Formula 1 and Other Motorsport 2006
humm... interesting :)
2kg of rubber is a lot to loose, wonder how legal they were at the end? schumachers were balder than right said fred. As far as I know, nobody has been disqualified recently for overbald tyres. (overbald??)
thanks for the info, very surprised but makes perfect sence.
As to freezing engine specs...
How about capping revs and introducing air restrictors? By far the best way to cap power and reduce costs (cost increases exponentially with revs) oh wait, toro rosso have this alread. What was wrong with rev limited v10s and restrictors i dont know, they must be cheaper than 20,000rpm v8s

Well another WRC event down and another event closer to Wales Rally GB. Ive got tickets for the Friday and it should be fun, ill be in support of the big names and the top Brit in the field, Matthew Wilson. A few questions for you guys to think about ahead of next weekend. Will Jenson Button add another F1 race winners trophy to his cabinet? Will Lewis Hamilton sew the GP2 title before Nelson Piquet Jnr catches him? All the answers and more in Turkey next week.
Formula 1 and Other Motorsport 2006
Well Istanbul saw a new winner in both F1 & GP2 but while the new winner, Felipe Massa, celebrates, plenty of thought is afoot on Schueys future. Also the GP2 title looks like it will go to the final round at Monza but who will take it, Lewis Hamilton or Nelson Piquet Jnr?
F1 Top 8 Istanbul
1: Massa (Collects maiden win on start no.67)
2: Alonso (Jumps Schuey at 1st stop and hangs on to 2nd by 1/10th of a second!!)

4: Button (Strong start leads to a quiet but well deserved 4th. Glad to see he trimmed his facial hair!!)
5: de la Rosa (Takes 1 stopper to claim 5th)
6: Fisichella (Recovers from turn 1 spin to claim points)

Formula 1 and Other Motorsport 2006
More F1 news, the new provisional 2007 F1 calendar was unveiled today, which saw the Nurburgring & San Marino GP at Imola dropped. But of course, there is an uncertainty as to the venue for the German GP. Therefore no 2nd races in a country next year (potentially) but itll be sad if Imola is dropped, ah well, but another classic returns to the calendar, yup, SPA IS BACK!!
2007 Provisional F1 Calendar
March 18: Albert Park, Australia
April 8: Sepang, Malaysia
April 15: Sakhir, Bahrain
May 13: Catalunya, Spain
May 27: Monaco
June 10: Montreal, Canada
June 17: Indianapolis, USA
July 1: Magnys Cours, France
July 8: Silverstone, Britain
July 22: Hockenheim or Nurburgring, Germany
August 5: Hungaroring, Hungary
August 26: Istanbul, Turkey
September 9: Monza, Italy
September 16: Spa, Belguim
September 30: Shanghai, China
October 7: Mount Fuji, Japan
October 21: Interlagos, Brazil
What are your thoughts to the provisional calendar?
Formula 1 and Other Motorsport 2006
Dont quite think the race in Japan is up Mount Fuji :lame: Might be a bit tricky! Will be good to see a new track even at the expense of Suzuka.
German race has got to be Hockenheim. Now one of the best tracks in F1( behind Spa of course!)
Formula 1 and Other Motorsport 2006
Another talking point. Turkey might (and I say might) be removed from the calendar after political controversy at the recent Turkish GP. Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali, who presented the winners trophy to Felipe Massa on the podium, was introduced as the president of the Turkish Cypriot state. Now it all sounds complex and it is, so here are a couple of insight articles from GrandPrix.com which explain: http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns17371.htmlhttp://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns17371.html
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns17372.htmlhttp://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns17372.html
Also an interesting WRC talking point on the Stobart VK Ford which I read in last weeks Motorsport News, the team is looking for an established driver to partner Matthew Wilson through the season finale, Wales Rally GB, instead of relying on 1 of their 4 No.2 drivers. Heres a quick summary of the teams No.2s and the events theyve done with the team so far plus future 2006 rounds.
Pieter Tsjoen (Monte Carlo)
Luis Perez Companc (Sweden, Mexico, Argentina, Italy. To do: Japan, Cyprus, Turkey, Australia & New Zealand)
Kosti Katajamaki (Sweden, Italy, Greece, Finland. To do: Turkey)
Jari Matti Latvala (Spain, France, Germany. To do: Unknown)
Now just to add my thoughts on this, either Stobart Ford could bring back Colin McRae (just to clear up anyone who wouldve jumped to the wrong conclusions, im not suggesting that he is involved, ITS JUST MY OWN THOUGHTS OK) Mark Higgins (he won the 2005 British Rally Championship with the team) or use Jari Matti Latvala because he has British rallying experience having competed in the 2003 British Rally Championship. What are your thoughts on these topics?

So much news today. The biggest of which is that Michael Schumacher IS GOING TO RETIRE at the end of this year. Michael has had a good career (even with the odd controversial moment), 7 world titles, 90 race wins and 66+ poles. I admit Ive seldom been a Schuey fan but even I was reduced to tears when the announcement came through. Ferrari confirmed Felipe Massa & Kimi Raikkonen as their driver line-up for 2007.
Also Lewis Hamilton sewn up the GP2 title after a stewards inquiry saw Giorgio Pantanos Saturday fastest lap annulled owing to the Italian setting that lap under a yellow flag.
Dutch car manufacturer Spyker confirmed this morning they had bought the Midland F1 team. Spyker also confirmed that ex-Toyota technical director Mike Gasgoyne will join the team. But of course this announcement was overshadowed heavily by the news of Schumachers future.
Enough news, F1 & GP2 results.
