The Crash & Burn Mini-Tournament of Death 4
I promised. So here it is. :D
I need 12 people to enter 2 heavyweight vapourbots.
Entry rules
- No flying or hovercraft robots :P
- Clusterbots are allowed, but they must be at most 4 bots weighing up to 100kg together. (weight limits apply for clusterbots too, but only if ALL the bots in the cluster have the same type of motivation)
- You can only have a maximum of 3 active weapons going at the same time
- Interchangeable robots are also allowed, but you may only use 5 attachments for the entire tournament if you have more than 5 attachments
- Maximum PSI allowed for nitrogen pneumatics is 2400PSI. (CO2 is automatically 900PSI since that is the max it can go to) Maximum PSI for hydraulic systems is 5000PSI
Weight limits for the robots:
- 100kg for wheeled machines
- 110kg for bots with treads (El Diablo Grande) and tracks (101)
- 150kg for shufflers (Son of Whyachi)
- 200kg for true walkers (Clawed Hopper)
The format of the tournament will be 3 heats of 8 robots. 2 robots go through from each heat, and when all heats are completed the remaining robots duke it out in an annihilator style format (1v1v1v1v1v1), with one robot getting knocked out a fight until we have a true champion.

LOCOMOTION: 4 x internal wheels, made of aluminium with unrethane tyres. Each is exposed from the top and bottom and is 22cm in diameter
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at the wedge, 8mm at sides and 10mm at rear
DRIVE MOTORS: 2 x LEMCO-130 lynch motors running @ 48v
DRIVE BATTERIES: 3 x NiCad battlepacks at 48v in parallel
SPEED: 18mph
TURNING CIRCLE: 0 metres
BODY ARMOUR: 4mm hardox monocoque, flipper/top panel is
6mm.
CHASSIS: 4mm hardox monocoque. The removable panel is the top one.
WEAPON 1: The whole top panel is a full pressure flipper, powered by a 100mm ram @ 725psi from a 3kg co2 bottle, providing plenty of flips and a lot of power, similar power in fact to the modern Kronic the Wedgehog.
SRIMECH: The robot is invertible, but the flipper can be used to right it if needs be.
STRENGTHS: Powerful weaponry, tough armour

EQUINOX
BODY SHAPE: Box with 30* wedge at the front and angled rear ala Tornado like >. Sides are 45* to deflect spinners.
WEIGHT: 100kg
DIMENSIONS (L X W X H): 95cm x 70cm x 9cm
COLOUR: Dark blue with yellow skirts and forks
LOCOMOTION: 4 x internal wheels, each is 80mm in diameter and has vulkalon tyres for grip. They are mounted on a slant ala Tazbot for extra control. Instead of one in each corner they are mounted at the rear and middle of the machine, with two ball castors in the two front corners. This gives very good manouevrability, allowing Equinox to really glide around the arena like Panic Attack.
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at the wedge, effectively 0 at sides and rear due to skirts, but 10mm behind them.
SKIRTS: 5mm grade 2 titanium skirts at the sides and rear, joined by 4mm hardox hinges to stop them breaking.
DRIVE MOTORS: 4 x S28-400 magmotors run @ 24v
DRIVE BATTERIES: 4 x NiCad battlepacks at 24v in parallel
SPEED: 15mph, designed to be very fluidly controlled
TURNING CIRCLE: 0 metres
BODY ARMOUR: 6mm grade 5 titanium/vanadium 10% alloy monocoque. The removable panel is the top panel, but this is mounted on rubber bolts, rendering axes and hammers useless.
WEAPON 1: Running down the front wedge and flat along the floor are two 60cm long lifting forks, each powered by its own linear actuator, capable of rising to full height in 2 seconds, fast enough to be effective, but slow enough for controlled lifting.
WEAPON 2: Running along the top of the robot are two sets of Mute-style tungsten carbide barbs to trap opponents. Also hinged at the rear of the robot is a 95cm long clamping arm with a serrated tungsten tooth at the end of it, this is powered by an S28-400 magmotor @ 24v and is usually raised to vertical and then used to clamp opponents in place, can be used in unison with the lifting forks and barbs to good effect.
SRIMECH: The clamping arm can right the robot in 1 second, because it has a large hardox fin towards the rear half that allows it to self-right over the rear skirt.
STRENGTHS: Excellent manouevrability, controllability and pushing power, weapon synergy, tough armour

Weapon:An Achilles style rear-hinged flipper,which is attached from the back and goes all the way down the front to the bottom of the wedge. powered by a 750pi 2.5kg C02 tank, with 2 70mm bore 300mm stroke rams which power the flipper. Can flip up to 300kg and can lift up to 400kg, much like Achilles itself, it is a full body flipper, which means that the front wedge and the top, fire towards the back of the robot, the sides do not flip up though

Shape: The robot without any setup on it is shaped like Tornado, back when they didn't have the interchangeable weapons.

Drive: 4x S28-400 Magmotors, powered by 3x 25.9v 5000mAh LiPo battery packs.
Locomotion: 4 Goodyear go-kart wheels.

Ground Clearance: 0mm at sides and back due to skirts. 5mm without skirts. The front ground clearance varies with the setups, but unless otherwise noted is 5mm.
Turning Circle: 0m
Weapon: 7 different interchangeable setups.
1: A 20kg hardox scoop, designed to kill spinners. 0mm ground clearance at the front.
2: A 10kg hardox scoop like the one above, but with a Pneumatic axe powered by 2 2kg Co2 tanks using a 3kg Terrorhurtz-style axehead and a 100mm stroke 180mm ram at 200psi. It can strike with around 600kg of force, and can be recessed into the body of the robot, keeping it invertible. 0mm ground clearance at the front.
3: A set of Panic Attack-style lifting forks, powered by a 50:1 reduced 25.9v S28-400 Magmotor. It can lift 250kg. 0mm ground clearance under the forks.
4: A Behemoth-style lifting scoop, using a 75mm bore 100mm stroke ram and a 2kg Co2 tank. It can flip 400kg and lift 500kg. 0mm ground clearance at the front.
5: A 4-bar Biohazard-style lifter, using a geared-down S28-400 Magmotor. It can lift 300kg. 0mm ground clearance at the front.
6: A 20kg hardox spinning bar on top of the robot, powered by a 25.9v S28-400 Magmotor at 4000rpm. It puts out 156kj. Another skirt is added to the front of the robot. 0mm ground clearance at the front.
7: LIke setup 6, but without the bar. 0mm ground clearance all around due to skirts.
Srimech: Invertible in all setups except for setup 6. Setups 2, 4, and 5 can all self-right the robot.
Strengths: 7 WEAPON SETUPS!!!
Weaknesses: There has to be at least 1 problem with each setup.
Bio: The first Team Blood Mages robot with interchangeable weaponry. Will it work? We'll see...

