L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
Melee 1
Demolition Man looked a lot meaner that its S6 incarnation... Pity we never saw it do anything, as that disc looked NASTY.
Corkscrew, I felt, was disappointing as weve seen them do some major damage before, yet I dont think they spun up once this time around.
Mute... I think their drive is too powerful, as they were shooting straight under robots without much in the way of flipping. Although from what I remember of the fight, they were instrumental in killing Demolition Man off.
Judge Shred 3 was the best robot in this melee, tipping Corkscrew over a few times and threw it OOTA.
The two flipper robots wisely kept clear of each other... A good melee to start off the show:proud:
Melee 2
Behemoth looked very strong, immediately disposing of Tarurus. The team never DID find out what the robot did, did they.
Crushtacian was kept out of the action for a long time as well, as it was bullied and shoved around by UFO and Behemoth.
UFOs weapon may not have been working, but the druiver was more than competant, and I think they did very well as just a wedge bot, and JP was very unfair on them. Seeing Behemoth extract some OOTA style revenge on Crushtacian was oddly fitting:)
German melee
Angsar - Ouch. We never saw what Repear was capable of as it was instantly KOd, and IBOB seemed to be having the same problems that plagued them earlier in the series. Im looking forward to seeing more of Angsar.
Behemoth vs Mute
As I predicted, the heat final we most wanted to see happened instead in the second round... And it was a bit disappointing. A bit of dodging, one attack by Behemoth, one spec-TAC-ular self right from Mute, they managed to bean Behemoth and Behemoth went... Nuts. Not the jaw droppingly chaotic nuts King Buxton did in Extreme 1, this was the sad kind of nuts which makes you think Oh no, there goes a potentially good fight:sad:
...Also, being killed by a self right is possibly the worst luck theyve ever had. What does everyone else think?
Judge Shred vs UFO
This was a better fight, although mostly dominated by the judge. It was kinda reminiscent of Chaos 2s semi final clash with steg 2 in series 4. UFO came back a bit and shoved Judge Shred around, but with one final flip, Judge Shred gave UFO a restraining order.
Judge Shred vs Mute
Mutes self righting - hillarious. JPs remark about gymnastics was right on the mark.
With both machines showing good aggression, some great flips and awesome (if eventual) self rights, this has to be fight of the night.
I can see some people about to come in and start shouting about the decision... To be fair I have no idea if its right or not. The Judge got more flips in, so more aggression. Mute self righting can probably out-style Razer, both were well controlled... But the Judge was limping at the end so Mute had done more damage. Much closer than it looked I think.
Pierce watch
Angsar 3 is a walker so... Cumbersome. This said AFTER we see it tear into the arena.

Mute did more self wronging than self righting, didnt it? :)
Very bad luck for Behemoth. It looks like they had a lot of drive power, the way it was bouncing about while driving against the arena wall.
Great show altogether.
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
I know, i thought they could take the arena wall out.
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
I was expecting it to push through the wall as well:)

Who actually won?
I never get to see robot wars and you report does not say who won.
Please tell me

Ansgar is now classified as a Shufflewalker.
Actualy, 4 bosches, a camshaft drivetrain, 70 kg of batteries, 10mm steel armour, and a bendy spinning bar weapon. With the Mythras Speedos, each of those driving 2 bosches.
I bot Beta is not a bad machine either, but like most German machines a series or 2 behind, with the exception of Tsunami.
Reaper, also a demonstration of how to build cheap, the machine was relay controled, and a very simplistic drivetrain, and the spinnerhit they suffered ripped out about half the relay controlwiring. Dead in the water.
In any case, the Germans have machines that can compete, now to entice them to participate in UK Life Events.

Best bits: Judge Shred 3 flipping Corkscrew 2 OOTA, Behemoth getting revenge on Crushtacean (if you remember Series 5), Mutes backflip over Behemoth & Mute hopping & bouncing around like a mad march hare (even though its January) in the heat final. :proud:
Worst bits: Behemoth out of control
Ant & co, if you are reading this please make sure Behemoth does better next time, PLEASE

best bit:
on Mutes spec page, the weakness read; Vunerable to Pits.
A weakness that is actually true!
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
Mute? In a pit? Nah, Ive never seen that happen :P

Alan,
We actualy wrote on the entry form pit homing device, but for some reason robot wars changed it to vunerable to pits.

Shame... Pit homing device sounds a lot funnier :)

I liked Behemoths weakness
Found the pit once too offen

An interesting enough heat, but i must moan about the heat final decision...although the judge did look like it had gained a limp by the end...i saw at least 5 successful flips and not a single time did mute turn the judge over. I had to wonder what was going on?
Still, Mute is a very good machine and the semis will be all the better for its presence. I suppose they got back for their unfair new blood final decision.
And about pierce watch, any footy fans on here will know that he is a good and knowledgeable commentator. I think that many people are too harsh with criticism of him. Besides, is there anybody better? (suggestions please).

