it only has about 45kg of power at this stage as it seems to keep on binding up, but its only a 9.6v drill at 12v. i thought a 12v at 24v drill might burn out.. needs more power... and friction on the threaded rod seems to be a real problem at this stage. might have to move onto a scooter at 24v..

oh yeah and as for mounting wheels onto drills heres a different idea, take the chuck out of the drill, cut it up, then press it into a wheel and use the 3 forks to stop the wheel rotating, i glue them in on the rear of the wheel. works perfectly.

  3. Cool looking robot there Glen, I remember trying to make a claw mechanism using a drill a while back but had a few problems with it so I just decided to get a linear actuaor instead. Liking the shape of the robot/claw mech as well - makes a change from all the Razeresque claw weapons that Ive seen.

P.S. The video wouldnt download/open for me so I havent seen the crushing mech in action yet, but what sort of stuff have you been able to crush with it? Just curious as to what 45kg of crsuh can do.

Force X Prototype from 3 years ago (300Kg crush, 2 seconds close time, 12v)

However, new featherweight crusher currently being built by Team Storm, 2 tonnes at the ram

Nice design though, like people say - different from the traditional Razer crushers !

hey all, finally got a chance to finish up the crusher part of this robot amidst constructing 3 other feathers lol.

    heres a bit of a revised video http://glen.botclips.net/Woodzilla test%202.wmv
    http://glen.botclips.net/Woodzilla test%202.wmv thats about 115kg of power at the moment on a 9.6v drill @ 12

interesting how much friction limits the power. so much force is wasted through the friction in the threaded rod and quite a was lost when the jaws would sort of push apart when crushing.

might try 24v now lol. gotta know where the limit is.

ed - very nice looking fowards to seeing a destructive weapon that isnt spinning

    hi
in robots is it viable to use corded drills in robts? or rather their insides?

is yes what sort of speedos etc. would you need to make it work well?

    cheers alex