BLAST
€ WEIGHT: 100kg
€ ARMOUR: 3.25mm Hardox monocoque for the sides/rear, 8mm Titanium for the top, and 1cm Hardox scoop, with 2cm of PU foam behind it to absorb shock from the front.
€ SHAPE: Low box with sides and rear angled at 35* (sides€™ angled outwards (\) rear angled inwards (/)), meaning that, combined with the skirts, it€™s harder for robots to get under the sides and rear. The front scoop is angled at 50* with the 10* mounted front spikes.
€ MOTORS: 2 x LEM130€™s at 24V = 6HP
€ LOCOMOTION: 4 x Vulkanised Wheels 30mm in width and 170mm in diameter with Titanium hubs with 8 spokes.
€ DIMENSIONS: (L) 85CM (W) 80CM (H) 21CM
€ COLOUR: Blue all over, except for the scoop, which is black with the name in blood red on the scoop.
€ WEAPONRY: Blast uses a weapon system combining the scoop and part of the top armour. The weapon is a FP flipper consisting of the whole scoop, and a 20cm wide, 75cm long section from the top, powered by 750psi pneumatics from a 110mm non-attached ram with buffer tanks to prevent freezing. The ram is geared to 3.5, producing 1000kg of force, which is a lot, and becoming from a large ram, it can flip a robot of equal weight 5ft upwards. The gas is stored in a single 2.5kg tank, giving 15 flips. The scoop has 2 x 1cm Hardox barbs built into it, in the middle with a 6cm gap between them, running flat along the floor, able to get under anything. This, combined with the speed, power and scoop should allow me to flip things about with ease.

€ GROUND CLEARANCE: 0mm-8mm. 6mm Titanium skirts are on the sides and rear, making it 0mm with 8mm under the skirts.

€ WEIGHT: 100kg
€ ARMOUR: 5mm Hardox monocoque. The insides have 2cm of PU foam on all sides to absorb hits from spinners.
€ SHAPE: Low box with sides and rear angled in triangles, like < and > meaning that it€™s harder to damage with a spinner, and the front to corners are cut off to make it harder to rip a panel off at the corners. The front is flat, to help with ramming robots hard into hazards, or just general ramming.
€ MOTORS: 2 x PERM PMG 080€™s€™s at 36V = 32HP
€ LOCOMOTION: 4 x Vulkanised Wheels 50mm in width and 180mm in diameter with Titanium hubs with 8 spokes.
€ DIMENSIONS: (L) 80CM (W) 80CM (H) 17CM
€ COLOUR: Blue all over, except for the lifter, which is black with the name in blood red on the top running vertically down the lifter.
€ WEAPONRY: Harraz uses a lifting arm mounted in the middle of the robot, running 70cm up the robot, 20cm in width. It€™s powered by a S28-400 MagMotor at 24V, geared to lift 500kg up and over. The lifter can be used to self-right the robot AND pin other robots down once flipped, so I can push them around even easier. The lifter has a 7cm long Titanium wedge to flip getting under other robots more easily.
€ SPEED: 20MPH
€ GROUND CLEARANCE: 0mm-10mm. 6mm Titanium skirts are on the sides and rear, making it 0mm with 10mm under the skirts.

1. Traffic Warden (HW)
SHAPE- rigid U shape, rounded rear
COLOUR- black with a yellow stripe
WEIGHT- 100kg, I hope
DIMENSIONS- 95cm X 150cm X 25cm
SPEED- 15mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- 10mm
ARMOUR- 4mm Grade 5 titanium
MOVEMENT- four inner wheels
POWER- 2 x Etek-RT motors, running at 48v and producing 38hp.
WEAPONS- A pair of horizontal hydraulic clamps within the middle of the machine. Each clamp is powered by an 80mm x 40mm ram operating at 3000psi, delivering up to 10 tonnes of crushing power. When an opponent slips into the middle, the clamps activate and hold them in place. Traffic Warden can then drag them around and shove them into the nearest arena hazard. Think of it as Huggy Bear on steroids.
SRIMECH- invertible, rounded rear should prevent it getting beached

2. Venus Fly Trap II

COLOUR- green with ugly great mouth on top
WEIGHT- about 100kg, I hope.
DIMENSIONS- 95cm X 95cm X 20cm
SPEED- 12mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- 10mm, though the wedges and spatulas should provide some extra protection
ARMOUR- 3.75mm Hardox
MOVEMENT- 4 x inner wheels
POWER- 2 x C40-500 MagMotors. These will run at 36v and produce approximately 12hp.
WEAPONS- On either side of Venus Fly Trap II is what appear a rear-hinged flipper with a large spatula, covered in barbs. These are the 'jaws' and are powered by an 80mm x 120mm pneumatic ram each, running at 250psi. The idea is that an opponent is scooped up on top of the robot or gets stuck on one of the spatulas, the 'jaws' fire simultaneously and ensnare it like a real venus fly trap.
SRIMECH- A rear-hinged arm on top. Powered by a separate S28-400 MagMotor geared 250:1 for quick and easy self-righting.

Hmm...a clamper, a spinner, a rammer, and a triangle. We're certainly doing our bit for diversity here ;P
I would like to offer Tracy a teamup, since I think we could have a pretty good chance against the other two. Sauron has interchangable weapons but nothing that can really gain purchase or do much damage to the angled Hardox body, and I think the front hardened steel point on Gabriel can get under the skirts easily to flip or pit. VFT has fairly high ground clearance and would be ripe for either flipping or S.O.T.A.R.'s blades to undercut it...so...any thoughts Trace-E?

From this match, I think that Gabriel will have the biggest problem with SOTAR, due to the nature of it's design. Regardless, and with no disrepect intended, Sauron is likely to lose out. From them, VFT to follow out.

Ooooo, precious flippers... :proud: Yh, Shrederator's gone, as Wedge will overturn him pretty quickly. From the remainders, I think that mayhaps Mobile Failure to immobilise TCB.
Empty Inside vs. Harraz vs. Iron Awe 6 vs. I.A.N.
I feel pretty confident in this match-up, due to my weapon/drive, and the nature of both my opponents. It doesn't matter which robot comes after me, my two targets (in order of preference) are Empty Inside, and Iron Awe. I.A.N doesn't really bother me, but I'd rather face him in the later rounds than one of the others.
Tactic for Iron Awe: out-drive, and pit. :crazy: REVERSE ONTO THE BUTTON! :crazy: That way, if I get rammed by a flipper, I'll still have a wedge to come back onto them with. Anyways, Iron Awe is quite easy to outdrive, so do so, and then shove him down.
Tactic for Empty Inside: I notice Titanium armour, which is no easy meal, but is still quite tasty, and there seems to be no padding. This means house robot feeding is a good idea. Hopefully a spinner will come in for a useful KO :proud:
Given the two wheel set-up with the wheels at the front (you say like Merlin, but that's more centre, ignore if I'm being perdantic) this might make him a bit harder to aim his flipper at me. Therefore, reaching his sides will hopefully be easy.
So the plan is go in, lift him over and use the arm to pin him down and then feed him.

Exertion II vs. Liar 2 vs. Blast vs. Eye of Ran II(I)
This is gonna depend on the Eye Of Ran version. Either way, I'll be making quite good use of him in this fight. The plan is to OOTA Liar ASAP, due to the fact he is he most dangerous contestant in this fight. He'll be hard to get a hold of, but if I can, ram him into Eye Of Ran, and hope the bar will do something awesome - yay for lazy strategy :proud: If this isn't working, OOTA him straight.
After this (so concentrate totally of Liar ftm), ram into Eye Of Ran's bar (the 1cm Hardox scoop and padding will prevent too much damage) and throw him out. Exertion isn't a massive worry to me, but if he tries to take me out or I can't get rid of Eye Of Ran, go after him - yay for lazy strategy and fighting :proud:
Btw, I am going to conserve my flips: only use them near the walls/self-righting, to maximise OOTAing possibilities.

Usual SOTAR tactics apply. Spin up, attack the bot that would be looking at me funny if it were to be able to look, and proceed to rip it to shreads. Target VFT for starts, mostly, though Sauron is also open to being attacked if it does something I don't like. Do attempt, however, to not hurt Gabriel until I kinda actually have to. :lol:

S.O.T.A.R I think causes everyone problems so it I think it will go through, and perhaps Gabriel or Sauron to follow it, as I think this is an unfortunate line-up for VFTII.
BIACS By Popular Demand vs. Sheer Heart Attack 2 vs. Vertigo vs. O.I.D.
I think SHA2 causes me the most problems, so I'd like to offer Marti to team-up if he wants to :) The other two are far from easy pickings, but IIRC O.I.D has quite a high ground clearance away from that wedge, so I'll make him by primary target and try to get him out of the arena. My armour should withstand his disc long enough for me to do so. If I manage to get rid of O.I.D I suppose I'll try and flip BIACS out as well, keeping the flipper down until I'm well underneath him and then charge to the arena wall and flip him out. If Martijn attacks me I'll try and get him side on and flip him out, but otherwise leave SHA2 well alone :proud:

Shrederator I think could actually cause Mobile Failure problems if it is not flipped quickly, but I think Wedga Ennea and The Crashing Bore 2 will prevail here regardless.
Empty Inside vs. Harraz vs. Iron Awe 6 vs. I.A.N.
Empty Inside should make it through, not sure if I.A.N still has 1 battery pack or whatever but I don't see it going through if it has. Whether Harraz's lifter is enough to get it through without being thrown over the fence remains to be seen, but it looks to be a very good bot for controlling so I think it will go through.
Heat C
Exertion II vs. Liar 2 vs. Blast vs. Eye of Ran II
Close match, I see no obvious winners, but perhaps the narrow area of attack for Liar 2 will let it down against Blast and Exertion. Eye of Ran's spinner may also have difficulty with their tough armour.
Traffic Warden vs. Cobalt vs. Equinox vs. Assegai
Cobalt is one I'd like to avoid, it looks dangerous. Traffic Warden has a rather high ground clearance which I should be able to breach quite easily, so I'd like to lift, clamp and pit him if I can... If I'm underneath he won't be able to push me anywhere. Assegai looks pretty clampable too so I'd go for him after that, but I'm open for team-ups from any of the 3 in this match.

All right, let's get right to it!!!
Over the course of the dreaded Mini-Tournament of Death, many have fallen bloodstained...or simply turned into a heap of scrap metal. The first ever tournament saw Team ???'s PsycloniZer just barely manage to outlast Team Wet 'n Wild's Dolce and win the first crown...Team Wet 'n Wild's leader, Chezza, had the next laugh, however, when Dolce's brother Do Or Die met Team Insanity's Nitro-Gene 5.0 in battle and managed to pit it in the second tournament's final! Having claimed the crown at last, Chezza vanished, and new competitors took to the stage in the third tournament. In the end, Daniel Stickler and Team Britespark made the day as Monsoon Season managed to use its powerful flipping plate to eject Team Varying Every Day's Under Pressure from the arena floor and out, hereby the champion. But now that Dan has left, the crown is once again up for grabs...

We start off with a very original machine in the form of a low truncated pyramid (ala pyRAMedroid) with two giant clamps on the sides to trap opponents should they ride over top and ensnare them, hereby effectively proving its name. :proud: It also has a flipper srimech which be used as a weapon. Despite this, having four wheels and high ground clearance means very little will actually drive up onto the front and rear wedges. On the plus-side, it has good armour and a nice torque-y drivetrain.

Winner of the 2010 Best Horizontal Spinner award, and why not? It can put out amazing amounts of power in a very short spin-up time indeed, is invertible, and has enough drivetrain power to escape situations, or even be aggressive when need calls. It's not going to push worth a damn, however, but its overwhelming armour on the ring means nothing in the arena can likely even scratch it. The top and bottom zinc/aluminium alloy will withstand only a few hits though...

