Guess the code on the thread title and win some of the sweetest FA in the world:)
Melee 1
Bigger Brother were well on top for the entire fight. Collousus seemed to have flipper troubles and were KOd quickly, and URO was bullied into submission and immobolisation. This was good for Typhoon, as they didnt seem to be spinning for much of the fight and were thrown over against the arena wall. Then they STARTED spinning, looking like a rather vicious spinning top as they did. Still, with two out before them they were safely through.
Melee 2
Disconstructor and Xenomorph looked nasty. For those that didnt hear, Disconostructor apparently uses the same motors for its disc as Storm 2 uses for drive. All in all it was a damn shame it drove itself in the pit. Xenomorph on the other hand seemed to be plagued with controll issues and were shoved around easily by Iron Awe, who looked the most impressive in this fight, as theyd axed Xenomorph numerous times and flipped Hammerhead once or twice. Despite what Craig was saying about no highlights I enjoyed this fight.
World champ qualifiers
I think this was the best qualifier match so far, as ALL the robots could have won, instead of what were normally treated to which is One strong robot against one robot which isnt as strong. But Scraptosaur was immediately disposed of by Tough as Nails, who then went on to spend most of the fight chasing and generally out-driving Gravity before finally catching it, being flipped twice, out driving it a bit more and shoving it in the pit. Phew!:) Maybe NOW people will believe me when I say Gravity is beatable:proud:
...Fight of the night by the way.
Bigger Brother vs Iron Awe
A very quick fight, meaning about 6 minutes of dodging around had to be taken out in the editing room:proud: Anyway, Bigger Brother was on top for most of the fight , so I was thinking Yup... Looks like the Iron Awe curse strikes again. However, and Im not entirely sure how it happened, they managed to outmanouver Bigger Brother and get ONE flip in, sending the number four seed crashing out! Good fight:)
Typhoon 2 vs Hammerhead 2
Typhoon 2 spun up to speed, Hammerhead 2 didnt have an answer. It really was that simple. However, I think Mentorn wanted Typhoon 2 to continue attacking Hammerhead as we havent seen many robots taken to pieces this series, so when Typhoon did the honourable thing and stopped attacking the house robots moved in... Blurgh.
Iron Awe vs Typhoon 2
Hmm... Again, Iron Awe failed to stop Typhoon spinning up and paid the concequences. Well this fight at least tells us why they had to put it back together for the Axe Attack. Poor old Iron Awe:sad:
...Still, they stayed in the arena this time. If theyd been thrown out, Id have suggested renaming it OOTA-Awe:proud:
I WOULD have enjoyed this heat a lot more if certain people in the habit of wearing grim reaper costumes hadnt spoiled it for me about a month before series 7 was actually shown:angry:

Wiever ytoow
yep a good heat wd Tyhoon :)
-
Wiever ytoow
dunno what you mean by fa but i will say anyway
review wooty
-
Wiever ytoow
Ooh, I dont know, could Wiever ytoow just possibly mean wooty review?
Typhoon looks deadly. One to watch.
(It has Thermidor next)

I know Tough as Nails wheels are meant to be disposable, but one of them was in tatters at the end of the fight.
-
Wiever ytoow
i spotted that mike but good fight
-
Wiever ytoow
ARGHHHH!!!
I missed a heat! Everyone is saying it was one of the best! A Flipper didnt win, AND Gravity was in it!
Had to happen to me didnt it!
-
Wiever ytoow
TANs trie was in tatters at the beginning of the fight aswell :) That damage was done by can-opener at the Rijswijk event in april 2003.
I thought typhoon could have held back after Hammerheads bosh went out and lost drive on one side. I can tell you Hammerhead 3 will be a great robot :)
-
Wiever ytoow
Paul u can catch it next saturday. sorry to hear u missed it
-
Wiever ytoow
???? the wheels from Tough As Nails are ment to be disposable, but in tatters?
Not even close.
Its thesame wheel as been used in the Live Dutch event in Rijswijk. And there we got a little gentle nip from Kan Opener.Leaving the right wheel with a missing piece.
In the World championships qualifier(with me in the Scraptosaur team-for those who dont know me,Im the voluminous one-)
The wheels got some good shoves and hits, but not damaging them further than in the past.
And Yes, Scraptosaur III fits perfectly between the claws of TAN, as those 2 robots got about the most fights against each other in de Dutch demo events.
Good to hear the show was pretty good.
Pitty about Hammerhead. This loss is sorely felt on the Dutch live events.
But it demonstrates Typhoons power. As the front(not the flipper) is armoured with several layers polycarbonate.Up to 30mm.