JP once said Tornado were having trouble getting their great spinning drum to bear on Razer, when theyd actually fitted the SCOOP. So, no, i think were being perfectly fair on him:proud:

I think the decision should have been in the judges favor, at least from what we saw.
Also i must ocmment on Behemoth v Mute were tehr house robot sdid hardly any damage at all. And the mute v judge fite didnt last very long at all. Although im glad mute got through to the semis, from the evidence of what we saw on tele, the judge should have gone through. sorry for any mistakes - i am very tired

Heres the first real bit of contraversy and the prog made nothing of what I thought was a poor decision - I was convinced the Judge had it but not by much.

L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
Had time to watch it last night, The heat final seemed short but there was alot of editing going on. Ive not heard it for sure, but I think that the judge was imobile at the end and it was edited to make it look closer. For the last few seconds it seemed as if they only had drive on one side, if thats the case then mute should have won. If anyone saw it did they drive back to the bullpen under their own steam?
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
if a robot breaks down at the end of a fight.. surely it needs to be counted out before being deemed immobile.
And points lost, not fight automatically lost.
Hence the judges decision.
While Mute is by far the most spectacular robot while self righting....
Style and control????? spending 30 seconds trying to self right doesnt appear stylish and controlled to me, much better to just roll over back onto its wheels and fight on.
Thats the world of tv for you.

The fight was over seven minutes long, so as you can imagine a great deal of footage was missing. The editing seemed to concentrate more on getting the bits in of us selfrighting. We had used our rear flipper a number of times and this was only shown once. After the fight the judges were asked about the scores and we had won by 1 point, which was given to us for style. We seem to have a thing with 1 point decisions :)
I think it was a bit quicker than 30 seconds for self righting. Mutes self rights have damaged other robots at live events and extreme, so in a way it could be classed as a form of attack, 100kg hammer :)

Without being there at the time I have no way to know how long it was imobile at the end (if it was), but like our heat final it also went on over 6 minutes and we lost by 1 point so the extra time seems to be common in close fights. They edited ours so that to me it looked like we were on top for most of the fight where it was infact the other way around so it doesnt suprise me that they edited it like that.
Adam, how much battery power was left at the end? We discharged the batteries after ours and found less that 300mAh left!!

Well that confirms Ed Hoppitts comment in another thread that we shouldnt believe what we see. I can now appreciate his comments about Battlebots being much purer to the sport. Thanks Ed :)

ok.... well adam, please dont change it as its great for the live events.
Cant wait to see you in the semis.

What do you mean by that, Jonno? Anyway Mute will be in Semi-Final 2 drawn against the winner of Heat P (seed for that heat is no.2 seed Firestorm 5)
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
Mark,
From what I remember there was about 0.5Ah left in each pack (1.5Ah total from the 9Ah pack). Basically they were almost flat. In a normal 5 minute roaming robots fight we normally draw about 1.5Ah out of each 3Ah pack
Jonno,
Cant see why we would want to change Mute - weve only just got the thing working properly... well almost :)
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
He means dont change it Tom it was looks great
wonder if Mute could selfright back into the arena after an oota now that would be good to see and what would JP say about that :)

and my robot is in heat P ... Ripper :)
watch the titanium sparks fly !!!!

L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
What about the pit.....could Mute finally do what we expected of its forefarther Cassius in series 3, and use its powerful flipper to high tail it out of there?
What Im saying is....could Mute escape the pit if it fell down it onto its flipper?
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
Mute could probably (note - probably) jump out of the pit but only if it landed upside down and if the nose cone was far enough away from the wall.
If the nose was too close to the wall it would probably try to smash the pit to bits...
I think its a long shot, but not impossible - it would simply come down to the way and where Mute landed.
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
I think the trajectory of Mutes selfrighting is not steep enough to get it out of the Robotwars arena. It might get out of the Roaming Robots one.

If Mute did do it, youd get to name it :)
Pi-mech anyone? (Or was that Tornados frame? :proud: )
Something like Sri-mech anyway, but to do with the pit
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
I think he meant arena Chris. There was some speculation on the RW forum if Mute could self-right itself right outa of the arena:)
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
oh i was wondering cus you wouldnt get out the roaming robots one because its fully enclosed.
-
L-o, L-o, we have a wooty review
I liked the look of the new Corkscrew, I felt that it was unfortunate that the two spinners went out to two flippers again :(

Im only doing it here, because its the first one I realised on, but perhaps we should do Goacher Watch as in his hast to mock Mr Commentator Man hes managed to spell Mr Pearces name wrong, however I apologis if that was deliberate!