And another original machine, taking shape as a low long tetrahedron with the front edge ending in a tool steel nose cone and two spikes to double it as a thwackbot. On the front edge is a front-hinged flipper capable of great force, and either side of it are two large UHMWPE 'ears' for stablility, beneath which are zinc/aluminium alloy skirts to protect the ground clearance. It also has decent 2 wheel drive, but its weak base armour is exposed if flipped.
From Northampton, England...Sauron!
A Lord of the Rings inspired name, but mainly a box on 4WD, and an A28-400 MagMotor to power each wheel. It uses interchangeable weaponry, but for this match it is using a front 10kg Hardox scoop and a pneumatic axe with a Terrorhurtz-style axehead, capable of 600kg of force. It can run either way up...so its mobility is quite exposed to weapons of the overhead variety. It also doesn't have the best armour.

Let the mini-tournament begin! :proud:
It begins with a bang as Sauron roars straight at S.O.T.A.R., but Gabriel V gets in the way, and S.O.T.A.R. makes a gangway for Venus Fly Trap II! I smell a team up! Sauron tries to move around Gabriel, but the self-styled 'angel of death' manages to breach the Hardox scoop and get underneath! Sauron in a crazy fit brings its axe down, but the Dark Lord's weapon hardly even dents the Hardox shell of Gabriel! With a wide smile Joey gets fully 'neath the Ringmaster and with a simple flick sends him over! Despite this easy 1-up on his opponent, it is quickly negated as Sauron drives away and flicks itself back over with its axe! Gabriel is in hot pursuit, though, and goes head-to-head with Sauron once more! It's not so easy to get underneath a single point, learns Lian, as Gabriel gets underneath the scoop of Sauron again, inches further under and nearing the wall flips him into it! Sauron is flung sideways into the wall and tries to throw himself off with the axe, but is only shoved back onto Gabriel V, who pushes Sauron along the wall and into an empty CPZ! With another casual flick, Gabriel tosses Sauron against the corner and backs off as the house robots come near...and Asterix comes too near, too fast! WHAM!! 118kg of robotic gaul craters into Sauron's top armour, the 4mm titanium however holding up reasonably well. But as Rorschach nears, Sauron falls off the wall and onto his wheels...and facing right into Gabriel's line of direction! With another shove of Gabriel's, Sauron is pushed back into the corner and Rorschach enters, breaching the skirts and chowing down! The axe fires frantically, but the huge crusher does not let up and within seconds half of it is already inside of Sauron's main body! And there's smoke! I think a motor has been punctured!
Meanwhile, Venus Fly Trap II and S.O.T.A.R. have come to blows and the blows themselves are not in Steven's favour! The initial hit has torn a gash in the front of VFT2, but any indication that VFT2 would take control afterward is thwarted as S.O.T.A.R. spins up very quickly indeed, and another blow lands on the front with a massive CRASH!!!, tearing the said gash much wider and proving the strength of the 3.75mm Hardox little indeed! VFT2 tries to catch up to S.O.T.A.R. but both robots are at the same speed and Steven's pursuit is fruitless, while Tracy's continuous assault is wearing the Scottish clamper down! S.O.T.A.R. lands another blow, this time on the edge and ripping it open, and also sending VFT2 flying across the arena, to land directly on the arena saws, which cut its underside! BZZT! Using this time, Tracy spins S.O.T.A.R. up again and drives straight over to the battle-scarred VFT2! But Steve simply turns his machine around; the Scottish machine reverses into S.O.T.A.R., and receives a massive dent in the backside for its trouble, but finally it has the effect Steve wanted, and S.O.T.A.R. is deflected away, completely stopped! Quick as a snake VFT2 rushes its prey and manages to wedge underneath the 20mm ground clearance! There's little Team Alt can do in this instance, as VFT2 shoves the spinner up against the wall and further wedges it, and activates the clamps!
However, it didn't count on Gabriel V, fresh off its attacking Sauron, to barge in and slide underneath the other end! Joey tosses Steve's machine over before it can get a good hold on S.O.T.A.R., and pushes it along the wall, off it, and across the arena! Meanwhile Rorschach releases his victim and Sauron leaves the CPZ, weary and crippled but still alive, and ready to take advantage...or not! For here comes S.O.T.A.R. spinning again, freed from VFT2's clutches! Sauron rushes it, but veers off-course due to one side being less powered than the other, and its entire side is exposed, the same side of Sauron that Rorschach pierced from the top! With another massive CRASH!!! S.O.T.A.R. mashes Sauron two quick times and flings him like a rag doll across the arena, not only having the skirt ripped off, but also a gargantuan chunk of the 4mm titanium ripped away like nothing, and we can now clearly see the punctured A28-400 MagMotor! Amazingly, Sauron is still going as before, after that, but here comes S.O.T.A.R. to take care of that. Lian isn't totally oblivious, and this time carefully aims to point the scoop at S.O.T.A.R., but the Canadian ring spinner makes to move around the wounded machine, and with Sauron hurt this makes it far easier. Overturning a bit, Lian leaves Sauron's side open, and in an effort to back off unfortunately sends his robot spinning backwards! Tracy takes the golden opportunity and nails that same side again, hoping to wholly kill off Sauron. More armour is ripped away and the side seems wholly exposed now, but Sauron still doesn't seem like dying just yet. Amazed that her opponent is still keeping itself going, yet nonetheless annoyed, Tracy spins her machine's ring up again and moves in for the kill. Another massive twin blow is dealt, this time on the other side with the skirt ripped away, and then digging into the main side and ripping it to shreds! Finally, Sauron putters a bit, then ceases all movement...except the axe, which fires randomly. The Watcher moves forward, and pronounces Sauron's judgment:

Sauron is out, and the house robots move back in...S.O.T.A.R. moves away to find what Gabriel's been doing...well, Venus Fly Trap managed to flip itself back over after Gabriel flipped it, but Gabriel kept flipping it, and the battered Scottish machine was helpless to do anything! Along the way they ventured into the pit release button, opening the pit, and now S.O.T.A.R. enters the fray! Gabriel backs off allowing his apparent teammate some killing room...and VFT2 charges straight into S.O.T.A.R.! With another almighty CRASH!!! VFT2 is flung into the wall, the front now looking as bad as Sauron's sides were, but S.O.T.A.R. is tossed backwards like a beer cap! And...seems unable to spin up! I say, have all the blows taken their toll on the Team Alt machine, the recoil too much? Maybe so! S.O.T.A.R. seems to be spouting smoke now as well, but unlike Sauron is fully mobile still! VFT2 tries to go after the helpless machine, but Gabriel V is there and scoops up VFT2 onto the nosecone! Oh no! S.O.T.A.R. indeed HAS stopped moving! What's happened?! Quickly Joey manoeuvres VFT2 towards the pit, but The Watcher is quickly on S.O.T.A.R.'s case!

