Typo alert if you reading James or Grant;
only the bast materials and parts. *Best
I think there's definitely a place for them in getting new people into the sport, saw a lot of people enjoying the one that was at the Gadget Show.
I think the major problem with most if not all of the kits being sold at the moment is that they don't fit into a weight class and so people cant turn up to competitions and get competing, something which would hopefully encourage them to build a unique machine once they feel more confident with it all. I don't think battling in a competition that is entirely comprised of clones of your own robot is the answer either.
Saying that, can understand why they are the weight they are though.
i personally think that kits should be in weight limits but its a good kit overall :)
My only concern is people turning up to antweight events with them assuming that they'll be allowed because they're kits, which isn't the case...other than that, anything that gets new roboteers into the sport is good.
i am not a fan of this new kit, for starters it doesn't fit into a weight class which doesn't make sense to me. a slightly more expensive beetleweight lifter kit could could be produced for just slightly more. alternatively an antweight kit could be produced for cheaper. both of these options would allow kit owners to fight other robots that aren't kits.
the second thing i do not like about these kits is the fact they are made from acrylic. i've seen several battle ants crack after falling from the arena onto a hard floor, we'll just have to wait and see if this kit has the same problem. having not tried out one of these kits i cannot comment on there performance.
the combat penguin antweight kits comply with all the antweight rules, and cost less than battle antz and perform better. this is due to us having lots of experience of antweight robots. as i said, i have not driven these new ones so can't comment too much about them.
I personally wouldn't want to put a kit like that in the arena with some of the beetleweights that have been created.
jonny, i wouldn't say lots of expericance, just about enough to find cheap stuff
have u got a link to the combat penguin kit????
its called email or pm me
what u mean?
has anyone got a link for the penguin kit?
email or pm me, there is no link i can give you all details
no link at this moment in time (will work on adding section to website but need to talk to you first harry). for the mean time for all enquiries contact harry (haz). we aren't experts but we know enough. and atleast we understand that acrylic is not a suitable building material.
Acrylic is good enough for kits fighting kits but against anything with some power behind it will probably break pretty fast.
tbf these are kits and simply provide an introduction into simple robotics and radio control, its a learning method and can be a pretty cool toy too.
I think James and Grant will know that if you wanted to make a competitive robot you would use different materials, but for what they are offering it is best option
Some great comments here guys thank you. Absolutely, acrylic isn't suitable for taking on spinners however any other weapon type in this kind of weight would cause no problems. For example the Mini Bot was run for almost a week at the GSL with out an acrylic failure.
We understand though that some people want to take things to the max. We are already working on the Carbon Fibre hop up armour panels and Ali chassis plates coming very soon :)
Oh and we have a cool video coming out soon :)
I'm more concerned about the level of consumer testing. It's alright being on a custom built arena with walls but the realities of possibly being sold to children bring an enormous headache:
Can it roll over a table without scratching it?
Can it fall off a table without damage?
Can it pull itself over carpet?
Would it survive being pushed by hand like a dinky/corgi car?
What would happen as a result of someone/thing chewing on it?
I appreciate your going to say you don't intend selling to people that young but my point wasn't you selling it - my point is the legal liability of what happens next.
Hello Ceri, thank you for your comments.
I don't feel the worry of any toy breaking if it was to fall off a table or wether or not it can operate when used on a variety of different surfaces poses a legal issue however I am grateful for your input and naturally like to hear peoples views.
it could be a nice base for someone wanting to beef it up to be a beetleweight aswell :)
I personally love the new robot kit from robochallenge... Once again showing they are the leaders in this field!! best one ever!
I think the design looks brill, the shape is unique, love the way the flipper works top work guys !!
I have to say that as it is a Battle Ant RIP OFF !!
Keep up the good work !!

Roaming Robots
mmmm bitter much?
Wedge bots, with flippers and servos for drivers aren't exactly anything new.
My own problem with kits is that there is no market for them. They are too powerful and well made for cheap toys for kids but by there very nature they are not strong enough to compete in competitions at any level (if they fit in the rules).
lol ....handbags http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_3OPikTTLQ
Very nice Dave lol
I haven't seen a battle ant unfortunately however, as gary said, a servo driven robot is not new and Robo Challenge have produced their take on it with a nice reliable system that helps families get into technology, engineering and most importantly a door to roboteering. Robo Challenge were the first uk company to produce combat robot kits now all the main organisations have produced their own versions.
I'm curious, how much do the 2 kits cost to make in terms of component parts ? I know you may get discounts for bulk buys but I wanted to know how much of your price is for the parts and whats for profit.
A lot of the event compere's say that FW's are the cheapest weight class to get into. I strongly disagree, but I would like to compare my costs against those of the battle kits.
what do u mean ???Quote:
