Thread: FP ram size?

  1. #11
the flipper remains the same by adjusting the lever ratio
This was the point I was getting at though. If you are increasing the diameter of the ram where is the need to adjust the lever point?

For how long is the other robot actually in contact with the arm as it's being flipped? I would hazard a guess that for the most powerful flippers, not that long is the answer.

Mute has 2 off 38mm bore for the front flipper and 2 off 38mm bore for the rear one.

Our new hammer bot Bonk uses a single 63mm bore ram.

this is off topic but hardly worth a new thread-
does anyone know if you could make your own gears ,for gearing down a heavyweight drive motor, using steel plate and a cnc plasma cutter?
All the gears I've looked at online cost a fortune and I might be able to get access to a cnc plasma cutter.

I would be surprised if you got the accuracy required from a plasma cutter.

    Cheap gears here

Gears for chain, pretty easily but unless you're making large, low tooth count gears you probably won't get nice meshing gears. Might be able to do a cycloidal drive as it's less sharp and has less teeth.

Jut looked at the Wikipedia page for cycloidal drive- that's awesome!!! Really clever.

Would this battery be able to run a 2wd hw driven by 2 Bosch 400s ?

Would I need just 1 battery or would I need more? Also do you imagine that brand is not good enough for hw?

Or would 2 or 3 of these be better?

That way I get twice the discharge rate.

max the 8amp one would run 2 x 400 bosches but remember they are 12v motors and you are over volting them what speedo r u using ?

( I run 400s but they are rewound to 24v) and have no problems when I did not rewind blew 3 speedos in one weekend

I'm not sure on a speed controller yet-
I will hopefully try to build by own with the help of our electronics technician at school, but if that doesn't work I will have to try and buy a second hand one.

I will only overvolt them to 18.5v making them comparable to a Bosch 750, I will try to use a low gear ratio to reduce the load on the motors to stop them drawing too much.

Could I use some kind of voltage limiter to set a limit on the current a motor can draw?

    good luck