But no, Gabriel manages to shunt VFT2 into the pit at the last second, and engulfed in smoke are three competitors...two in the arena, and one in the pit! But it's S.O.T.A.R. that moves on with Gabriel V!

Sauron is sent back into the shadows, while Venus Fly Trap II is fried by the looking glass...or should I say magnifying glass? :proud:

The 'dark horse' of the robot world, with a wedge on two arms protecting the wheels, and a powerful vertical flywheel supposed by castors above and below. Similar to other axlebots Pulverizer and Stinger. The wedge won't last long though with only 3mm titanium armour, and there may be some control problems...

What more can be said about the C&B2 champion that hasn't been said already? :proud: Thick titanium armour for the main body, the spinning drum, AND the tracks themselves, which are powered quite beautifully...add the rear wedges and kJ output the drum has, and you're looking at one hell of a robot! The tracks ARE exposed, however...

Named after the U2 song, this box-wedge has a tough, powerful flipping plate which doesn't hinder its invertibility, and quite a powerful drivetrain! There are stoppers on the wedge to prevent robots driving over it, which an be quite useful in this particular fight...but if it runs out of flipping power, it can only ram. If it doesn't...look out below! :proud:

Stands for Oh I'm Dizzy!. A invertible triangular-shaped robot with a nasty 20kg horizontal flywheel at the front, 2WD, and a hinged wedge at the rear. Hardox armour makes it seem tough as well, but this is its first try in the Crash & Burn series, so experience may be an issue...is O.I.D. delusional, or can it spin its opponents into a whirlwind of confusion? :proud:

ACTIVATE!
There goes the klaxon at the ACTIVATE...meaning the 2nd battle is underway! :proud: Vertigo is immediately launching an attack at O.I.D., who seems startled at the quickness of the machine from Liverpool, and it doesn't have time to attack because Vertigo is under the side and throws it straight across the arena! Meanwhile the C&B2 champ and BIACS By Popular Demand are squaring off, and with a deafening CRASH the two come to blows! Only BIACS came out of that collision better, and we can see why! A small dent has been made in the drum of SHA2, between the teeth! A very tight blow that, but it worked in Zarte's favour! An angered SHA2 comes back though, and revving their weapons up again they trade another smashing blow...and this time, teeth meet head-on! SHA2 is nearly upended while BIACS flies backwards, a bit buckled but otherwise fine! As the two trade further blows, Vertigo is truly having his way with O.I.D., having gotten under and thrown his fellow from Richmond-Upon-Thames into the arena wall, the flywheel not having a chance to make a mark upon Vertigo as O.I.D. meets the wall flywheel-first. Going for the OOTA Vertigo gets under again and tosses, and a quick end is spelt for Jack Orr as O.I.D. sails over the fence and out of competition!
Having secured an OOTA and absurdly pleased with himself, Lewis turns his attention to BIACS, Zarte managing to get lucky and get another blow between SHA2's drum teeth and dent the drum further. Vertigo races straight in, but BIACS' wedge manages to get under the flipping plate, NOT the main body however! The wedge travels over the stoppers and, going further into the back of the wedge, catches the stoppers and jams the flipping plate open! This would have been good for Zarte, but even if Vertigo didn't have 2 more wheels, its motors overpower BIACS', and so Vertigo shoves BIACS forwards, and into the path of the incoming SHA2! There is a terrific CRASH, and SHA2 goes flying backwards! There are some sparks which suggest to all of us that there was another teeth meeting, and Martijn seems worried...because that's exactly what happened, and the drum is missing a tooth now, unlike BIACS' disc! With BIACS firmly attached to his robot, Lewis goes for the pit release, but SHA2 is after Vertigo in a blazing fury, its drum spinning back up with apparently little mechanical damage! Vertigo suddenly swings around and bears BIACS' to the front of SHA2, and YIKES! That had to hurt! The left side track of SHA2 got that blow...did it withstand the blow? We'll find out soon enough...Vertigo backs into the pit release button, but it is definitely clear that BIACS' disc HAS done something to SHA2's mobility! Yes, the feared C&B2 champion is moving about in a circle, but no external damage has been really done which means something must have been done inside the machine! Whatever the case, being only able to move about in a circle means your luck's run out! As to confirm this, The Watcher sidles over and begins the death knell for the Dutch robot!

Great fights KK. Thank God your middle name isn't Kevin BTW...
And S.O.T.A.R. next. Should be a good one. My plan'll be as follows. Keep the wedge facing, her shape and the positioning of the blades as well as her ground clearance is gonna make it hard for her to hit, and for what is essentially an axlebot we have pretty good control. If she lands on the wedge try and force the weight over. We can try and get her in the air then slap in with the disc on its way over. We're likely to get hit a couple of times but we should survive :)

Gabriel V vs. Vertigo: I can't think of much else beyond 'outmanoeuvre it, using the better 2WD, and get it down the pit or into the house robots as quickly as possible', so...um...that's what Gabriel's tactics will be :proud:

Right, I have speed over BIACS, my 12 to it's 9, so let's try to use this to my advantage. Spin up and try to keep to it's sides, those wheels look like they could be cut up easy enough, should I be able to get to them. Do my level best to keep away from the wedgy bit, and go for the sides as much as possible. If I have to go at the wedge, uhm, hope my ring catches it and causes damage, I suppose!