It was a real shame for Iron Awe that they picked a puddle of kilalots oil to park in at the start. They were trying to hit Typhoon before it had spun up. But no traction at the start and one wheel skidding all the way through so they were dead in the water. Great win by Typhoon and TAN though.
-
Wiever ytoow
By the way...in the Special Event, Im sure Pearce called 13 Black the number 13 seed...
-
Wiever ytoow
Yeah, I heard that gaff too.
Well Done Typnoon. They need to get the FW doing that now :)
-
Wiever ytoow
Yes.
Brillant heat, shame Typhoon wasnt spinning in round 1, that would have been great :)
-
Wiever ytoow
Im pretty sure Bigger Brothers OOTA from Iron-Awe is due to Shunt, Bigger Brother tried to move forward, found that big lump in the way and Iron-Awe got into position.
Im not taking away from Iron Awes driving, they saw a chance and took it, to get a robot OOTA takes good timing and awareness of what your flipper can do. I just dont think Bigger Brother would have been OOTA if not for Shunt who Joe was quite right in blaming.
Typhoon shocked me, they seem to be the new Hypnodisc, thing is Hypnodisc also dominated their first year but also had no SRIMECH, well have to see how that goes.

Wiever ytoow
Typhoon spinning whilst inverted should create enough imbalence to right itself. To help, a kind of umbrella of poles that stops the bot from being completely on its side. See Megabite or Rambite, US robots, for a demonstration.
I know the removable link is located in the flag, but this could be worked into a possible revised design...

pah who needs a srimech in a semi final where most of your opponents are flippers :)
david were working on the feather
mike weve got a few ideas for a scrimech but theyre currently under development and im affraid that i cant say anything
thanks to everyone for your comments

Just a thought. Had Bigger Brother got through, would Typhoon have demolished it? We saw BB take a helluva beating from Hypnodisc and come away the winners thanks to the pit, what is Typhoons power compared to Hypnodisc?
Cant say anything...military secret?
-
Wiever ytoow
From what Ive been reading up, Typhoon is way way wayyyy more powerful than Hypnodisc.
-
Wiever ytoow
Well, because Typhoon is a full body spinner, Id say that Bigger Brother wouldnt have been able to pit it.
Naughty Shunt ;)
-
Wiever ytoow
I think BB would of easily beat typhoon (sorry gary). BB has a 10mm thick Ti back plate, he could just keep driving backwards into him. This is all theory of course, nobody knows what might of happened.
-
Wiever ytoow
More military inteligence then
-
Wiever ytoow
The way Typhoon was throwing robots around driving the back into him wouldnt be that good a move.
-
Wiever ytoow
I certainly spun Iron Awe around several times when they hit. Thats going to cause some internal damage eventually regardless of your armour.
-
Wiever ytoow
Also, after Iron-Awe came in in the first melee, the announcer said, Iron-Awe, and, after a brief pause, 2.1, as if they said Iron-Awe, then somebody pointed out Its called Iron-Awe 2.1, not Iron-Awe!.
-
Wiever ytoow
Not watched rw for 6 weeks now but it sounds like its getting good so ill start watching again me thinks.
-
Wiever ytoow
I dont think BB could have beat typhoon. The problem is that after a hit from typhoon, both robots are thrown into opposite directions. You would have to be very lucky to get into a position to flip typhoon before it got up to speed again. (I tried and failed, and so did iron-awe).
I did think that the dropzone was a bit excessive though. I dont mind having my robot smashed to pieces by a competitor in a fair fight. But the dropzone actually did more damage to the internals of my robot (3 hawkers) than typhoon (broken magnets in 1 bosch).

