACTIVATE!

    Mace 2 runs away, and rams itself into the Pit Release several times. It runs into Hypno-Discs back, and lifts it, but does not flip it, and instead chooses to jam Hypno diagonally against the arena wall, with the disc spinning upwards! The RefBot comes in, and its clear to him that Hypno isnt going to come down from here, and so starts the count-down. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and theyre out! The house robots move in, and quickly shove Hypno down the pit the moment the Disc-bot is free. Mace is through to the next round!

    And now, its time for our next bout, Blade v Firestorm.

    FROM DURHAM, FIRESTORM 1

    A typical wedge-shaped robot, with a flipping arm, and a rarely-used rear spike.

    FROM SOMEWHERE OR OTHER, BLADE

    Surprise semi-finalists of Series 3, a yellow-and-black striped box with a rotary lawnmower blade.

    House robots are Sir Killalot and Shunt.

    3. 2. 1. ACTIVATE!

    And were off! Both robots circle around, looking for an opening, until Blade backs off, gets its weapon up to speed, charges at Firestorm...and does nothing whatsoever! Realizing its weapon isnt going to be much use, Blade runs to the pit release button, then circles around it. But Firestorm is quicker off the mark, and charges into Blade, and flips it! The team are doing everything they can to get the robot back, but theres nothing doing. The end to this battle is coming up fast, as the Refbot trundles forward to bring this sorry sight to a halt. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10! And theyre out! Killalot comes in to have a barbecue of roasted Blade, and finally, into the pit they go. Firestorm, theyre burning through to the quarter-finals.

    And now, its time for the clash between Thing 2 and Chaos 2...

    FROM NORWICH, THING 2

    This red wedge with a scary face that has LED eyes, and armed with a scoop and lifting spike, but self-righting is impossible.

    FROM IPSWICH, CHAOS 2

    The infamous red-and-black robot, with a powerful flipper, but this series 3 version has only 1.1 kg of C02 in it, so it could run low soon.

    3. 2. 1. ACTIVATE! Chaos is on the attack right away. It bounces Thing, and Thing is lifted, wobbles, but falls back onto its wheels, and starts pushing Chaos from the rear, and into Matildas flywheel! Chaos quickly overturns Matilda, but at what cost? Theyve torn the flipper in two, and their weapon is almost useless! They try another flip on Thing, but just rip the flipper further, and now, theyre being pushed into Shunt, who slams the axe down ... and narrowly misses the C02 canister, and the blade misses the removable link by inches! Chaos squeezes itself just free, but the rear armours been torn off, while Shunt uses the axe and cracks an eye on Thing! And now Chaos is in on a valiant attack, with the wobbling remains of the flipper lifting up Thing, who slams Chaos into the pit release! And now, Thing forces Chaos slowly over the flame pit, while Chaos fires the flipper many times. It reverses, trying to get some speed for a big attack, but is now teetering on the brink of the pit!

    Just when it looks like the winner will be outright, CEASE! is called, and itll be a judges decision...

    And here it is, with marks out of 5 (damage loses points, and can be more than 5 if extreme damage was taken)...

    Easy, Chaos is out by a 10-point margin, Thing through. Next up, Panic Attack v Scutters Revenge.

    FROM CWMBRAN, IN WALES, PANIC ATTACK

    The Series 2 champions, a box with forks, but ground clearance is fairly high.

    FROM ESSEX, SCUTTERS REVENGE

    A red box, with a front bulldozing scoop, but has no self-righter.

    3. 2. 1. ACTIVATE! And Scutters Revenge starts attacking first, but Panic Attack is on its guard, and lifts up Scutter from the front! It backs off, with Scutter trapped, and hits the Pit Release. Panic drives forward, still with Scutter on its forks, and forces Scutter over! Refbot comes over, seeing that Scutter has little time left in this world, and begins the countdown. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10! And Panic Attack are through! Growler comes in to shove Scutter onto the drop zone. Its raining bowling balls, and CEASE is called. Panic Attack are through!

    FROM KETTERING, 101

    A tracked, silver box, with a spike. Looks pretty harmless, but dont be fooled.

    FROM NORWICH, GRAVEDIGGER

    Brown Cassius clone. Simple.

    3. 2. 1. ACTIVATE! Gravedigger comes in, and flips 101, which has no effect whatsoever. Gravedigger flips 101 against the arena wall, so its like Spawn of Scutter wedged there against Panic Attack in their Series 4 semi. Gravedigger attempts to flip 101 out of the arena, but knocks it out of position! 101 is on the attack, using the spike to pierce Gravediggers aluminium, and slams it against the pit release. Gravedigger flips 101 back, and 101 starts pushing Gravedigger into Mr Psycho, but hes so big and useless that Gravedigger escapes him easily. Gravedigger flips 101 into Shunt, but 101 fires the spike to boost itself away, and starts pushing Gravedigger towards the pit. Gravedigger runs off, and 101 gives chase, and traps Gravedigger into the CPZ, and pierces the armour, before shunting Gravedigger towards the pit. Gravedigger falls down, into the pit ... and 101 are through.

    FROM LEEDS, TRIDENT

    Nice and shiny, with a big axe. Descriptive enough for you?

    FROM CARDIFF, EVIL WEEVIL

    Green, black and yellow robot, with front lifting forks.

    3. 2. 1. ACTIVATE! Both robots are on the attack right away, with Trident using its axe to rip something off Evil Weevil. Evil Weevil starts lifting Trident, and rams it into the arena wall. Trident uses its axe many times, tearing some of the armour on Evil Weevil. It hits the pit release, while Evil Weevil starts limping. The robot drives into the arena wall before Trident hits it again and again, before pushing it into Matilda, who moves in on Evil Weevil...who moves away! Trident is left prone to attack, and the flywheel rips off one of the wheels! Trident reverses back, trying desperately to do something, but Evil Weevil manages to hold it against Matildas flywheel, who grinds at it again and again, before Evil Weevil manages to flip Trident onto its side with the spikes. Refbot comes up, nudges Trident, sees that it wont get back, and begins the countout. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and theyre out! Evil Weevil go through!

    FROM BRIGHTON, BIG BROTHER

    A typical wedge-shaped robot, with a morning star and a steel whip. It has no self-righting mechanism, however.

    FROM BODMIN, THE BEAST OF BODMIN

    Another wedge, a black one, with spikes, eyes, circular saw, and a lift.

    3. 2. 1. ACTIVATE! Big Brother flails its morning star around uselessly, but the weapon just skims across the Beast uselessly. Beast lifts up the Brother, but does not flip it, and Big Brother attempts to use its steel whip, while the morning star falls off. Beast turns around, sticks the lifter beneath it, and overturns Brother into Sgt Bash, highly similiar to the Brothers exit from Series 3. The wheels skim over air, but it doesnt look like Big Brother is going anywhere any time soon. The Refbot obviously thinks so, because he drives over with the clock ready to give Big Brother the count-out. Watching Big Brother (no pun intended), he begins. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10!

    Well, it might have had a morning star, but it seems that Big Brother is no longer a star...Beast of Bodmin go through.
