DIY ESC

For some time now that i am interested in making my own esc's.
The majority of the diy esc's that i have found are hard for a beginner, but i found this page where a guy uses just a servo pcb, a comparator, a pot, a couple of resistors and 4 mosfets:http://letsmakerobots.com/node/34692

My only question is, the guy uses 12v, can i just use 7.2v or do i have to change something in the diagram to use 7.2v?

I think that is for making a giant servo, I'm not sure if it will work as a conventional esc

LM339 works anywhere between 2V and 30V and the mosfets will still saturate so it should still work

You can leave out the feedback (like hacking a servo) so it will run 360.

Why bother? You would be cheaper and more successful in the long run to pick up a programmer, some turnigy 85a brushless speedos and hack those for brushed motors.

I will not enter competitions, and i don't see why that diagram would not be reliable... And i belive that a lm339 and 8 mosfets are cheaper than a single tz85a...

I currently have relay h-bridges on my robot, i have a little of speed control, but this DIY ESC would be a great improvement to it.
