Hardox does the job for an acceptable pricetag.

    Nothing boring to that.

Most teams would gladly change to titanium , but the pricetag and the issues working with it ain't acceptable, unless deep pockets and a lot of metalworking experience.

And of course. There still is HDPE. Cheap, light, tough as old boots and easy to work with.

Has anyone in the community actually ever got Hardox from a scrapyard?

You do realise Hardox is just Steel? - hence its alot easier to weld and cheaper to make than Ti or Ali would be.....

Even 10MM aluminium is not strong enough for modern it just twists and bends under the high loads

Hardox is just a special type of steel. 10mm of Aluminium just isn't strong enough these days.

Fluffy, above, has 12mm 6061 Alu bulkheads... by the time MMM had finished, nothing was straight.

Cant remember the robots name but this is 8mm 7075 Alu... ouch :-P

Regular mild steel is no good either, just bends. Titanium is very expensive unless you get lucky so is used in key places if people can afford it.

HDPE is so cheap comparatively and no where near as dense so you can have far more of it for protection. Its not unbreakable by any means but Hardox is just the best all round compromise right now, so that's why everyone uses it.
