Well Storm II have done it. I am sure a review will be posted up pretty soon.
However, what happened in the Grand Final? So much confusion, from what I saw it looked like Supernova should have been counted out, but then Refbot pushed it back up the right way. Ok, but in the mean time Shunt was attacking Storm II for what reason? They were pinned up against the wall and Supernova came in for the kill.
This seems like a grey area to me, should robots be counted out when they are stuck or is it up to the Houserobots to free them. For example in the Tsunami, X-Terminator fight if Tsunami had left it would X-T have been counted out?

i think storm 2 tried to attack shunt, and also is it just me or did i notice something come of storm 2 when it was upside down and supernova hit it???
well done Ed
P.S craig was always talking about the loss of storm 2 in the 7th wars.

*spoilers* Can we stick the review in this thread pl
Yes I did - but what I am concerned with is why the the technical head Mr Foxwell and the judges did not have control over the decisions of the house robots?
I am looking forward to hearing from the builders, Ed etc who were there as the fight was so harshly edited that one minute Storm II was about to win, then it was tossed on its side and then back on its back again? :S

*spoilers* Can we stick the review in this thread pl
Youre saying the involvement of the house robots nearly made a fight unfair? Well, thats never happened before. :-)
Being pinned against a wall has always seemed to be a grey area, though - see Chaos 2 vs SMIDSY in season 5, and Chaos 2 vs Tornado in Extreme (1). Storm were clearly running at the time they left Supernova on the wall, though, so its clear Ed was under the impression that theyd won and left Supernova alone.
Since they seemed to be running at the end, too, what was going on when Shunt was attacking? Ed - were you just waiting for the end of the fight only to have Shunt attack you while you werent looking, or what? Very strange.
Ill shut up and let the official reviewers do their bit, but Im looking forward to hearing from the roboteers - and I want to say well done to everyone, a most entertaining championship!

Supernova vs Spartacus vs Hard
A small pile up started immediately as Supernova attacked Spartacus, bounced off, cliping Hard as it did so. Spartacus took a big shot, and kept going. Hard took a small clip and died... Supernova isnt the ONLY one with reliability issues, methinks. Anyway, Spartacus could have grabbed Supernova with that nice claw, but Supernova didnt seem to want o let it and so the bigger machine took a lot of blows... Then Spartacus was going around in circles, but Supernova seemed stuck and it looked like itd be counted out! However, a shock didnt happen as Supernova recovered, only to become stuck again a little later. It looked to me as if Supernova could move, or have the disc spinning, but couldnt do both. Very odd. Twas a good opening battle anyway:)
Winner: Supernova
Crustacian vs Pulveriser vs Snakebite
OK. Piercey called Snakebite Razer-esque... That doesnt mean you have to go and break down, Snakey!:proud: The dutch champs weapon then died for some reason, so Crustacian could easily shove it around. However thanks to Pulverisers shape, Crustacian didnt seem able to grip it... Then Snakebite, after being counted out, started moving and attacking Crustacian. Now I hought this was bang out of order... Snakebite was gone, and wouldnt go through no matter what they did, so why go for someone who still had a chance and potentially cause them problems later on?
Winner: Crushtacian
Tornado vs Ansgar 3 vs Storm 2
sarcasmTwo English robots ganging up on the German. I didnt expect that!!/sarcasm:proud:
Well, Ansgars weapon soon died, along with the robot when it went over a flame pit. Big shame, because in its qualifier it looked lethal:sad: So, German disposed of, it was a Tornado vs Storm 2 rematch. Tornado was on top for a while though as Storm was shoved into Dead Metal who... Made some sparks, and took some paint off. Scary. Thn Storm 2 came back and proceeded to come back where it left off in series 7... Battering Tornado everywhere. Tornado WAS on top for longer though, so the decision kinda surprised me. That and Storm 2 took damage, even if it was only to the paintwork.
Winner: Storm 2
Tough as Nails vs Typhoon 2 vs Rawbot
Well, due to battery failiure Typhoon 2 failed to make the arena which kinda sucked as its a cool machine... And rawbot didnt last long with TANs efficient grab and pit technique.
Winner: Tough as nails
Supernova vs Crushtacian
Crustacian drives forwards trying to stop the disc, takes a huge blow on the front which also takes something off one of the claws, which practically kills it off in one hit. Then Supernova hits it again and um...
*Goes into Salesman mode*
Crab sticks, get your crab sticks here! Tinned crab sticks, who wants em?:proud:
Winner: Supernova
Storm 2 vs Tough as Nails
Tough as Nails grabbed Storm 2 and got shoved everywhere... Which wasnt helped when a tyre came off. Then a while later Storm 2 was trying to pit Tough as Nails, and things got interesting... Could Tough as Nails reverse and pull Storm 2 down the pit? The answer turned out to be no as the odd shaped machine wanished down the hole:sad: Fight of the night anyways.
Winner: Storm 2
Storm 2 vs Supernova
A slight rehash of the series 7 grand final as Supernova hit Storm 2 a few times with the flywheel and got rammed around a few times... Then Supernova ended up on the wall and the dreaded C-word takes over. First off, Storm 2 then gets stacked by Shunt before Supernova is righted by Refbot. This is, were told, what normally happens as stacking a robot doesnt count as immobolising it. Then Supernova takes a pop at Storm and rights that, but it ends up on its back and cant push Supernova well at all, who gets some more hits in. Now... Based on what we saw I thought Supernova should have won... But the fight seemed waaaaaay too short for a 5-minute fight, so Im guessing a lot was edited out. Because of this, Im refusing to call if the fight was right or wrong, but these stacking double stamdards HAVE to stop.
Winner: Storm 2
So... Well done Ed and the rest of team Storm. If you could fill us in on what was missed, Id be very grateful.