And so we're off with Round 2, and Zarte has some wedging in mind...but the drivetrain that proves the swifter is SOTAR's! And it's looking like the weaponry that is the swifter is also SOTAR's, as the large titanium and vanadium armoured ring is already at full speed! Zarte isn't minding this one bit, and BIACS confidently chases after SOTAR. Tracy has other things in mind than being wedged, though, and aims to put a hit on one of the two juicy tires exposed! Trying to move around the axlebot to hit the tire, however, is a more pressing issue, and SOTAR can't quite manage it. Finally getting his wedge to bear, Zarte drives BIACS straight into the ring spinner.
CRASH!!!!
And HOLY MACKINAW, what a hit!!! SOTAR is completely off-balance, having hit the wedge dead-on and, unbalanced, sent flying across the arena in a blur! But BIACS By Popular Demand is in a right state as well...the 3mm titanium wedge is a wedge no more! The panel has been ripped to shreds, and with no backing has been split into two tattered pieces of what was once a key objective in Zarte's plan! But still, BIACS drives forwards, the wedge 'arms' completely unharmed! SOTAR has stopped pulling the 'crazy Mauler dance', as has been famously coined...but after all that crashing around, is it still mobile? The answer is a collective 'yes', as the wheels come to life and propel SOTAR away from the British machine...what's more, the ring is spinning again, and you can see the consternation on Zarte's face now. With no real wedge to use anymore, Zarte turns his machine around to use the disc. Tracy looks gleeful now, and quite thankful the first hit hadn't killed her machine from shock damage, but now the disc is the problem...and Zarte brings it quickly to bear! There is a deafening SMASH, and SOTAR is now overturned! But BIACS has been flung across the arena! And we can see why! SOTAR managed to hit one of the panels protecting the bottom castor, ripping both protecting panels and castor out entirely! But this swung the vertical disc into SOTAR's spinning ring, and flipped it! Regardless, BIACS is in a pitiable state now with the disc actually touching the arena floor and quite useless! SOTAR is spinning again, and moving to attack BIACS, who can't really get anywhere fast, and a swift blow sees one of the wedge arms get ripped off entirely, while hardly stopping the ring! This allows Tracy to get an immediate hit on the large wheel of BIACS, tearing a massive gash into it! It also sends BIACS over to the wall nearby, and Zarte with some quick thinking tries to drive along the wall...and in a spectacular skill of driving, manages to imitate the legendary Christian Carlberg and his robot Overkill, and invert BIACS by driving up along the wall! The disc now balanced and spinning again, BIACS brings it to bear upon SOTAR, but the chances still look grim!
CRASH!
Disc and ring meet head-on, and both robots get sent flying! SOTAR lands, still inverted, while BIACS was popped up into the air, and bizarrely was overturned the reverse way, as the robot was flung over by the power of its own disc. Wait...what's this? There appears to be something wrong in the Team Alt camp, as SOTAR can't seem to spin up! Zarte would beam...if his robot were still in a fully-functional state, but with only a wedge arm, one castor, a disc and two wheels (one tattered) remaining, he remains grim. BIACS moves forward again to get the disc in, but it seems to be only jerking forward, inches at a time! So Team Devil's Incarnate are not without their share of pain from that last blow...Tracy is alarmed, however, and SOTAR makes a gun for the pit release button, slamming into it and opening the pit. Zarte however is in far worse trouble, as BIACS is sputtering forward only. SOTAR moves to get around the disc and, thanks to BIACS' drivetrain problems, easily manages to do so. SOTAR starts to shove BIACS towards the pit, a little awkwardly due to its cylindrical shape. Zarte tries to turn and strike with the disc, but he's getting nowhere fast, except nearer and nearer the pit...and eventually, inside it! BIACS tumbles in from one last shove from the ring spinner!

BIACS, we demand you get your unpopular chassis from the arena floor before the house robots eat it up. :proud:

Vertigo vs. Gabriel V

For this battle there's Sgt. Bash with the pincers and flamethrower...and our own Count Bleck, spinning mad!

ACTIVATE!
The quicker start of the two fights, with each opponent darting off to the sides to get under the other's! The result of this has Gabriel's greater manoeuvrability proving its prominence and it finds Vertigo's left side! Gabriel swiftly darts underneath, but at the same moment Vertigo fires the flipper to try and get off! He catches the side ear, however, and both robots are swung around, Vertigo barely managing to keep on its wheels. The machine from Pontefract drives at Vertigo, but slips aside. Vertigo doesn't even turn and just guns at Gabriel, knocking forcibly into one of the ears. He fires the flipper, and while not quite overturning Gabriel V, throws him up enough so that the Liverpool machine is able to turn and face Gabriel's rear as Gabriel lands! With a clear shot at Gabriel's rear Lewis makes like a drag race car and blasts off, and before Joey can so much as even blink at the unexpected development Vertigo has penetrated the rear skirt and has thrown Gabriel onto its back! Vertigo waits for Gabriel to start self-righting, playing it safe. There isn't exactly much else for Joey to do unless he wants to get counted out, so Gabriel begins to self-right...quickly Vertigo pounces on the opportunity, but as the edge of the plate hits Gabriel's self-righting nose cone, Gabriel tips straight onto Vertigo's back, and goes over the back! Lewis hadn't expected this, but now quickly throws Vertigo into reverse gear, with the nose cone of Gabriel barely two inches off the hinge of Vertigo's flipping plate. Joey fires the flipper of Gabriel hoping to shake himself loose, but Vertigo is already shoving him backwards so it doesn't do much, and within seconds Gabriel is crunched against the arena wall! Ooh! How unexpected...the angle that Gabriel's perched at, and the angle of his rear wedge, means that Gabriel is being shoved up the arena wall...and now is on top of Vertigo! He makes to drive off...but a startled Lewis breaks out of his reverie and fires his flipping plate...and amazingly, I believe we have our first-ever C&B reverse OOTA!!! Vertigo has just thrown Gabriel off the top of it and over the fence! What a feat! A disappointed Joey nonetheless applauds the winner, but Lewis, shocked as he is, isn't done yet! There's been a lack of house robot attacking, and he aims to settle that! With a burst of speed Vertigo jets right into Sgt. Bash before the house robot knows what is happening, and tosses him...over the fence as well! Just barely though, but it counts! ...and now you've just enraged the mad Count Bleck, my dear fellow! Vertigo drives straight at him, however!
CRASH!!!

Cease is called as a massive dent is placed onto the front plate, but Count Bleck bounces away like a pinball...better pack up your things, boys!
Gabriel blacks out and receives a kiss from the Angel of Death!

Shrederator vs. Mobile Failure 2.5 vs. Wedga Ennea vs. The Crashing Bore 2
Fancy a team-up, Tracy?
I shall go for Shrederator first... reverse into it with the rear end to slow the spinning speed down - it's sloped and tough, so it should be able to take the hits well. Then turn around, get under it, and throw it over with the flipper. Then go for The Crashing Bore 2 and see if I can get it out of the arena.

