Heat M - Controversial?
I think there were two instances of controversy in this heat:
* The featherweight melee. Doesnt anyone else think that while Gianto didnt do much, it was still twitching some time after Whipper wasnt moving at all?
* The heat final. Robochicken was struggling at the end, but it seemed to be on top for much longer. Then again, it didnt cause any damage to Tough As Nails - I suppose it could have gone either way due to damage points.

I thought the Mute thing was disgraceful, totally over the top
I was really annoyed at Disco Inferno though, just in the wrong place at wrong time
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Id like to have seen Disco Inferno test the strength of TANs armour...
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Poor Mute Team. I hope you got some money back from the makers for that damage.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
One of the flips from Robochicken knocked a panel of the back of TAN, it was quite visible.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
I thought what they did to Micro-Mute was disgusting. Maybe all the damage makes good telly for some people, but all the people Ive been talkingt o about it just found it painful to watch.
If Mentorn WANT more Featherweights to enter, they have to stop putting them in with the really damaging house robots. I wouldnt want to enter if I knew Psycho would run over my machine should I lose.

Heat M - Controversial?
TAN does have some damage from robochicken. It sliced through one of the weldings, but I dont think it was visible on tv. Also I cant remember if that happend in the first round or in the final.
Im shure that TANs armour can handle a few impacts from Disco Inferno. At full speed he might be able to slice though the armour. But I was far more scared that he would destroy the wheels. So I took the first chance I got to take him out. And Im still surprized that i got more tracktion then him.
I must say that I was very lucky with the judges decicions. They did let me win on damage points. If the fights would be 30 sec. longer, Id lost. In 1 fight I didnt had enough energy left to drive out of the Arena.
That panel must have been the aerial. That happens more often.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Mike you have seen the arial support flying away.
Not a piece of armour, take it from me.
And Yes, there was some real damage to robochicken, like a huge gaping hole in the sidepannel.
And Jeroen, sliced trough a weld. Made a dent the size of a matchstick sounds more like it.

Dont any of you remember sir-killalot on top of my first bot, Mini-Maul? He ripped it to shreads... Having 500-750kg house robots in with 12kg bots is really quite stupid. But with the new genaration of featherweights just round the corner, we should be able to fight back!
Cheers, Ewan

Heat M - Controversial?
Those jaws on TAN did more work than the show gave them credit for. Seeing Robochicken shoved across the arena at speed was a delight to watch.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
did micro mute push matilda? at one point MM went under matildas back, it looked like he was pushing her.
ewan, no disrespect, but micro mute is a much better robot then any of yours. Ive fought MM many times before, and its a great robot, i know how long it has took them to get it right.
If it had been mini-maul being dropped on the disc, there would of been just a cloud of sawdust!

LOL!!!!!
There were upraws at the end of that feather fight. The producer was called over and all sorts. I believe Team Mute are still in talks with Mentorn for compensation.
What really happened was - Micro Mute ceased to fully move, was picked up by Killalot, and was taken over to the arena side wall to be dumped out of the arena. But due to the whole battle being so god damn boring as all the bots broke down, the producers over the radio (i herd) called Killalot back to play with Micro Mute with Matilda.
Even if the battle was Boring - they were bang out of order to do that. It does state in the contact and rules that the House Robots and arena hazards will be used to spice up battles. BUT major damage to major componients such as speed controlers and motors (see metal and polycarb armour dont matter) they will be compensated.
But what no one saw until this issue happened, is that they took it out of the contract for Series 7. It was ALWAYS in the contact for all wars, but Series 7, they took out out.
Mentorn needed to go full pelt with damage for this series to hopfuly keep the audience and channel 5 to keep the show.
It was out of order for the House Robots to do that to Micro Mute - but dont worry, the roboteers get their revenge on the House Robots later in the series.

Hey stu, you said youd changed http://www.featherweights.orgwww.featherweights.org, doesnt look changed to me... You should have seen how close the claw of killalot got to the H5s...
-
Heat M - Controversial?
It was pathetic. I felt for Adam and the team. What exactly happened to MM, due to the editing from the start it seemed to have one wheel locked up and going round in circles.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
The problem was simply that we didnt have time to check MM over. We were so busy with Mute that we didnt check all of the connections to the reciever and unfortunately there was an intermittant connection.... hence dodgy control. Micro Mute is a little bugger for shaking off connectors - we even resorted to glue to hold some of them in.
There should have been 6 or 7 feathers in the arena, but they dropped out at the last minute so it looks like they made an example of MM to pack out the show.
Realistically, Killalot couldnt have done too much to MM, but Matildas disk certainly did. The disk weighed 3x more than MM. After the show we totalled up the damaged parts and arrived at £900 - without labour. It was disgusting! I am not a happy bunny - and neither is Mute!
Although MM did push Matilda, maybe this didnt make the HR drivers too happy. 12Kg pushing 120Kg :)
RIP Micro Mute - Long Live Micro Mute 2 (coming soon to FeatherWeight Smash 2004)

