Middle Weight Competition?
Hey, Do you think its possible to get some sort of MW competition going? I know that with there only been a few MW robots about we wouldnt be able to have competitions in the same format as they do with the FW champs and HW champs, But we should have somthing right?
I was thinking about something like a championship that can change hands throughout the year rather than it been decided at just 1 event a year. A little like the Robot Wars challenge Belt competition but without the 3 wins and you keep it part.
All we would need to ask is that we get a slot in the live shows. Just 1 slot in a live show every month or 2.
What do you think?
Cheers

Middle Weight Competition?
hmm, good idea!
I would be interested in entering!
-
Middle Weight Competition?
i think thats a great idea:)
i would like to one day move up from feather weights and make a heavy weight but i would like to make a middle weight before that.
yeah----if you win the fight you keep the trophy or belt and if you loose you give it to the other robot.
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Yeah, Hopefully we will be able to sort somthing out early next year, Just gotta see what the event organisers think to it. Maybe try get the first championship fight at the Barnsley Bash at the Metrodome in feb.

Middle Weight Competition?
trouble is numbers of middleweights
there are 3 running that i know of, Tanto Jnr, Maxus and Voodoo
cant do a championship with that few really, theres a few being built but Feb would be too soon to start a competition
-
Middle Weight Competition?
well we were going to make one, but because theres not any competitions just for middleweights we decided not to. If there was a competition started, even if there were only a few in it it might encourage other people to get involved.
just my theory ;-)
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Yea, I hope more people get involved, Even when theres a few more middles, its going to be hard to decide on an event that most of us can make. Thats why i thought the championship that could change hands would be a good idea. That way u only need 2 MW bots to show up. I was just thinking if there only every couple of month for now there should be some new middles about by the time the current active middles have battled.

Or, depending on how many MWs there are, have a rumble with that many, then whoever wins, gets the cup/belt.
Plus, we cant make Barnsly, mainly for the fact our bots arnt finished yet!
Our MW has been planned for construction after the colchester event, with Hunter (And hopefully BrilliANT 2)

Middle Weight Competition?
how heavy are middleweights?
-
Middle Weight Competition?
55kg top limit
I can fit a middleweight rumble in Rebel Robots, does make some sense, Tom me and Tony can all take our middles and have the first of a championship that Tom has come up with
i think the term is a ladder style, use a rumble to sort the order then you can start a ladder and any newcomers over the year just get added to the bottom of the ladder
similar to how boxing works you up for that Tom?

Middle Weight Competition?
Sounds like a good idea!
Maybe at the end of a year, the robot who wins the cup/belt the most gets another kind of award, one to keep for as long as the team like.
So, lets say that:
Toms MW wins 5 times
Craigs wins 4 times
Tonys wins 4 aswell
And mine wins 2 (Lets say!)
Then Tom would get the final award.
But, if 2 robots draw at the top, then 1 final fight could be added.
What do you think?
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Yeah could do, so it would basicly be the top ranked MW at the end of the year would get an seperate award.
We will have to decide what type of award we are going to have for the ladder style competition. Could be a verbal title, a certificate, a plaque, a trophy or whatever. What you guys think?
-
Middle Weight Competition?
that sounds fine, the achivement should be for the top ranked robot so the only robot that gets a title is the one who finishes at the top, but awards for most wins etc is a great idea gives everyone something to aim for
would you guys allow me to make the trohpy or belt, which ever people prefer? I wont make it a rebel robots trophy/belt itll be more of an FRA award that way any Event can hand out the award
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Yeh, Make whatever you thinks best. I made a trophy out of car and bike engine and gearbox parts for a present for a guys birthday that races with my dad. It looked pretty cool but took ages trying to make it not look like a stack of engine bits.
What are we actually calling this championship?
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Well, i would offer to call it Wild Robots, (the name of my series on You Tube) but that might be something for when im older.
Wild Middle Weights?
-
Middle Weight Competition?
it would need to be neutral so all event organisers can take the championship to any event so something like FRA Middleweight Leauge
or FRA Middleweight Championship
I think a belt sounds cool
-
Middle Weight Competition?
-
Middle Weight Competition?
FRA Middleweight Championship belt it is then eh?
-
Middle Weight Competition?
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Just gotta get maxus working again now. It will be just a rambot for a while. Hopefully ill get the 4 bar done after a few events.
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Lol seems like there has always been a problem getting the middleweights fighting in this country. Way back in the day it took some real hard work to get robot wars to host a middleweight championship at extreme 2.
The funny thing is that the middleweight field had a greater diversity of machines than any other.
Good luck guys, I may come along with a middle in the future if they pick up.

If u want it to happen make it happen:)
The more people that take the risk and just dive into the MW class the more chance it has of becoming popular. The chance of it becoming as popular as FWs and HWs is very unlikely, but is that a bad thing?
Middles are perfect for people who want to move up from a feather but cant build a heavy for whatever reason. Like with me if i did want to build a HW, i dont want to but if i did i would have no way of transporting a heavy to events so heavys would be ruled out for me so that would make a middle perfect for me..

well well have at least one middle comp at Rebel Robots maybe when the other Event organisers announce their events for 09 we can have maybe 10 set events where we can run the MW championships
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Gary building a Middleweight, theres a scary thought:uhoh:
-
Middle Weight Competition?
I would love a HW, but due to money and space, we cant.
So, a MW is the best option for us.
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Maxus takes up less room than Hooligan one of my FWs
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Tanto HW takes up less space than Tanto Jnr MW
-
Middle Weight Competition?
because tanto jnr is massive..craig doesnt know how to make them small :P
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Ive got 4 Wheelchair motors that are suitable for middleweights open to offers
Dave- atleast my lid stays on when i hit another robot :proud: ;)
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Hey thats my lid your talking about. Ill use more tape to hold it on
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Got the BEC in Maxus now, so just gotta stick one of the wheels in the lathe and turn it down a little then get a new lid made or drill this one off and bolt it down, stick a few charging jacks in so i can charge it, clean it up an little and maybe slap a bit of paint on it then i should be good to go.
-
Middle Weight Competition?
lol craig - when we had that fight and the lid fell off..you couldnt even drive urse due to not having a working tx :)
+ was a temporary lid. Im sure Tom will make a proper one to fit perfectly in due time.
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Whow many middles should we have by the end of next year? whos actually building one? I might build another if i get time but that will be mid to late next year, will be more of a fun robot than a serious fighting machine.
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Im 50% confident on making a MW next year.
-
Middle Weight Competition?
My heavyweight can be converted into a middle weight.
We were discussing that our latest cheap wheel chair heavy can be converted to middle weight by going to lighter armor and changing to less battery power.
We are at 40kg without a weapon and armor. We might be able to save 5kg from lighter batteries. So 20 kg in armor plates should be enough.
Tom I wouldnt build another middle weight, unless your knocking one together cheaply from unused parts. Kinda what im doing I guess.
-
Middle Weight Competition?
I just want somthing cheap to battle against in my own garden. somthing a bit fun.
-
Middle Weight Competition?
Any ideas for this Belt yet Craig?