I heard that Tsunami where told stacking Xt was not enough to win the fight, which is why they tried to flip them out
But...
I think it was correct of Refbot to right Supernova
I think I saw in the backround Storm II attacking Shunt first
I think Supernova should have won, though Storm II should not have been left on the side like it was. Bad luck that they ended up wrong way up but wrong that they where kept at the side. Hope that makes sense.
-
*spoilers* Can we stick the review in this thread pl
I didnt agree with that decision, Storm 2 did not push Supernova around and it was hitting Storm a lot even if it was cosmetic, I thought Stacking was not enough for a win and if so then Storm were stacked for quite a while as well
-
*spoilers* Can we stick the review in this thread pl
Hmm, interesting comments guys. I feel that on the basis on what has been said the decision seems less concrete. The curious thing is that after watching the fight I do not know if Supernova was stacked. The gyroscopic forces of the disk resulted in the robot being thrown off balance after Storm II got a lucky hit on the left side.
How long was Storm II up against the wall?
-
*spoilers* Can we stick the review in this thread pl
Storm 2 didnt stack Supernova...
Supernova stacked itself :)
-
*spoilers* Can we stick the review in this thread pl
Well this is my view of what happened:
1st round
We were in control of the fight, one hit on hard was enough to damage their batteries and they were immobilized. Spartacus took a lot of damage but still had drive to one side. We had by then lost a blade, that had unbalanced the disc causing the robot to vibrate. The vibrations caused a battery lead to snag and wear away its sheath. This grounded with the chassis and caused the robot failsafe. We found that if we slowed the disc, the robot vibrated less. There was then no arcing between the chassis and the robot worked normally. Was a close fight, but we took minimal damage, lucky to go through though.
2nd round
The fight against crushtacean was a worrying one as we had worries about the batteries failing. When crushtacean drove into us, we smashed their gear box housing and they lost drive to one wheel. We knew we wouldn€™t have much time before the next fight to charge our batteries so we backed away once we knew crushtacean were having problems.
3rd round
We were not looking forward to this fight, we had no time to recharge our batteries since the crushtacean fight. We also had sheared some bolts on the blades and had around 1hr to get everything ready. My driving in this fight wasn€™t the best, we lost one blade from the disc early on in the fight when we got a good hit on storm. I€™m not sure how we ended up in the arena wall, think it was more down to the large gyroscopic forces of the disc then storm 2. Anyway, storm went to fight with shunt who propped then against the arena wall as well. The Refbot knocked us off the wall, and we in turn knocked storm of the wall to continue the fight. Now that storm was upside down, we could do a lot more damage. What was not shown in the coverage was that, 2 of the 3 titanium panels at the front of storm had been torn away. We had some good hits on storm, eventually immobilizing them. The judges decided the storm had won the fight when we were propped against the wall and so gave the fight to them. The fight was a good one, wish they had showed more of us hitting storm when they were upside down. Think it was a dodgy decision, think the judges owed storm from a certain previous fight€¦

The decition was right. For me, its was Storm, Storm, Storm. All of Supernovas attacks were deflected, and Supernova had hardly any control whatsoever. Shunt shouldnt have attacked Storm (or at least put it in THAT kinda position) and Refbot should have counted Supernova out.

This episode suffered from heavy editing. It probably has to do with the extra match that had to be squeesed in.
There could have been some great interviews with Elvis and his fans (guess who those where :) ) and the match between TAN and storm II lasted a good deal longer. If asked I will deny our team sang I did it my way during the you lost-interview.
Too bad.
Other than that, congratulations to team Storm. Finals are always controversial, in the end I think they deserve it.

The Fight Spartacus/Supernova/Hard was the last straw for the builders of Hard. After this they trew away the 32V 12Ah Cyclon packs they used.
Again one of those failed.
On the other side, the armor ,only 4mm chrome/titanium steel 316ti took everything that Supernova dished out.
And Spartacus, they had thesame problems as Crustecean, a smashed gearbox.
For the Rawbot/TAN fight, after the first grab it was game over for the Swedes, as the claw ripped the wires from the recieverbox clean off, and displaced the Bosch750.
I must admit, the chainretentionsystem those swedish engineers use is so simple and sturdy that the chain was still on the sprocket even the motor was inches displaced.

Evening all - well from where we were sitting watching the show I wasnt sure they were showing the fight that we were in ! There was some fairly hefty editing work going on somewhere along the way, to what end Im not sure. Well get a write up on the site asap, along with the remaining writeups from Series 7.
Yes there was some very dodgy editing. No the Tornado/Storm II fight was no-where near as close as it looked - the fight went on long after we turned them over for more Series 7 encounter flying Tornado. The finals were even stranger, Ill explain what happenned in the write up when we get them on, but it ranged from being told beforehand wed be disqualified for causing excessive arena damage if we rammed Supernova into the walls..... to some rather curious house robot behaviour that resulted in a b*llocking afterwards from a member of production !
Still, fantastic to win the World Champs, from New Blood on BBC2 to World Champs on Channel 5 I think is under a year :) Well get the writeups online as soon as we can for this, and for the Semis and the Series 7 finals.
.... and for the record, weve challenged the previous World Champions twice to take us on, and both times theyve declined the challenge

It was right Storm 2 won, absolutely no question about it. They were in control for most of the fight and most of what i saw was supernova being shoved about and doing minimal damage to storm 2, but i couldnt help to notice that the end of storm 2s lifting arm was removed totally after it was upside down.
However, it was clear that Supernova had lost due to it being immobile on the wall for a good deal longer than 10 seconds. Should have been a KO, but that would have been too easy.
Well donme storm, i hope this makes up the judges decision you undeservedly lost against Typhoon.
However, Storm won this fight because:
1) Supernova were Kod. On the wall for more than 10 seconds not moving equals a lose. Storm were unfairly stacked by shunt and so this doesnt count. You have to be stacked by your opponent (or yourself).
2) Storm 2 owned the fight on control. Supernova were busy doing the vibrating jobbie whilst Storm 2 was darting into their opponent.
3)Storm 2 was more stylish having not killed itself on the wall.
4)Aggression was all storm who took the fight literally to supernova.
5)Storm 2 deserved a decision in their favour after the Typhoon incident.
P.S.
1)Is Hard the most unreliable robot ever? Besides flippa of course.
2)Storm 2 V TAN was an amazing fight.

