Lee was your small oxy tank one of the BernzOmatic type? How do you go about removing the fitting from the top? And isnt it dangerous?
They sound like a good idea as theyre very light even when full of O2.

now we have the bigger ram in merlin we need to fit in somes buffers. Im currently thinking of 2 sodastream bottles, as they are about the right physical size and have a handy 1/2bsp thread! ive got the bottles and emptied them, but i now need to remove the valve in the end, im assuming it just screws out? i want to make sure before i blow myself then length of the garage! or does anybody have anything already, about the same size?

I use two of the 0.8litre aluminium paintball bottles as buffer tanks for my full pressure system. They are rated for CO2 pressure. I bought then on Ebay for ~£22 each. I have taken the bottle inlet up to 1/2BSP, and will be getting the bottles professionally retested before use. This costs £20-25 each.

The tops of steel Sodastream bottles just unscrew ...theyre are thread locked on so you may have a fight on your hands.
You could just unscrew the pin valve ( slotted bit in the middle unscrews ) and then drill out the centre of the brass valve.

i was planning just to remove the valve (the bit with the pin on) and leave the brass fitting on. but i cant unscrew the stupid thing! so i might have to remove the whole brass fitting. If not ill just cut it off and weld a fitting on the end!
Why bother, I have several rebuilded and tested oxygen bottles with different treaded neck available. 1/2 bso or 3/8 bsp, even 1 with a 3/8 hydraulic hose fitted on.
Ill happily dismantle a couple of bottles for you Alan...
BTW ...The thread on the steel bottle is a std BSP Size ....3/8 as I recall.
The tread I found on the sodastream bottles over here is M18*1.5
Handy as that is the metric version of 3/8 bsp.So getting more common over here each year;
If you remove the whole brass fitting it is definatly a 3/8 below.
