We managed to get into that little intro section very briefly 3 times :)

Well done Paul by the way.. couldnt have had a better first appearance for M2 really..

Sam,
I think many of us were looking out for ourselves in the into. Seem to count two snippets of IG-88.
Was the £20,000 a slip or are we in for bigger cheques ? Maybe £25 becomes £35 !!!!!!
Thought the format looked ok, nice lot of action, damage, arena exits etc.. can see why E became A !!!

No i cant work out the moving heats around bit either.
I think the 20grand he is refering to is the whole prize fund what he forgot to mention
-
Looking Fantastic
Its a bit of a con that 20 thou thing, I heard it mentioned at least once as the top prize of £20,000... little bit of misrepresentation if you ask me..
Would be alright if we actually had a chance of winning that sort of money! :)

Very enjoyable show! It ought to do well on Five if theres any justice.
-

I dunno what happenned with the whole £20,000 thing. It started off as a prize fund, but halfway through one of the fights it definitley turned into the £20,000 top prize !
I hope it was just a JP mistake, and not Mentorn trying to mislead the public !

I wonder how many people having just seen the show are thinking of clearing their garage out and building something for next year in the hope of winning £20K.
Think you€™re correct Chris, total prize fund, much the pity !!!
Must say the addition of a non heat related battle was reminiscent of the old pinball thingy. Thought Nova looked a little over powered, almost throwing itself out of the arena ( well into the barrier anyway!! ) Looking forward to heat I Show 9 or is it 4 or maybe 6 ?????
Having just watched the recording again if all the shows are as entertaining as this I think 5 will be on a winner.

Well-impressed and just goes to show a flipper can be entertaining?

Youve changed your tune, John! Great show, very entertaining.
Supernovas fight made me wince a bit though, the sparks in their opponent looked expensive.
-
Looking Fantastic
i did feel sorry for supernovas opponent, i know there was a no mercy clause by the HR but they went far too far IMO.
well done to all the competitors, this was a very interesting heat and wets the appitite for the rest of the series..........shame i have to wait till Feb!!!!!
o and one last thing, why didnt they replace JP? he really got annoying when he kept saying where did that come from? when it was obvious which robot a panel or weapon had come off. i say get some roboteers to do the comentary!

Mechaniac did prove that hardox/Creusabro makes good armour.
Only the mounting to the frame, and the frame itself wasnt up to the hits from Supernova.
And Balen wasnt happy with the results, as the teeth on the disk did suffer from the contact.
A funfactor, the frame from Mechaniac was left in the pits, the electronics, and batteries in the bin, but the armourplate is back in Austria.

Battery and electronics damage all courtesy of our friend Killalot..
Remind me not to drop dead in the arena at any point.. its seriously bad for your wallet!
Was that the robot that Supernova sheared one of his teeth off against then? I didnt realise that...

Nope, the Supernova teeth kept to the disk in that fight, but did have a serious di«t.
Nice steelblue discolered and shortened teeth.
Nope, we Belgian/Dutch didnt see any money. And I prefer it that way.(now that is officiialy, Im not averse to some cold hard cah) As money seems to distract form the fun,and attracts the wrong kind of atmosphere.

No John we aint got our £50 appearance money yet...I dont think anyone has!!
re the £20,000 prize money...how is this made up..I thought the series winner got £5,000 and runner up £1,000 ...are they counting all the £50 appearance fees as prize money?
Anyway great show ...well done Paul...BRILLIANT performance.
I thought the format/presentation was good...cant wait to see us in show 14 (heat N if I have counted right)

Mechaniac did prove that hardox/Creusabro makes good armour.
Because it was a very expensive test ;)
using of welded threaded tubes seems not to be a good way to fix armour against spinners.but our main problem was, all functions of our remote had inverted in the bullpit, don´t ask why....
But we had great fun and get a lot of experience.
our new robot is under construction. new and better armour (much stronger than hardox/creusabro), 2 perms, loads of pneumatic stuff and a brandnew roboteq are waiting in the workshop. no screws on the surface, only welding seams.....beware!

Excellent first heat, Didnt see much of what should have been the first heat though but I guess that this was more enternaining to watch and well done paul. During the Tiberious vs M2 fight when I saw Tiberious go through M2 and get stuck I was wondering if they could let go but having seen the clips at the start of the show I knew that they would. The only thing I seem to remember is that you cannot hold a robot for more than 30 seconds and even when Tiberious had a chance to let go they held him longer but this could have been part of the editing they seem to do alot.
Should I mention how quickly the discs were disposed off and flippers ruled.
-
Looking Fantastic
we were there when the final was filmed, tiberious held on for nearly the whole fight, and at no point (until near the end) did they bring the claw far enough out. M2 did say something about this in the interview at the end, but was cut out. When tiberious went through the armour it missed everything, bar the tyre. Had he of gone through anywhere else the result might not of been the same! But well done paul, about time the public stopped saying who? at live events!
great first show, got abit annoying when they repeated everything when they came back from the adverts!
-
Looking Fantastic
RW with ads and you are too brain-dead to remember what happened repeats is better than no RW at all!
With luck we will have a better aerial setup by next Sunday, at the moment our TiVo, large TV and VCR cant cope with the faded Five signal we get. Only the 14 portable can manage for some weird reason. Otherwise wed have started watching late and fast-forwarded through the ads and repeats.
I seriously wonder if advertisers get their moneys worth in these days of recording and fast-forwarding. :lame:

Hi all. Just got my account working. Yep, a great start to the series. M2s performance was superb. Lets hope the punters like RW7 as much as the Roboteers seem to!
The £20,000 was very misleading and probably reinforces Joe Publics opinion that we make money out of this! I wonder when those little cheques will arrive?
Ive got to say that fives RW7 trailers were about the most naff idea that anyone could have come up with. Everyone Ive spoken to who has seen them thought they were really awful. What a missed opportunity to get the show up to speed.

I personally think its somewhat out of order that on the one hand Mentorn are making a huge feature out of the £20,000 prize fund in the show, yet there isnt a single competitor who has recieved their £50 appearance fee.

Its a bloody con is what it is!
Ill bet there are more than a few people seriously considering building for next year under the misconception that itll be financially worth their time...
Anyone thought to speak to RW production and put it forward that the community arent particularly impressed with this blatant bit of misinformation?

Nice to see the only damage Shimmy inflicted throughout the entire RW7... good closeup there, I think JP mistake of £20,000 was up there with Roobarbs 140watt 7HP motors... special they are!

Must have missed the 7HP bit I just thought he had small motors and wondered if it had enough power to even move.

The 20,000 prize money probably includes all the expenses for feeding us and the accomodation :P
I doubt well see the £50 appearence money for a long time yet, not that it makes much difference to me - I wanted to re invest it into the robot but I think my dad plans to take it to help cover the cost of petrol getting there & back.

Hi all,
This is a bit confusing having two forums to contribute to, so please excuse the cut and paste.
Thanks for all of the kind words. I guess I have to say Jackie was right to become team captain and enter M2, will I ever hear the end of it?
Just to add some background to two of the fights. The fight with PC was very close, if I remember correctly the judges took some 15 minutes to decide. M2 was covered in gashes from PC which were inspected by one of the judges but none penetrated the armour so I guess they took them to be superficial. During the last 10 seconds of the fight, just as it looked as though PC was struggling to get back on its wheels, a wiring loom tie snapped in M2. This allowed the wiring to one of the motors to be drawn into the gears shorting out the speed controller thus losing drive to one side. The Roboteq survived this dead short (plug!!), fortunately for M2 the fight was just ending so it went almost unnoticed. Stu did some excellent driving to keep away from the arena wall which I know was his plan but if Refbot hadnt of got in the way...
The fight with Tiberius was cut by at least a minute, basically it was stale mate, Tiberius wouldn€™t let go and every time we were dragged towards the pit, we had sufficient traction on one side to take us back to the CPZ. We stayed in the CPZ for what seemed like ages waiting for the HR€™s but they didn€™t get involved until late on. Once free, it soon became apparent that we had a steering problem and M2 pulled to the right. The problem was later confirmed to be a punctured tyre from Tiberius. Now, these are pneumatic tyres with no filling which meant the rim was free to spin within the tyre with minimum traction but thanks to a gyro and some gentle stick movements, M2 was just controllable.
Also, a quick thanks to Alan Gribble who did a superb rebuild on the front of the flipper after Vader ripped right through it and this was knowing that our next fight was against PC! This is how generous the people involved in RW€™s can be.
Cheers
Paul

Damn, missed the show! Guess that was one of the fights where we didnt loose the blades. Dont worry mario, making some new ones out of somthing a BIT tougher then mild steel this time. All new more powerful Supernova for next year.
Gotta say thanks like Paul to Alan, think i owe him a few pints for all the help with Supernova. If you are in the same hotel as us next year, youre gonna be one drunken techie.
-
Looking Fantastic
Hmmm, tougher blades on Supernova.... why does it inspires me to think about TiN coated Hastaloy for armour?
No, I must admit, that I had a lot of compassion for Mechaniac, as we all know the capabilities of Supernova. On the other side, Mechaniacs 3mm Creusabro 4000 (simular to Hardox) did prove that KOS was right, and that Tough As Nails can take a beating.
And to Alan Gribble. Great to have you as techy, and main mechanical man...not easy to replace a guy like you.
If the guts are up to it.. I will buy you several pints next time we meet.