You have contradicted yourself here. You claim firstly that Supernova was immobile - it appears that stacking does not constitute to immobilisation - as you later state that You have to be stacked by your opponent (or yourself) - in the case of Supernova did it not stack itself?
The immobilisation period is also not 10 seconds it is 30 seconds - just that the final 10 seconds are counted out loud for the kiddies ;) This is irrelevant as Supernova should have been freed as Storm II was freed, rather kindly by the competitor and not the house robot.
My mind has been changed after reading the posts here. IMO if a robot is up against the wall really it should be considered to be immobile. However, as stacking does not constitute to immobilisation in an ideal world Supernova would have been freed as Storm II was.

Pity Ed, cos Razer V Storm is one fight id love to see. Perhaps theyll meet up on my fantasy battlebots and robot wars section in fan fiction on this forum.
Heres my reviews:
Fight 1
Hard V Supernova V Spartacus
A good melee, hard took some damage and immediately broke down , then it got serious when spartacus showed some toughness and refused to die. It took multiple big hits and lived, but the wheels got jammed on one side and it could only turn in circles. Then supernova backed away and seemed to break down. The refbot began the count but then...supernova back from the dead!! And back to wreck spartacus some more. But then controversy as supernova failed for a second time and spartacus kept on twitching, some think they should have had it but on the basis of damage supernova deserved to go through.
Fight 2
Pulverizer V Crushtacean V Snakebite
Pulverizer started strongest as it caused damage to crustacean and snakebite just broke down early. Crushtacean fought back and then took control and pushed the Dutch machine about at will. Then Snakebite came to life and stupidly attacked Crushtacean, who deservedly took the judges decision.
Fight 3
Tornado V Storm 2 V Ansgar 3
The big German posed problems for the pushers who both couldnt seem to shove it about, but thankfully the German was pitted by a dual assault, after the weapon broke down early on. Then it was a rematch between the boxes and Storm seemed to win on power alone, despite taking damage. A good melee.
Fight 4
Tough as Nails V Rawbot V (Typhoon 2)
This would have been very interesting had Typhoon 2 turned up, as it was it was over very quickly as Tough as Nails broke Rawbot early on. Then...the pit!
Round 2
Fight 1
Supernova V Crushtacean
Seemed to be close at first as crushtacean came out very aggresively, but then after taking a massive hit stopped on one side. Then a claw was broke and game over. The house robots came in and done some major damage to crushtaceans shell which was a shame as i thought they could have done very well.
Fight 2
Storm 2 V Tough as Nails
In the most entertaining fight of the lot, it was clear that TAN would struggle when faced with the superior push of the Storm, who shoved the Dutch everywhere and broke off the wheel and bent the axle. TAN were spirited though, and despite being shoved about, did not give up, and got some good grabs on Storm 2. But this is what they wanted, and used one of these to edge TAN into the pit. But it got interesting when TAN wouldnt fit easily and for a moment it looked like Storm might go down. But they got traction on the floor and, irony of ironies, TAN in the pit!
FINAL
Supernova V Storm 2
Both had their scares getting here, so it promised to be interesting...
Storm started stronger when aggressive and got some good slams on Supernova. But they didnt give up and storm took some pusihment. Then Supernova were immobilised on the wall after a deflection from Storm 2 and should have been counted out. Storm thought them dead and attacked shunt, but then they got stacked on the wall. So, controversy. The Refbot freed supernova but not Storm 2, who were knocked off the wall by supernova. Then Storm finished stronger and rammed into supernova repeatedly. The judges went for Storm 2.
WORLD CHAMPION: Storm 2. Congrats.