Hammerhead

Wiever ytoow
So did the dropzone in the battle where Panic Attack 24k got smashed through the arenafloor by Terrorhurtz in S6. If you ask me theres nothing that exciting about the dropzone actually...
-
Wiever ytoow
BB has a 10mm thick Ti back plate
alan it may be 10mm thick however it is held in place with bolts, several yes, however these are the weakest point of any armour and against an opponent with such tough armour, our tactics wouldnt be to destroy the armour, but rather rip off the plate. But as u said, who knows? The only way to find out would be to battle.
well we did a few quick calculations and we recon that we can deliever 40kj of energy at full pelt, however this doesnt take into acount weight distribution etc and i personnally believe the figure to be higher (hypno was at 12kj i think?)
I agree that the dropzone is excessive, always. O and thanks Niels for the piece of polycarb (sorry about the mess we made)
-
Wiever ytoow
Hmm...I think how much damage the drop zone does depends on what they drop. Railway tracks???
-
Wiever ytoow
Gary, were you still using the same tips as when we meat as you cut into our Ti (same as BB) by 3mm, on a panel side not an edge, and had only just got spinning. Also hit a wheel but only lost a small chuck. At full speed I think its possible to (hope it cant) get through the 10mm even if the bolts hold. Also the plate you hit only had 4x M6 bolts and these held due to the adjcent plates overlapping.
-
Wiever ytoow
As an expert on what happens when strong armour meets Gary and Typhoon, trust me BB got out just in time
-
Wiever ytoow
That drop zone was evil. I have a piece of railway track at home - only about 20 long and I can *just about* carry it one handed as long as I change hands often. There were about four pieces in the drop zone that looked about 2 or 3 feet long each. Im not surprised it did some damage. Usually its not that bad (Im always surprised by the complete disintegration of cookers and relative intactness of the victim) but I think the tracks was a step too far.

The one major worry i have with Typhoon now assuming they can stay at full speed and not get flipped is the ping effect if the pit is open. Gary would have to be very careful near the pit methinks.
-
Wiever ytoow
Yup, having watched my video of the heat this morning I was a bit surprised that the flippers didnt activate the pit sooner against Typhoon. Garys always going to have driving problems, by the nature of the beast, so a manoeuverable and solid opponent has a sporting chance of pinging them either into the pit or into a CPZ (ideally *behind* a house robot, or they might incapacitate the HR instead...)
Also thought it was very sporting of Ian not to pick on Typhoon in the first heat.
Still, well done Gary! So much for all the debate about whether BB would hold up against Typhoon!
I still think Storm2 might have them, if they get that far, though (Ive not reexamined the draw).

Mark we changed nothing to the outside after the qualifier.
Chris we had contemplated that and i just made a booboo and hit iron awe next to the pit on the wrong side and gave my team mates a heart attack :)
Typhoon 2 is actually very easy to control and i wouldve been able to keep up a longer dodging match with BB however URO rode up the side of the cone and turned the flag so that it pointed to the side, makes things slightly harder!
*notices stuart thinking about a device to turn typhoon cdts flag*
-
Wiever ytoow
Would I? Oh and well done Gary for pointing out that Typhoon Cadet has nothing to do with you and was made by the girls.....
....did you know what was coming or not?
-
Wiever ytoow
Just a question, but is it hard to tell the front, left, right and back of Typhoon when driving it?
-
Wiever ytoow
I believe the flag on top points in the direction its facing - unless someone knocks it.
-- Kev
-
Wiever ytoow
ye it always points forwards and i dont actually look at the robot itself. To me its just the flag that im driving hense why it gets a bit harder when the flag points to the right and you are trying to move forward!