Definitely a contender, Shrederator is a cylindrical 4WD full body spinner with a thick steel shell and a polycarb armoured top with steel 'ribs', and its shell is powered by D-Pack motors, sports many tool steel teeth and has been known to tear robots apart in the RFL arena like a grinder tearing apart HDPE scraps in a blow-moulding plant! :proud: It has destroyed some very powerful opponents, but will it survive with no srimech?

The oxymoron will surely make you feel moronic for daring to stand up to it; its ridiculously powerful axe will cut you right down to size! :proud: Add to the fact it has powerful drive and decent armour, and you'll fail to realize your ignorance of taking it on! Unless of course you can wear down its axe power and flip it. It has those skirts...but even skirts aren't invincible, so the Mobile Failure could spell epic fail for Tracy...

This robot is in the nines...and it can launch you to cloud nine with a rear-hinged flipper containing the same power 2010 UK champion Iron Awe 5 wields! :proud: Like Mobile Failure 2.5, Wedga Ennea has Ti/V armour and 4WD, but has thicker armour, less drive power, and is more compact. Also like Mobile Failure, Wedga will eventually run out of power for its weapon...but can you last long enough to ensure it does?

No rest for the weary, the sport's oldest contender is back for more! It's a box wedge with titanium skirts, Hardox body armour, powerful drive, and one hell of a weapons synergy! A powerful mousetrap-like thwacking blade, a lifting wedge, and a drill inside the wedge that can spear opponents through the underbelly! It doesn't look like it can self-right reliably though, so The Crashing Bore might actually be a bit of a bore after all this time. :proud:

House robots? You want 'em, we got 'em! This time around, however, we're not telling you beforehand which ones have been put in the arena! They'll be in the battle though, so keep an eye or two out for 'em! :proud:

ACTIVATE!
The whirling shell of Shrederator is revving up quickly already, but here come BOTH Wedga Ennea and Mobile Failure after it! Wedga being closer to it, gets there first, but Shrederator's shell is already at full speed and there's a massive collision. Because Wedga backed into it, he takes the full punishment of Shrederator's fury and is tossed away like an action figure! This however means that Shrederator flings itself across the arena as well, and Tracy is right in its face. Team Logicom can't get their robot away fast enough and with a huge SMACK Mobile Failure axes Shrederator almost directly in the circle, actually hitting the steel rib but cleaving through it anyway! Of course, this means Tracy can't get her bot to wedge to super spinner, but she can sure as hell shove it around! As she heads for a CPZ, The Crashing Bore makes its first important role by wedging Wedga Ennea from behind and snapping the trap shut! This manages to completely snare Wedga Ennea, the force enough to pin it, and Frank activates the lifting wedge, rendering the flipperbot helpless! Andy fires his robot's flipper but that does little to ease the grip on him, and Frank heads for the pit release button. Shrederator, meanwhile, is taking a massive beating as Mobile Failure has it pinned between Dead Metal and itself, and both she and house robot are exchanging giving it blows! Tracy seems to be outdoing the house robot in every way, though! The polycarb is totally ripped open for the axe punishment, while the saw (while producing lovely sparks) seems to be completely ineffective against the steel shell of the RFL veteran! Now Tracy manages to wedge it and shove it straight into Dead Metal, but it's needless...the electronics inside Shrederator must have been destroyed, for it's not moving at all! Tracy catches on, and now decides to re-join the other battle as The Watcher is here to make his statement! And the statement reads, thus...

A sorry end for the powerful dervish, but there's no pity for the losers! Dead Metal continues sawing into the broken spinner, and Hexadecimal is leaving her CPZ to have some fun too, while The Crashing Bore, having opened the pit, moves Wedga Ennea towards the gaping hole...completely unaware of the axebot racing in towards its side! There is a massive collision as Mobile Failure impacts directly into The Crashing Bore's side, and the hit is so great that the grip on Wedga is nearly lost...and then it is! Wedga fires the flipper again and shakes itself loose at last! Axeing is had, as The Crashing Bore now receives a few dents from Mobile Failure's axe, but managing to get to MF's side gets under the side skirt and main body, and lifts it over! And then it finds its own world gone topsy-turvy, for an angry Wedga has gotten under the rear and shot The Crashing Bore high into the air, causing it to fly into a spectacular 540 degree somersault and land directly on its back! Mobile Failure by now has righted itself, but The Crashing Bore seems to be having trouble self-righting...they told us it could self-right, but either the trap is not working now, or it doesn't have enough leverage or force to get Frank's robot back onto its wheels...nonetheless, Andy is feeling pretty vengeful, and so wedges The Crashing Bore again, Wedga going for the arena ejection! And goodness me, does he get it! A massive toss, and The Crashing Bore sails far above the railing, bounces off the Plexiglas and nearly backs in, and but hits the railing, and is out! And we have our winners...and sadly we must have a look at Shrederator...it's a wonder the house robots haven't been able to do much damage to it, though, as they can't reach over to hit the polycarbonate...or what's left of it. But Dead Metal has had enough, and slowly but surely, a shove later and Shrederator is spared of further humiliation.

Shrederator has as much power as a paper shredder, while The Crashing Bore crashed and 'bore'd! :proud:

Its aim is to empty the arena of its opponents! :proud: Its rear-hinged flipper, running the length of the robot, can toss over 300kg easily, and has quite a great number of flips, so it might not run out before you're on the camera tracks! Other notable features are 6mm titanium armour, and A28-400 drive. It won't be as powerful as a few of the other flippers in this tournament, though, both drivetrain-wise and weapon-wise...

A Hardox armoured robot with an angular low box shape, it has a controlled lifting arm and plenty of drivetrain power to lift and ram! It will suffer from a lack of actual damaging weaponry, but lifters have been an uncommon phenomenon these days. A black-and-blue colour scheme might foreshadow your eventual beating, too. :proud:

A respected champion of Roaming Robots, and why not? The Bosch motors powering it may be a little underachieving, but the flipper is not only crazy powerful but can give off a lot of flips as well! 3mm Hardox armour and a bump over the flipper are the rest of the notable features of this 2WD wedge, but still it will run out of weapon power eventually. Is Iron Awe 6 going to be ironed out? :proud:

Not the least out of the flipping machines, this rear-rounded low wedge can flip opponents over the fence a maximum of 40 times! And it's also very fast and quite decently armoured. That said, its power source, a single Li-Ion pack of 36.3 volts, may not even see it go a full minute! :proud: Its ground clearance is quite low too, so it may have trouble with uneven surfaces.

