Esc
Hi All
We are just building our first featherweight and wanted a little bit of advice as only just starting out.
We have followed the same route as many by using 18V drill motors and also the huge batteries that come with the drill. watching some of the online videos have been really helpful! 2 quick questions
1. Could anyone recommend a good ESC (not too expensive but one that will do the job and last)
2. Any suggestions on the best LIPO battery to use as the drill batteries are not only huge but very very heavy!
Many thanks
Jon

ESC I would suggest a tz 85a, modded to work with brushed motors, light, cheap (if you mod them yourselves) rock solid and populer.
When it comes to batteries use the drill ones for now, and learn a bit more about Lipo's from other threads

Hey there, welcome to the forum!
Are these drill motors brushed (so the motor only has positive and negative wires for them) or brushless (so the motor has three wires coming out of them)? As mentioned, if you can get a hold of some TZ85As (https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-...w-5a-sbec.html), they are the ones to get at the moment.

Hi
They are brushed motors (I am glad you told me how to differentiate between them though as would not have known!!!)
Many thanks for the recommendations - really appreciated

Seems as though everywhere is out of stock on these. Would a tunigy Plusg 25A 5.6-16.8V ESC
do?

or the 60amp equivalent?

both off those ESC are brushless (3 motor wires) i don't know if the could be modded, Ranglebox (Ellis shop) has 3 tz 85a in stock, they are pre modded and are ready to go.

I think, off the top of my head, the 12A Plush can be modified to run brushed, not sure about the higher amperages. If you are not confident in reprogramming speed controllers like this, then yeah, the pre-modded option would be the way to go on this.

If you're willing to wait a week or so, the new FeatherTwo ESCs should be back in stock.

Thanks for all your advice!!!
Let me know where the FeatherTwo ESC can be purchased form and how much and I'll also take a look at the Ranglebox website.
Cheers

IBF 4.2 or 4.5 fits the bill perfectly.