I would say TAN did quite some damage to robochicken: http://www.bugs.nl/media/album/view.php?action=count&path=L3J3L3J3Ny9ubC1iYWJzL0R TQ0YwMDI4LkpQRw==http://www.bugs.nl/media/album/view....Ny9ubC1iYWJzL0 RTQ0YwMDI4LkpQRw==
I still have to see the episode though

Heat M - Controversial?
if i recall correctly, arent you allowed to tap-out i remember seeing this in one of the old rule sets.
or did they take this out too?
-
Heat M - Controversial?
yes Alan Micro Mute did push Matilda we all cheeed in our box. that lasted all of 3 seconds when that big bully **** head killalot again singled out a feather and presisted in attacking it.
This is one reason why im not interested in going back to robot wars should it happen again.
and no Glen your not allowed to tap out

Heat M - Controversial?
The Micro-Mute incident caused a bit of an argument in my household - one side saying its the risk you take for entering the arena. My view is that you fully accept the damage caused in the heat of battle - thats part of the risk. For your machine to suffer deliberate and prolonged damage by being held - I emphasise HELD on Matildas disc - yeah the shows producers might find that real funny but I certainly wasnt laughing. I hope you get your compensation.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Ive yet to see the episode (will do so in a matter of days hopefully) but from what Im reading here Matildas been a good right b1tch once again...900 pounds of damage is not funny.
Good luck with the compensation Adam. Fingers crossed.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Adam and co should get compensation. Following the retraction of the Mercy Clause in Series 7, it was replaced with a Rules of Engagement document that Mentorn supplied to everyone. This detailed how and when the HRs should get involved in a fight.
The document clearly stated that the HRs are only there to cause cosmetic damage, and that should the damage go beyond this - Mentorn would pay for replacement parts and components.
I will see if I can find the document and post it in my profile.
Theres no question - Mentorn should stand by their word and compensate the Mute team for the damage caused to create 30 seconds of footage.

Hear Hear! And it should come out of the HR roboteers pockets! :proud:
-

Ooops! I cant believe I called them roboteers! Please forgive me everybody, I am now off to wash my mouth out with soap.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
I probably think Robochicken got in more flips then TAN had in shoves, so I think Robochicken should have because:
a): they were on the verge of getting a famous victory
b): and they would have been fighting their tag team partners, Bulldog Breed :proud: Oh well, wonder how the bulldog will do against Tough As Nails :)
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Tom,in the other tread in this topic Richard gives a link, with a picy of the damage done to Robochicken.
So stop ranting about a wrong judges decision.
The worst damage the Chicken did was a plate of 4mm polycarb supporting the arial and a small dent in a weld.
For the rest, controle, style and agression was about thesame. So the fact you could see the intestines of the combative fowl was a main point.

Mario, how much of TAN did you build?
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Sorry Mario, didnt mean to pick a fight.

The weaponsystem is from my hand and the disposable wheels.
Kos, the teamcaptain had the most of the rest.
Electronics are in the capable hands of Stefan.

Heat M - Controversial?
When the HRs bullied Micro Mute I think they shot themselves in the foot. I personally think most people would dislike that sort of performance - nobody likes a bully. I cant see that really pushing the viewing figures up.
I hope the Mute team get some cash but it should be a whole load more than £900. Mentorn got their moneys worth didnt they?

Heat M - Controversial?
I feel for Adam and co, I am also surprised that Mentorn even mentioned the teams dislike of the action This is a sad time in Robotic Combat history, the sooner Battlebots comes back the better!
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Why dont Mentorn get a load of mini HRs built for the featherweight events? That should stop this sort of thing having such a major effect. Would look quite funny seeing a mini Kilalot running around too!
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Just seen the episode and for one moment I didnt want to go on with viewing as I was completely disgusted by it all. This was even lower than wat the HRs did with Beefcake a few years back...
Adam leaving the control booth was very understandable and from my point of view the best action any roboteer has done while the cameras were filming. Again, good luck with getting the compensation Adam & team...
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Yeah i agree this heat was quite controversial. Beating up tiny robots is bang out of order and compensation must be given, as vital components were damaged (see rules). I hope Mute gets the chance to take its revenge soon on the part of micro mute on those dirty house robots :)
Also i agreee that the final judges decision was slightly odd. Yes TAN did come back into it but surely, oh say, 5 or 6 good flips is enough to do it? Plus the chicken did do some extreme damage, when something big was totally ripped off TAN. This should have counted for more. Plus, bear in mind that throwing a robot high into the air also does count as damage.
Oh well entertaining heat all round, standards of foreign robots and chickens seem to have risen a lot this year.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
George, the bit thing ripped of TAN was a 4mm thick polycarb plate 4 cm wide and about 90 cm long, mounted as aerial support. It wasnt even visible when checking for battledamage.
A non damaging flip counts as agression, ripping the armour counts af battle damage, getting more points for that.
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Ah, i see. Nevertheless, a good heat. P.S. If anyone listened to Londons Heart 106.2 a few days back at about 8 in the morning they would heard DJ Jono Coleman talking about Robot Wars, thanks for the publicity Jono!
-
Heat M - Controversial?
Does this mean the end of the Mute team in Robot Wars?
I hope not, your machines are great. The self-righting abilty of Mute reminds me of, well T-Minus but not quite as high as El Matador, maybe next year eh ;)
