Re: Robots in my home town!?
Hiya,
Sorry to say but we wont be there this year.
We have attended for the last 3 years, but this year we are giving it a miss as we are at another event.
Sorry
John

Re: Robots in my home town!?
What about the Norwich event? Is that not happening this year either?

Re: Robots in my home town!?
Next year?
What about Cambridge? It has a huge events scene, plenty of great venues and is full of engineers and engineer minded people. I think EO's would get a great turn out there.
Lots of people I talk to express an interest in attending events but there just aren't any in East Anglia.
Re: Robots in my home town!?
Yeh, loads of my Mates are interested in combat robots etc. And want to see an event, but I can't exactly take a bunch of people half way acros the country to see it... I know there has been events there in the past, I wouldn't even know about this website or the rules or anything if I hadent been to a live event for my birthday quiet a few years ago...
Re: Robots in my home town!?
Well we are always looking for new venues, if someone knows of one in their town let me know.
Needs to be an approx 32m x 32m sportshall, with seating for more than 500 tiered.
John.
Re: Robots in my home town!?
What about the UEA in Norwich? it went down well last year well
Re: Robots in my home town!?
rob has already asked about the uea, its a no because they are getting a new floor,
and the last thing they will want is robots being thrown about.
jonno did lynn sport in kings lynn in 2004, maybe that might be a possibility.
Re: Robots in my home town!?
Cambridge Corn Exchange?
http://www.cornex.co.uk/ccm/portal/
Cambridge has lots of venues (its a real live event hub) as well as plenty of sport halls.
Suffolk has the Apex in Bury st Edmunds which is trying desperately hard to attract young people with interesting events.
http://theapex.co.uk/
Although the main floor of the Apex isn't 32m square it has seating on higher tiers.
I don't know Ipswich that well, nor Norwich.
Re: Robots in my home town!?
hmmm we could do it in woodbridge town hall...

Re: Robots in my home town!?
National Museum of Transport recently opened in Glasgow in a multimillion pound regereration before the 2016 Commonwealth Games, they would probably love to have you, failing that, there is the other Commonwealth venues like Kelvinhall that would be perfect for it, right in the middle of student-ville for Glasgow and Strathclyde Uni's.
Probably too far north for most roboteers/EO's though :(
Re: Robots in my home town!?
You been nicking my thoughts?!
I've been contemplating looking into the new Transport Museum as a possible event venue, although more for a Robo Challenge size arena and event (or possible beetleweight event) than an RR or RL one. Also wondered about the suitability of the Glasgow Science Centre across the river.
Of course, none of that has actually turned into active research, it's all just in my head at the moment
Re: Robots in my home town!?
Great minds think alike Jamie 8)
Science centre would be an excellent idea too, all easily within reach too. The SECC is in the cluster of venues too and might be able to do something in the smaller rooms. I haven't done any sort of research either, but if there was any hint of an EO looking to book an event in Glasgow I would be researching like crazy!
Re: Robots in my home town!?
I was thinking about the Glasgow SECC as well :) I also thought about the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh. Mind you, that was where my first robot event was when Roaming Robots did the 2004 Winter Tour
