Note- the link doesnt work
Redone note- Does work on internet explorer...
Brillant review Mr Hopper, storm 2 is a good machine, a force to be taken back by.
Everyone says it still looks like tornado, but I say its better than Tornado (sorry Andrew), and it will be a good final.
Tim is a good driver, always keeping the front pointing towards Trax.
David Sheppard (it doesnt matter if you get it wrong, no-one ever gets it right)
Lol - were not in the final quite yet Mr Dave, I believe if we get to make it that far weve a Semi-final wed have to win our way through first !

Fantastic write up- detailed, eloquent, exciting, and having it from the perspective of all three team members and a new dimension- excellent work! Cant wait for the semis now :-)
Regards,
Eddy
Good write-ups Ed, and nice to see a robot web site being kept up to date! There are some very old sites out there these days.
Cheers,
John
nice write up ed, thanks
The only thing that bothers me :
best heat till now. ?
did they miss heat D ?
:)
no just didnt think that was the best heat.
A rambot taking someone out the arena is real cool,a flipper doing it is zzzzzzzzzzzzz sorry started falling asleep whilst typing...
Yes Chris, I think we all know your views on flippers by now :)
flippers are cool really its just the fights with ootas bore me slightly. :)
Fair enough. Fights that are over too quickly by what ever means I find disappointing from a viewers perspective. I think the general concenus is to have an arena that prevents the majority of ootas but not all.
BTW, I have yet to see the Storm heat but will do so tomorrow, looking forward to it.
Lets see ya flippy people get someone OOTA without using ya weapon :P
X-terminator?
Give it to Matilda?
u tell um ed.. lol
Your lifter moved when u rammed Steel Avenger into the wall - so your weapon was used :) So back off the flipper people.
Mr Stu
Lol - no the flipper didnt move until after they were already heading skyward if you watch the footage.
We werent sure at the time whether Tim had used the lifter in time or not (hence I posted somewhere saying that I *thought* we had a record but wasnt sure) - but having looked at the footage Steel Avenger was already at the top of the arena wall before Tim got the lifter into play. Talk to Tim if youre not convinced, he was mr flipper operator at the time !
...check ya facts before posting young Stu :P
Try and take my OOTA without using a weapon away from me will ya :P

Much as i hate to say it, Eds right:-) The lifter didnt make contact with steel avenger. I even went through it frame by frame cos Im sad.
REAL REAL SAD
But but but but but, the movment of the lift must have created some sort of weight un balanece, or kj of energy, or something that that that made steel avenger go out the arena. you you you still moved your weapon.
Mr Stu
-I know he was right before he even posted , still worth the work up tho :)
can i just point out that ed has been blurting all year long that storm 2 is itself a weapon with so much kj of force and all that so you did actually use a weapon to oota steel avenger.
oota without the use of a weapon....taken away
OOTA without the use of a weapon happens in every battle, when the robots drive/are taken out of the arena. :proud:
oh dear hear come the kids....
Run along spinner boy :)
Mr Stu
ok im of:)
If Storm 2 rams into the side wall at full power, with another robot ramming it out of the arena. Will the forces involved damage the arena wall?
Dave, who was trying to be funny, but it didnt work in the last post.
ive seen Storm II in a fight with Das Gepack in the roaming robots arena in Holland. during a couple of slams by Storm II i saw the entire arena move 3 inches. Both Das Gepack and Storm II did this. If theyd put Tornado in aswell they could have moved the entire arena where they wanted to go. :)
But i saw no real damage on the wall though.
Leo, Storm IIs performance in Holland was nothing on what it was producing in Series 7 - things were a little more fine tuned by then !
I doubt the Roaming Robots arena in its current form would take Storm II without coming apart - but Jonno knows that and Im sure hell fix it.
We have indeed been asked by Mentorn to go easy on the arena with Storm II twice now, once asked to stay away from weak points, and once asked not to slam people into side walls so much.....

shame WITW was concelled, cause that was going to be the last job of the event.
See how / if storm 2 can break the arena, what better way to improve things by having it broken.
Jonno
Thats how i improve my robots. :)
Ed, its a fantastic machine however if you wanted to get to the World Championships, youd have to finish in the top 3. John Willoughby, excellent finale for Steel Avenger, what can we expect from SA2 next time round?
Vic, the Robot Wars crew became VERY worried during the qualifiers and the filming because the arena got a lot of damage from the start that was worse than they have ever seen before. We are talking about I-beams of (Im guessing here) 100 milimeter think getting bent like straws, Im talking about polycarbonate panels getting smashed like thin ice, Im talking about using crowbars to dislodge panels wrecked into the supporting beams and for removing removable links (pun intended), I talking about cameras getting hit by flying robots, featherweights going into orbit and roof lamps having to be replaced. A lot of money was spent there.
It was fun though.
Tom said however if you wanted to get to the World Championships, youd have to finish in the top 3
Eh.... where did that come from ?
Ed

The reason I guess that RW was worried about the state of the arena was a public safety issue more than the actual damage to the set. A hit to an already weakened construction could result in serious injury to the audience.
Then there arena is not up to scratch then is it.
I agree. But after watching the fights from the pit are i also found that the robots this year are far more destructive compared to the robots of series 6 vs series 5.
I believe it has to do with the increasing amount of Magmotors, Lems, fullpressure systems, buffertanks, Nicads, Hardox, and other neat stuff i dont have the money for in series 7, wich were more rare in series 6.
The robots have evolved this past year in a way Mentorn never anticipated. And im pretty sure you wont see this arena for series 8.
if we see a series 8!!!
Think positive. And if not, then not. Eitherway, the arena problem is sorted then. :)
possibley i they can spend that sort of money on a new one.