MC, i am not suggesting any impartiality was afoot but my personal view is that after the Typhoon decision Storm 2 deserved to have one go their way, even if it was a little contraversial. Thats my personal view, you dont have to have it yourself. You may notice in RW a history of judges giving a robot that had previously lost a judges close decisions in the future.
Also, stacking, whilst not my favourite thing, does seem in most cases to constitute an immobilisation. Case in point was Mean Streak V SMIDSY earlier this series, when mean streak was counted out after a typical stacking. I can see your view though, stacking appears to be a definite grey area.
I have to agree though, when 2 robots are freed its best - more fight action!

1)Is Hard the most unreliable robot ever? Besides flippa of course.
I think that little attack on Hard is a pretty unjust comment. If youll remember, it made it through Round 1 of its UK Heat quite comfortably, and the same goes for its WC qualifier with Riptilion.
Besides, with a 2-2 record in 1 UK War, Hard has had a better combat record than a great deal of other machines that have competed over the years.
Also, has anyone noticed that in all the big international events in RW, the British have won virtually every one? I sense another conspirasy theory :proud:

balth_dire from five forum.
The fight ended whilst storm 2 was on its back, but at the live filming, the fight was still on, and storm 2 was flipped back by supernovas disc hitting him. A bit later one powerful slam from supernovas disc knocked a wedge panel of storm 2, immobilising storm 2 as well. Storm 2 was then counted out, but because supernova was stuck on the wall for more than 30 seconds, he lost.
Also, I described the judges decision as pathetic because supernova was unlucky, and he KOed storm 2 at the live filming. Also storm 2 was slightly the favourite, so in my opinion, supernova did a great job, but were really, really unfortunate.

This happened twice in the 4th war, with Firestorm and Stinger both winning a controversial decison and then losing one in a later fight to make up for it. (Firestorms was possibly coincidental and/or result of editing, but Stingers definitely wasnt)

-
*spoilers* Can we stick the review in this thread pl
I cant comment on the first 2, as I didnt see them. But...
Big Brother vs Ultor-Wrong decision
You DONT lose a fight that you are dominating just because your weapon broke off (but it didnt matter in the end, cos Ultor gave the win away)
Darke Destroyer vs T2-Wrong
As The Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons might have said...Worst. Decition. Ever
King B vs 101-Correct
101 was clearly dominating for me
Gravedigger vs Stegosaurus-Correct (just)
It was really lots of OK attacks from Steggy and only 2 or 3 Good attacks from Gravedigger, so there you go.
Hypno-disc vs 101-Correct
It was close, but I think Hypno deserved it
Firestorm vs Bolt from the Blue-Wrong
Suspicious. Bolt got under Firestorm all the time, and never the reverse
Firestorm vs Dominator 2-Correct
Dominator caused damage. Nuff said.
Stinger vs Bulldog Breed vs Spikeasaurus-Correct
But it was so close, it was anyones guess
Stinger vs Panic Attack-Wrong
Even my Dad agreed that PA should have won.
Stinger vs Chaos 2-Correct
I was still angry about Stingers win over PA, I really didnt CARE if the judging was dodgy, just so long as it lost!!! And it DID. HOORAY!!!
Mortis vs Panic Attack-Correct
See Gravedigger vs Stegosaurus
Wild Thing vs Trouble and Strife-Unsure
It was too close to decide here. It could have gone either way
Wild Thing vs Prizephita MK2-No comment
I KNEW Wild thing would win, but it was still dodgy as PPMK2 did all the attacking till the end.
13 Black vs Corkscrew-Correct, but dodgy
13 Blacks weapon broke down, Corkscrew was still spinning, and had more control. But I liked 13 Black
13 Black vs X-terminator-Definatly Wrong!
What the...Corkscrew wasnt spinning and all the damage XT took was from Shunt!
Razer vs Firestorm-Possibly Wrong
I thought Firestorm might have snagged it, but it was so close.
Diotoir and Pussycat vs Steel Avenger and Suicidal Tendencies-Correct
All these excuses of ST did ALL the work and Pussycat did NOTHING!. But you could also say Ditoir did all the work and SA did nothing. And when the cat was in trouble, Dio attacked ST, but when SA was attacked, ST did NOTHING. Bad teamwork.
Rest Later.

