dont u think u shoudl start with a ant weight or do u want to go straight to fw
This is speaking personally but go for feathers. Even though ants are cheaper I find them very awkward to work with, but that's probably coz I'm clumsy
nothing wrong with starting out with featherweights
i dident say there were xD
It depends who you are really - some people (like me, heh) are naturally antweight builders and some are naturally focused towards the bigger robots - you just need to find out which one you are, and it in no way precludes you from building any other size robot in addition to the ones you like :)
tthanks for comments but plz read want i have posted
we have, and a couple of peope have pointed you to a robot in the for sale section, which is now sold
i know bout that1 but my internet stopped working as we had a power cut so i couldnt bid for it
You may be able to convince someone to make a robot specially for you then you could get the design and weapon you want but not have the hastle of finding all the components
it would cost more that 200 quid
i could build you a robot, many people on this forum could. but you wouldn't learn as much/be proud of yourself as much than if you built your own from scratch.
All the info you need to make a robot is on this forum.
I mean EVERYTHING! All you gotta do is search around for it. A good place to look is in the Build diaries, good photos of the insides of people's robots and their sequence of building. If you start your own build thread then people can help you while you make yours.
hi guys i have been busy today and think this is a good idea
found on sight www.roamingrobots.co.uk 250g battle antz full kit, rc kit 2.4GHZ, 6.0v battery, 6.0v charger
found on sight www.robotmarketplace.com 4speed double gearbox- Tamiya 70168, JCConcepts Goose Bumper Bumps Tire 3.0 Slash/ Slayer/SC10Green
robotmarketpplzce is a USA Based so it is in dollars and will cost me a bit to ship to me in England
Those aren't really featherweight standard parts, and as the UK Antweight limit is 150g it's going to be very difficult to get them into an antweight too...you could buy the Battle Antz kit and play with it at RR events but it's not going to be allowed in World Series or any other event that enforces the rules (and from experience they're far from competitive anyway despite the 100g advantage, hehe)
Your best bet for a feather is really to build something yourself, with the parts available on the Robochallenge site it's not especially complicated or expensive, and as others have said you will learn far more from building a robot than buying one ready built. (the 'mini bots' kits look interesting, but I fear have the same drawbacks as the Battle Antz in being uncompetitive with actual antweights and too heavy)
There aren't many shortcuts in this sport I'm afraid, but that's part of the fun and makes it so much more satisfying at the end :)
dont bother with the battle antz
the link on the second takes me to the robot marketplace home page, but i found that tamyia gearboxes are
A: rubish
B: to heavy for an antweight
i disagree
a battle ant is a super antweight (250g), the motors and gearbox will be too underpowered for a featherweight.
here's what i'd suggest you buy to build a featherweight for under 200
2x 12v drill motors - £20
2x electronize 15 amp esc's - £65
1x vapextech 12v 3300mah - £20
2x robochallenge 100mm wheels with nut insert - £15
hdpe - about £30 for a robots worth
removable link powerlight screws etc - £10
decent charger and power supply - £25
total: £185
charger wise i'd suggest investing in a decent multi charger such as this turnigy one, it's not the greatest but it's cheap and it'll charge a 12v

edit: you beat me to it harry, when i said i disagree it was to him not you.

ahh, i get it, i had to read the first post again
tom, if you mean the battle antz kit, that will be know where near enough for a feather remember they are 13.6kgs
Don't bother with a kit. Your bot will be crap. Go read the build threads as recommended and build your own from scratch.
harry has got it do you know wat size it is
and how quick do u think i can go
and im a bit uncertain of buildin for own robot from sccrath get
and im a bit weary of buildin my own robot from scrath get
as someone who's name i can't remember said the best way to learn is by doing
Probably about 15cm long and 10 wide?
Can't stress enough what people are trying to get across to you though, if you are looking for a featherweight robot then the Battle Ant is not what you are looking for.
If you are very apprehensive about putting together a robot yourself then there will be featherweight robots coming up in the sale section at some point I am sure, either that or look into Harry's offer because then you will actually be able to compete properly with the robot whereas with a Battle Ant you will find that difficult.
kk thank you and do you think it will be fast
speed in mph
What to be fast? Your not clear on your question
they are very fast and have little grip. you know these are 250 gram robots right? featherweights are 13,600 grams!
DO YOU WANT A FEATHERWEIGHT OR A SUPER ANTWEIGHT?
or do u mean battle rat
There was no mention of a Battle Rat, lets not make the situation anymore complicated than the one that is being created here by saying that
The featherweight will be fairly quick I suppose, possibly even fairly competitive with some of the other feathers.
Well said!Quote:

im goin to put 15mm mild steel on it and try to put a small spinner on the back
Use hdpe it's a lot easier to work with than metal( as I'm finding out the hard way) for a first robot.
15mm mild steel? you do know the density of steel 7.8g/cm squared (and hdpe is 0.94g/cm squared). it will also be a pain to work with and more expensive than hdpe in that thickness. for a first robot i really wouldn't recommend building a spinner! they can only be used 3 times a year, also you won't be able to build one and stay within you £200 budget

Not even BonX used that thick a plate. Imagine a robot with a footprint of 250*200mm, 50mm high internaly.
Bottom/top plate alone would weight 12 kg. front and back plates 4.7 kg, sideplates 3.7 kg.
=20.4kg (in HDPE that's only 2.5 kg)
15mm thick steel, I don't even know any heavies that used that as main structural armor or frame. Spinners, as a weapon, yes, but that's about all.
squared? by your logic the thickness of the steel doesn't affect the weight as it is only two dimensions which are counted, you mean cubed! and i imagine that what he meant to write was 1.5mm thick mild steelQuote:
