Interesting, so although iit doesn't say specifically no Pneumatics, the audience safety rule pretty much rules them out, since a flipper or powerful axe could be too dangerous.
It would likely depend on the exact weapon arrangement, as the crowd is a good distance back. The flywheel powered automatic flippers that Dale Heatherington ( http://www.wa4dsy.net/robot/ ) brings can throw bots very well and are still allowed to compete. I imagine it would be down to the specifics of the weapon system and if you were worried, contacting the event organizer to check before making any plans would be a good idea.
I have to say, your robots are quite amazing. Congrats on your Dragon*Con victories so far, and here's hoping you get more. :)
I put together an Instructable on my 1lb bot Algos. It covers the initial build, some redesign, shaft hardening and titanium anodizing. The Instructable also includes .slddrw and .dxf's of all of the waterjet cut components used. Check it out and vote for it in the Digital Fabrication Contest if you like it. http://www.instructables.com/id/One-Pou ... bot-Algos/
Been working on a 150g bot that'll be used to test some new gearboxes. Seeing as I want to put the gearboxes to the test, I put a stupidly large weapon on it-

whats the overall dimensions of this ?

Main body is 3 wide, 1/2 thick counting top and bottom armor(1/32 ti) and the bar is 5 diameter.
thats crazy man !!! :proud:
What is the side armour made from?
Internal structure and sides are printed nylon. I've got standoffs pressed into the chassis that connect the top and bottom ti plates.
Just need to get the bar recut (it drifted during waterjetting) and the bot will be done. Weight is 135g without the bar, aiming for 12.25g for the bar, which leaves 2.75g for a yet to be released power switch that I'm planning to add down the line.

Great work, love your other bots as well

intresting that the best hit appears to come from a NON max speed power hit.

Yeah, I think it's mainly a weapon bite issue. I'm guessing the bar is spinning at around 10,000rpm (tach'd at 12,000 without the bar) so you've only got about .003s between each half revolution, so there's not a lot of impact depth. Half the speed doubles the maximum bite, and it's still at a pretty high speed, though I imagine the sweet spot will shift a bit depending on the opponent and closing velocity.
Very impressed !!! :-)
Also impressed! And a great example of how important bite is.

Cool, thanks for sharing.
Neat idea putting the standoffs in the printed chassis.
Thanks. It seemed like the lightest way to get something that would work, and it should be able to be glued back on should/when they get broken off.
Motorama 2013 was last weekend.
Nyx: 3rd
Apollyon: 4th
Algos: 3rd
Keres: 3rd
Here are the playlists for the big arena classes at Motorama 2013:

1lb and 150g are uploading right now.
After Motorama, Algos was in need of a rebuild.
The main changes are:
Narrower chassis
Heavier weapon
Pseudo-hubmotor for the weapon

Clash of the Bots 4 was yesterday in Gastonia, North Carolina. I took both US ants to the event. Algos went 4-0, winning the class and Klazo placed 4th with a 2-2 record.

I have friends in Gastonia, I believe there was an event held in the Museum there soon before I last went.
Edit:
The Schiele Musuem!
http://www.meetup.com/Roanoke-Roboti...nts/101769872/
Do they still have the monkeys and the 'shoe-horned' excuses to have them as an exhibit at the place?
They had a mammal exhibit going on, so there were plenty of them there. Only way from the front door to the bot area with no stairs took me right past a bunch early in the morning. They seemed a bit curious about what I was pulling behind me.
Clash of the Bots is a yearly event at Schiele and I don't see it stopping any time soon. it's been a pretty big hit from what I can tell.
Next time I'm over I'll have to make sure it's the same weekend as this event, a BW will fit nicely in hand luggage.
Dragon Con Robot Battles is next weekend, and after some more tweaking on a few of the robots and a few new builds/rebuilds, the fleet is ready.
http://nearchaos.net/DC2013_Team_Photo.jpg
Nyx and Apollyon have been essentially untouched since their post Motorama repairs and upgrades. Gelos (the one with the massive wheels) is a new build from almost entirely scrap parts. Algos has had its wedge freshly sharpened after going undefeated at Clash of the Bots. Klazo has a new, larger, faster drum and some new side rails and wedgelets to match. Reptar is a full rebuild of last years 1lb Dragon Con Robot Micro Battles champion.
Excellent, good luck. Dragon con is one of those conference still on my todo list. Someday.
Video from Dragon Con Robot Battles is actively uploading to http://www.youtube.com/user/mikencr
There are 93 videos total and as of posting this 17 have uploaded so they should trickle in all night.
As a side note, I won the 1, 12 and 30lb class this year.
You seem to be turning into the Sebastian Vettel of the combat robot world! That's an impressive record. Thanks for going through the trouble of filming and uploading these.
Right, there goes my day, starting at video 1. :)
I've been working on a new featherweight for my fiance to drive at events. Here's a progress picture-
http://nearchaos.net/chassiswelded.jpg
Planned attachments are an axe, a hammer, a chainsaw, and a circular saw. Drive is a pair of 18v Dewalts geared for ~10mph and the center of gravity is within an inch of the wheel axles with the hammer attachment, so it should be able to swing fairly well.
Pretty cool
That looks awesome!
Looks nice
Are the wheels going to be mounted direct on the Dewalts gearboxes or on their own axles?
Mike, interesting. I guess with the wheels that size the extra reduction is useful. Did you need this for any shock resistance to the motors themselves?
Also I heard that the Dewalts have a winding advance so that they are 7% ? faster forwards than reverse. Just wondered if this was correct and how you then are looking to balance that?
Chris
Offset is mainly for two things- Extra reduction, and shifting the weight balance closer to the wheel axles. As far as the timing, my intent is to get the forward direction driving straight and rely on the fact that it will only be reversing for short distances to deal with the timing issues. It may twist a bit when swinging the weapon, but it shouldn't be all that much since with the balance it should swing the body very smoothly.
Here's the chainsaw attachment in progress:

Still have to cut the slots in the arm for the sprockets and finish welding the teeth in place. For now they're all tac'd in place as I was running low on argon for the welder. When done it'll be powered by a 775 size motor geared down to a tooth speed of approximately 20ft/s.