Dominator 2 vs SMIDSY-Correct
Dominator started off the weak one maybe, but it came back very strongly towards the end, and I think SMIDSY caught fire.
Dominator 2 vs Hydra-Correct
See above. Hydras shell suffered a bit there
Razer vs Tornado-Correct
I dont know how many times Ive mentioned this, but Tornado won fairly. He was bashing Razer EVERYWHERE and he was NOT in the pit; Razer was holding him over, it doesnt count. And, like I said, the stats given were of Tornado with the cage attached. This is something brilliant, and you guys call it cheating? HOY!
Mute vs Cedric Slammer-Correct
As Mute got the best attack in before both robots broke down, it HAD to go for Mute.
(Mind you, staying WITH Cedric Slammer, I cant believe that JP thought that Pressure would beat it. The attacks were made by CS clearly, not Pressure, and the HRs had no right to attack him. JP is HOPELESS!)
Mute vs Storm 2-Correct
See Gravedigger vs Stegosaurus, or Mortis vs Panic Attack. Storm was always attacking, Mute only got 2 good flips in
Grim Reaper vs Big Nipper-Cant call
It was so close, I didnt mind WHO went through.
Mantis vs Kat 3-Correct
Letting Go? Kat 3 was TRYING to attack again JP, HONESTLY!!! Kat 3 got all the good attacks in for me.
Mute vs Judge Shred 3-DEFINATLY WRONG!!!
OH COME ON!!! JUDGE SHRED WAS DOING ALL THE ATTACKING, AND THEY GIVE IT TO MUTE BECAUSE IT DOES SOME SILLY AEROBICS. THATS NOT THE NAME OF THE GAME BOYS!!!
Robochicken vs Tough as Nails-Unsure again
Again, too close. The Dutch have seriously improved though.
Storm 2 vs Typhoon 2-only JUST correct, but no real comment.
I knew Typhoon would win to begin with, but many people are complaining it was wrong. Well, Ill tell you now, IT WASNT! Remember, Damage takes it, and Typhoon did the only damage out there that was VISIBLE! It was really close though.
And also
Robochicken Evo vs Crushtacean-Correct
Ok, RCE DID push Crush into the CPZ, but dont forget that Crush also did the same thing to RCE.
So there you go.

Well done ed and the rest of team storm
i sadly missed it (make sure you set the VCR BEFORE the girlfriend comes over!) although i have been able to get a rough idea of the battles from the reviews on this thread.
why is it that that c word always has to appear in our sport? Although i guess it does make it a little more interesting.
Its a shame we werent able to take part as i wouldve loved a rematch in the world champ final but thats roboteering.
Once again well done ed and a rematch sometime would be interesting :)

There was total confusion as to what was going on after the fight. No-one seemed to quite know what was happenning.
Turns out that Refbots counter didnt work when they went to count out Supernova stuck on the side wall and production didnt really know what to do ! Shunt was busy playing with us (which didnt bother us as we believed wed won at that point) in the meantime it was decided that the fight would have to go on so Mentorn could get the footage they needed to close the fight - hence Refbot suddenly going in to free Supernova after so long stuck on the wall.
The problem was by this point wed been stacked by Shunt and turned over.... and Shunt hadnt let us go by the time Supernova came over ! In the end Supernova was stuck on the side wall immobile for over 60 seconds - not that you ever saw that on TV.....
All that resulted was a farce sadly which turned a fight (which up until Refbots counter failed) seemed like an efficient win to us  As I said before, a real shame, and a cloud over the last Robot Wars episode
