A thing about motors

I think most guys here are using 1000rpm motors or similar style ones and I just thought this worth a mention:
I was checking over the 4wd thing today as I kinda just ignored it since Burgess Hill and one of the motors felt really rough and not good like it was grinding. Closer inspection revealed that the motor had come loose at the gearbox, dunno how well the photo will show it

Not by much but just enough for the gears not to mesh properly. Took the gearbox off, loctited the screws that hold the motor on and its fine. Only really a problem if you mount your motors by the face.

Just saying you may want to check your motor screws are locked down etc as after running around for while on and off all day this happened.

I had similar problems with my GR02's, I had one fail due to one of the bolts connecting the gearbox and motor not being tightened up as much as the other leaving the motor askew. Not enough to notice without a proper look but enough that it killed a motor through the extra stress ontop of an overvolt (the properly seated motor was fine and happy

).

Lesson learned: Check your gearbox and motor sit well together.
