team combat penguin build diarys
hello peoples of the internet, this is just the place for my teams build dairys, mainly me but jonny and co can use this too if they want :)
Murphy's Law (feather)
has been rebuilt since its last event (guilford) and is now made out of actual HDPE (12mm) not just ikea £3 chopping board, and 10mm thick polypro. it curranly has a scorpion xl running two argos 12v cheapy drills. the electronize is there to provide the BEC
the battery is a 12v 4000mah nimh. i am quite happy with the speed of it, with 100mm wheels i might up the voltage a little to give it a bit more ooompf.
some pictures of it here:

im going to add a weapon sometime as its just so light, i really want an axe they arent that effective but they sure are cool 8)
it only weighs 4.5kg so i need to start bolting hardox to it
any thoughts?

Re: team combat penguin build diarys
so you have an electronize in there just to provide the BEC? i thought xl/xxls had them in? or you could use a specific bec
looking good :)
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
the scorpion one is useless. whats a specific bec?
thanks :)
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
you could use a plug in bec such as the park bec: http://www.robochallenge.co.uk/Events_a ... onics.html
a bit pricy though, does the speed control on the electronize work?
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
nope, the other one does though
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
might aswell stick to using that then :)
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
the bec dosent work on that one though
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
 harry you should put an electric axe on murphys law so it would self right. or atleast bolt one to the back so it can do a thwackbot attack.
seeing as this is combat penguin build diaries i'll be putting the build diary for my new featherweight here. it shall be called giant electric eel, it is called this because i name all of my antweight flipper robots electric eel, seeing as this is a featherweight and much larger than an 150g antweight and it will also have a flipper weapon i am calling it giant electric eel :proud:
Name: Giant Electric Eel (or G.E.E for short)
Weapon: FP Flipper 50mm bore 100mm stroke ram. 0.65l buffer, 20oz main tank
Drive: speed 900's with 4.5:1 gearboxes onto 75mm wheels
Batteries: 2300mah 4 cell 13.2v a123 pack
Speedos: undecided- victors most likely
Armour: 10mm and 6mm hdpe
Chassis 10mm nylon 6 and 10mm hdpe
Radio Gear: dunno probably either dx6i or dx3e
ETC: 1-2 weeks before fw uk champs
pictures to come when stuff gets done, although i'm off on holiday for a couple weeks soon and need to get a lot of antweight stuff done for aws36 so work won't start for a while.

Thats the switching BEC I use, fairly cheap and weights pretty much nothing (21g) and can run at up to 40v. There is a cheap one of the same model that works up to 26v and weighs 3g less, but if you're bot is only weighing in at 4.5kgs you can probably afford the extra 3g of weight  . Saying that though, if the bot is only 4.5kgs you can probably afford the extra weight of that electronize providing the BEC.
Does the BEC not work on that one I gave you? A few people said that soldering new wires on might fix it, so might be worth a go.

Re: team combat penguin build diarys
yeah im going to replace it with a swich (on the one that does work motor control) so i can turn it off and on easyer

Re: team combat penguin build diarys
plastic arrived for giant electric eel today wrapped in about 6 killatonnes of bubblewrap, my cat enjoyed attacking it though. nylon was actually 12mm thick but oh well, free plastic for me :) spent the rest of the day watching scrubs and drinking mountain dew (ftw). hoping to do my shed i mean workshop's bi-yearly clean tomorrow, then maybe i'll have enough room to actually move about in it. i'm off on holiday for 2 weeks starting on the 5th, construction of giant electric eel shall begin then!
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
well i know what im doing tomorow them :?
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
you shall be rewarded with mountain dew and lemon james nesbit cake! :proud:
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
forgot to mention, i've also wired up my burkert valve and got it working :)

Re: team combat penguin build diarys
*Stares inquiringly at the space in your team where the clusterbot should be*
In other news, Scrubs > anything else

Re: team combat penguin build diarys
well harry decided he couldn't be bothered and decided to rebuild murphys law to make it featherweight weight, it is now something like 5kg and now isn't invertable and has no srimech. harry told me that you had made a start on your half but it then blew up or something and i heard no more about your part. i got mine working but then esc's broke also it had no wheels as it needed 125mm wheels. robochallenge said they could help me out with 125mm with nut insert wheels (this was before i knew how too make them myself) but then they decided/lost the ability to answer mine or harrys emails so dis-heartened i gave up on the cluster and featherweights altogether for a while. i've still got the chassis excluding lid in my shed though so it may make a return some day.
unfortunately my sister has decided to take scrubs box set to cyprus (even though it won't work on dvd players there  ) so no more scrubs for me for a few weeks :( i'm contemplating buying the lost 1-6 series box set for £60 as i do love lost

Re: team combat penguin build diarys
60?? its called youtube my friend...
mine did kinda...die, but im rebuilding it so, yeah! i was actually talking to the people behind the melty brain robots and i was thinking about building similar to that, but limit it to 500rpm for regular arenas and then max for the RC arena.
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
jack, you still want to do the cluster? saying murphy's law is the featherweight limit is like saying deodorant is the kilobot limit
bugger off jonny about the fact that its just so bad becuse its not invertable, it does have a selfrighting bit, its called asking people nicly to flip me back over, seems to work so far 8)
still got your stuff in my shed mate :)
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
Yeah i know, check your Youtube inbox matey!
And yeah, im definitely up for the featherweight cluster, how much does Murphy's law weigh again? If Jonny doesn't get his bit done we could enter it as a 2 part cluster for a bit until he gets his finished
Jack.

Re: team combat penguin build diarys
oh jonny has gone for a hardox and nylon full presure speed 900 driven feather so maybe a 2 way is on the cards, i could squeeze and active weapon in to it then :)
-
Re: team combat penguin build diarys
giant electric eel is top priority at the moment but i might make a drill motor powered cheapy esc'd little thing just for the hell of it, i'll see what you two come up with first though. i've got the parts for a crusher system that i might bolt onto the existing third of the cluster i have, i reckon i can get it in weight with with 6mm hdpe lid.
more to come on giant electric eel later, harry when it's done i'll flip you back upright although if it stays the weight it is don't blame me if it ends up hitting the roof. by the way i wasn't having a go mate i was just saying that it has a significant design flaw considering the amount of robots cabable of turning it over.

Re: team combat penguin build diarys
too late now i cut the top of murphy's law to make room for the self righter

Re: team combat penguin build diarys
ANTWEIGHT TIME!
cut out a new flipper blade for electric eel 3.5 after variant smashed the polycarb one at the last aws. the new one is made from 1mm titanium so fingers crossed it'll hold up better thn the old one. i also cut a new axe head for squidly didly from titanium. i also cut a steel ruler down to 5 inch, i'm hoping to use this as a blade on an overhead bar spinner antweight in future.