ACTIVATE!
Looks like we have another team-up on the horizon, as both Empty Inside and Harraz have a lock-on on Iron Awe 6! Rob Grimm manages to wedge Harraz, and send it flying across the arena! However that allows Empty Inside to find the open side of the current champion and turn IT over with a good flip as well! I.A.N. isn't one to be left out though and slams into the back of Empty Inside, and launches IT overtop of Iron Awe 6 as well! What a flipping frenzy already! Harraz seems to be quite immune to the assault and goes back in on the attack, sliding under the self-righting Iron Awe 6's side and shoving it across the arena to meet...the Disc of Death! The hazard disc impacts HARD into the side of Iron Awe and tears a small gash into it, but little else. Harraz still has control of the champion, but not for long - I.A.N. is on the rampage and penetrates the rear skirt of Harraz, wedging it and throwing it skyward, and releasing Iron Awe! Empty Inside gets back in though, and gets revenge on I.A.N. by giving it a dose of its own medicine, and tossing it onto its back! This prompts Iron Awe to sneak around to Empty Inside's rear and toss IT over, too! :proud: It's chaos out there, but Iron Awe isn't too happy and meeting Harraz head-on manages to get under the lifter again, and under the main body too, throwing Harraz across the arena again! Empty Inside, having self-righted, attacks Iron Awe, but the champion is back in ITS face too...but unfortunately Empty Inside proves the lower and getting under tips it onto its head! I.A.N.'s back in, but now its attack is stopped by Harraz blazing in and getting under the side of I.A.N., and slamming it hard into the arena wall! This helps Empty Inside to keep pressure on the Roaming Robots champion and as UK champ self-rights, it lands directly on top of Empty Inside and Lian sends him right back over! Rob tries to get Iron Awe going again...weirdly enough, though, Empty Inside went for the OOTA, but didn't have enough leverage to get him out! That, or the flip was too weak. Either way, Iron Awe is surviving and back on his wheels again, getting out of trouble! Meanwhile, Harraz lifts I.A.N. against the wall, and I.A.N. tries to flip itself away, but this just gives Harraz more leverage to try and stack him...not that it does Harraz much good, for I.A.N. simply falls onto its wheels! Harraz moves back in again, before I.A.N. is able to move, and starts lifting again, but in comes Iron Awe from the side! Getting under BOTH robots, it tosses them...but sadly misses out on both OOTA attempts! :proud: Harraz bounces off the railing and falls back in, while I.A.N. flies terminal and bounces off Iron Awe to land on its back! It fires the flipper and...stays put! Jack's concerned...the flipper seems to be working though, but the drive is not responding at all! This gives Lian an opportunity as Empty Inside makes another entrance, and before The Watcher can even check out the situation there's a flipping firing and an I.A.N. perched precariously on the railing, and finally falling off...the wrong side of the fence! :proud:
1 down, 1 to go, and Iron Awe has given Harraz another massive toss during that OOTA, and Paul is doing some serious scurrying away, but in comes Empty Inside to lend a hand...or flipper, in this case! Iron Awe is wedged from the side and tossed over, and Harraz charges! Iron Awe self-rights, but directly on top of the incoming Harraz, who shoves him into another Disc of Death! There's a massive dent in the other side, but no actual cutting through! Empty Inside doesn't even go for the pit but drives in beside Harraz and tries to get Iron Awe out of the arena again, but something about the UK champ is defying Lian's determination to get it out! It hits the railing, but bounces back in. Harraz tries helping out, lifting Iron Awe against the wall, but the angle is bad and Harraz ends up pushing Iron Awe along the wall into Shunt's CPZ! Shunt obviously remembers the time Iron Awe 2 flipped it over in the Robot Wars main series, and greets the flipper with a series of vicious blows! Iron Awe is really in a pickle here; Harraz goes for the pit release button while Empty Inside takes its place by wedging Iron Awe 6 again and tossing it into Shunt's scoop! Harraz slams hard into the pit release button, narrowly dodging a passing Sir Killalot en route to Shunt's CPZ, and travels back around the knight of the realm to re-enter the carnage! Shunt is very agitated as his axe blows are really ineffective against the Hardox armour of Iron Awe, and Empty Inside has wedged him again, when both Sir Killalot and Harraz enter the scene! Harraz gets there first with a HUGE slam against the rear of Iron Awe, lifting it up; Empty Inside tosses it OVER Shunt and into the corner, where Sir Killalot is waiting! Iron Awe, now on its wheels, tries to get out, but the claw of Killalot makes its presence known, clenching down onto the wedge tip and lifting it up...but the clench was weak and Iron Awe falls out of the grasp! A supremely peeved Robert Grimm now takes vengeance! Shunt is first to be wedged, directly under the scoop, and the axe blow never reaches Iron Awe, as one flip later and the house robot is o'er ye olde fence! :proud: Harraz now has room...but only to be wedged by Iron Awe and sent flying again! Sir Killalot shoves Iron Awe against the wall but can't really do much else, and Empty Inside can't attack as Killalot's claw is in the way! Killalot doesn't seem on letting up any time soon...so Harraz attacks HIM! Killalot's tread takes a hammering as Harraz tries to lift him up, but only ends up lifting his own wheels off the ground, the leverage not quite enough to topple the mighty knight!
Sir Killalot's attention is grabbed...but as soon as he lets go of Iron Awe, Robert Grimm gets his robot to Killalot's side, and manages to pop him up! Empty Inside helps out and at long last Sir Killalot is toppled onto his side! The Watcher is staying WELL away from the vengeful flippers, not daring to incur their wrath, and that's a good thing, since now the actual battle begins again! Iron Awe is on Harraz's case, but Empty Inside knocks Iron Awe aside and tosses him over! Harraz shoves Iron Awe towards the pit, and could this be - NO! Iron Awe self-rights spectacularly and Harraz nearly drives himself into the pit! But any thoughts of shoving Harraz down the pit are quickly dashed as Lian will simply not leave Robert alone, Empty Inside tossing Iron Awe over from the back again! Iron Awe self-rights, but Empty Inside is there again, and tosses him across the...ARENA! And that's it! Iron Awe lands straight into the pit, and the upset is complete!

Iron Awe 6 caught awe-some airtime but had a rough pit-stop, while I.A.N. is nowhere near invincible! :proud:
