Team Avenger build diary
After Whitwick I found several problems with my old bot so I am just rebuilding him, my new bot ..... EITHER Spike 2 or ReAvenger (can't pick)
The new bot will be shorter, have thicker armour, bigger wheels, better batteries and more importanly 4 wheel chain drive system (which will be unconventional, but so am I)
Currently, I have taken out ALL the insides of my old bot and put them in storage till I got some more time to measure it all up for the new body but will keep you posted and I should come back with a harder and faster robot :) (well, I'm more after one that works properly and drives in straight lines, but you get the picture)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
Straight lines are over rated & a predictable battle tactic!
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
when you try and drive straight and go quite badly to the right, straight is better :)
but, it looked like i was ment to be doing that :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
after looking at the Carcinus rebuild i am now tempted by a clawed robot, still called either 'Spike 2' or 'ReAvenger' but i could finally have an active weapon
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
just bought my actuator and esc for it (it was thrown in and i hope it works) so i can get the dimensions and waight of the batteries so i can start looking at size and thickness of armor :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
update:
got my actuator but i need a new esc since the one i got didnt work, but it was free
im doing the whole thing now in 10mm hdpe and i might come a little under weight but if i do i can always beef up the claws or just add some extras in :uhoh:
although i do need another £140 for the batteries and extra ones needed, esc and armor and thats not even including the stuff for the claws, chargers and all the other little bits i need to buy (DAM I NEED A JOB!), its going to be a long one to buy and build but with my birthday in July, im aiming for the competition in Kidderminster in october so i should have plenty of time to get it built and i have the summer in the middle of that so more than enough time
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
just been down to my local metal works, got some 4mm ali for the actuator end. there off-cuts bin is amazing! i would get enough metal to make a whole featherweight just from off-duts, and i am now considering it :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
not yet since i dont even have all the bits for the inside yet, i aint bought the stuff to make the body shell yet
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
got a load of checkered mild steel from a metal works in Market Harborough out of the scraps bin all for free :) happy person :)
a mix of 3-6mm (minus 4mm) for various parts of the armor and i will have the 8mm HDPE lid and base. ordering the esc for the actuator at the weekend, then its just the £72 for the 2 3300 mAh 9.2V batteries and 2 spares and the £22 for 2 chargers (dont need any moire than that, just charge all my batteries before the events
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
one i hav compleated my featherweight i am going onto a massive project....
TEAM AVENGER ARE BUILDING A HEAVYWEIGHT!!!!!! :proud:
This is mainly due to being donated a fully working wheel chair and i have though 'right, bite the bullet and let just build one!'
So obviously wheel chair motor driven, will have probably 8mm steel armor and then a 10mm steel bio-hazard style electric lifter. this is a massive project for me to undertake and will take probably a couple of years but will all be worth it, this is a 'build it properly, not quickly' robot that will hopfully hold its own in the arena (eventually) :)

Re: Team Avenger build diary
A word of advice: Make sure the motors are mounted well, that was Cabrakan 1's downfall, the motors were mounted badly and irreparly broke them, and they were from a wheelchair.
Side note: I asked about a replacement for it, they said they were Mark 1 motors, they were on Mark 3. £300 for a new one! I could buy a Mag C40 for that!
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
These ones are going to be mounted very sturdy, like I said, a long project but I'm doing it right, not quickly
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
Featherweight update:
i have drawn up some plans for the new feather and its not going too bad, the body might be a little different to what i intended and will be smaller than some feather's but it should be a very strong robot that i can hopfully enter into spinner events :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
little update, going to get the bodywork done for my featherweight in the next couple of weeks, and im currently getting the rest of the cash together to buy all my parts in one big hit
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
Due to a pair of my snakes breeding I have had to put my robot lower down my priorities ATM. Any money spare can go on robot parts but there probably won't be much
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
my robot project looks little more hopfull sicne i have been able to borry the most expencive part of my snake incubating equipment.
i chucked all the insides from my old robot into a body shell i had laying about to test it all and it all still works.
bought a battery charger off ebay, now i need a powerpack for it, getting the metal parts of the body done in the next couple of weeks and ordering the HDPE soon aswell so i can make a proper start on it :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
little update:
bought the metal for the claws today, got 2m of 30mm x 30mm x 3mm steel tubing for a whole 5 quid!
did the maths and the metal for the body and claws is about 7kg, so it should come in the 13.6kg limit
ordering some 10mm hdpe for the lit and base tomorow and doing all the welding of the body sometime during the week, also ordering the power supply for the battery charger. then that will clear me out for while.
all that will be left to order is the esc for the claws and the batteries, we are looking on target for being done in the next 6-8 weeks :)

Re: Team Avenger build diary
had to make the bot slightly wider sicne i got my guessing wrong :)
it's now 49cm wide! but only 24cm long and 8cm high, i just hope it comes in the weight limit!

Re: Team Avenger build diary
ah, very true.
thats what i normally say to other reptile keepers when they ask 'why is your name mattsdragons when you only keep snakes?'
worng responce for the wrong forum

Re: Team Avenger build diary
had to do another cardboard mock-up
its now 25 inches wide but only 9 inches long. i hope it gets in the weight limit with some to spare sicne i wouldnt mind adding some extra armor around the more expencive parts (esc's, batteries and actuator mainly)

Re: Team Avenger build diary
made a lot of progress today, got all the body welded and started to grind it etc. ye some of the angles are a little off but its not that noticable.
i should have something to drive by the end of next week if all goes to plan.
a few pics so you can get the rough idea:

Re: Team Avenger build diary
my main body shell is now compleat and i have the base plate cut. I will probably get the top cut tomorow and it wont get properly mounted till next week. still got too order my relay and batteries but it should be ready for june, then i can finally get back in the arena and have some fun
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
got the base and top plates cut but i need to do a little more welding on the inside. then its just getting them mounted. ill have to figure out a way of armouring up the front once i fugure out how much weight i have left and were my claws will retract to
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
you will all say im nuts but im going for it and buying the original toxic :)
will make some changes, bigger wheels, mabye a larger ram and depending on how much cash i have, i might even make it a front hinged flipper :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
Also as another update for no one who knows yet, im now a part of the team :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
Oh, my bad lian, we also have a new team member and we are having an official team meet this Saturday :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
The 1st matter of buisness, hello i guess lol
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
all my parts are now either ordered or here, now i just have to put it all together and make my claws :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
just the last of the welding to do, then it will take about a day to get all my parts inside, but then the job I have been trying to avoid, the trial and error of making the claws with the weight I will have spare.
that will be interesting, pics soon of bot without claws and not fully painted... hopfully

Re: Team Avenger build diary

Re: Team Avenger build diary
its in a absolute mess but i think with lain's creative thinking it would be able to get up and running again, and probably better than how it was for me :)
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
Little know fact: I stuck the top on sideways in that pic
-
Re: Team Avenger build diary
oh, also, ill be able to do you some new decals with my dads sign printer, just chuck a couple of layers of clear varnish on it to keep it protected :)

Re: Team Avenger build diary
Did reckon anyone else would have an original Xbox in their room except me  , also didn't think anyone else would use quite as many cable ties and we did either.
