2011 Roaming Robots FRA HW Champs @ the O2

So, Robot World is going to have a fantastic April in 2011!!

Everybody loves a Heavy Weight knockout competition, well that€™s what you€™re getting for 2011.

Taking place in the Premier Plaza Event space at the O2 ( Yes O2 ), we will be holding this year€™s championships.

This event will be the dbut of the full brand new Roaming Robots Battle Arena which is currently being finished. We have now ploughed our way through the mass of red tape, artwork signed off, and tickets have now been passed on, and will go on sale in the next week or so.

Sign ups went live last week and we are full which is great !!!

Venue: O2 London Piazza Event Space
Date: Sat / Sun April 23/24th
Shows: 3shows per day
Times: 12pm, 3.30pm & 7pm
Capacity:1000 per show.

Next week we will be asking you to confirm your HW entry by paying your £60 deposit. It is £60 per robot entry. On receipt of this entry you will then be allocated a hotel room for both the Friday and Saturday night. When your robot completes its first fight, you will receive your money back.

Meals
We will be providing meal vouchers for a drink, sandwich, crisps, and chocolate bar for each person, priority will be given to heavyweight teams, but should be plenty to go around.

Feathers, Ants and Battle Ratz
We will be running a competition for the feather weight, Battle Ratz, and Ant weights throughout the event.

Trophies
The FRA will be providing the funding once again for the trophies for the champs.

This event is going to take Robotic events to a different level, this will be like no event we€™ve organised before.

New presenter, new arena, new show format, new everything€¦ there is a massive investment being introduced to not only fund the O2 event for Roaming Robots but as a whole company. So things are about to change for the better !!!

Due to the new show format, we will be asking you to please try and arrive on Friday lunchtime. The arena is being built Wednesday / Thursday and we would like to get photos, tech checks etc done and out of the way.
Plus we would also like to run a bit of a dress rehearsal of the new format to check logistics of how it will work. I can now reveal that one of the things is we will be having is loading pens, so you will drive your robot into the arena€¦ rather than arm it up inside€¦.. think Robot wars !!! Yes you need to be able to drive your robot through a tunnel€¦ get practicing !!

Filming has now been confirmed, and 4 teams have been contacted who we know are building robots, and will be being filmed in the run up to the event, There will also be a multi camera film crew at the event filming the whole thing.
We are producing a 30 minute documentary. We have a TV channel interested in seeing the finished product, however primarily we are producing it for a DVD.

With a maximum number of tickets over the whole event being 9000, we are looking for all the help we can get. Every team taking part will most probably be sent fliers and a few posters. Plus we will be looking for some teams who are willing to help do some promotional work with their robots at the O2 in the run up to the event.

For example, there is a Justin Beiber concert on at the O2 Mid March and we will be there with Major damage, a couple of extra teams would be great !! Any other help, always welcome.

Is the Friday tech check just for heavyweights?

I'm supposed to be working on the Friday til 7:30pm, we were planning on driving up through the night to be there for Saturday. Does this mean I can't do that, with tech checks etc being on the Friday? I'll try and get my shift covered, but that's proving difficult as is.

We are still accepting entries for all weight classes.
I do expect a few hws to drop out when asked to put their money where their mouth is.

If you can't get there for Friday then it's not a big issue, we just want to get As much done on the Friday as possible.
Yes Friday is primarily for heavyweights however if others want to come early too then so much the better.

The first show on Saturday isn't until 12 so plenty of time.

** Update **

Artwork has been rejected again..... now having to pay the O2 graphic design team to finish it which WILL be done on Monday!!!

However....

Tickets will go onsale on the following dates !!

O2 priority - 14th March
Roaming Robots / FRA members / followers - 15th March
General Sales - 16th March

Last minute.com website has now jumped on board and are taking 10% of our tickets to sell, which is great news !!!
O2 priority linking with us means our advert goes out to thousands who are registered with their phone for O2 prioity. you get a text message with a secret link to the tickets before everyone else.

I know this should be in wanted section...but what the hell...
I would love to be able to attend this event with the improved
and modified BULLFROG......
But as usual i face the challenge of getting the robot and me to the event
My wife freaks out when i mention the robot and our small family car.
Is there any kind soul out there that could put themselves out a bit and help me ?

Update.

FOR ALL HEAVY WEIGHT CHAMP ENTRIES ** IMPORTANT **

This is event is going to be like no other event, as in its not the normal Roaming Robots size. We are going to the expence of providing hotels for entries on the friday night for two main reasons.

1) if tickets do very well, then we have an option to add on the friday with 3 extra shows. We would be happy with the 6 shows over the two days but it is an option to expand !!
2) due to the different format, different loading / unloading sequences we want roboteers to arrive FRIDAY AFTERNOON so we can get the tech checks out of the way and you can have a dry run of arming your robot and driving into the arena etc !!!

IF ANYONE ISNT COMING ON THE FRIDAY, THEN YOU HAVE 24 HOURS TO LET ME KNOW OR THE HOTEL WHICH IS BOOKED FOR YOU WILL BE WAISTED AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED. ** VERY IMPORTANT **

We have had 38 heavyweight entries, I will be emailing teams later this week to confim your entry to the O2, then payment will be asked late next week.

We now have confirmation of when the tickets are going on sale and will be announcing it later today via our website and email newsletter.

The dates:

Wednesday 16th March tickets on sale to O2 Priority customers, if you are on O2 you can register via your phone for free to get tickets 48hrs Early.
Thursday 17th March tickets on sale to Roaming Robots newsletter subscribers - subscribe to the free newsletter via our website.
Friday 18th March tickets go on sale to the General Public.

Hope this helps anyone wanting to book tickets, as i am getting lots of emails asking.... including people from ireland, and scotland travelling just for the event..

The 100 words is seperate from the stats, It doesnt have to be dead on 100 words, its just to give an approximation. Just make it worth reading. Then email it to me.

Ripper is a reincarnation of my old Robot Wars TV robot, however its faster, more agile, better controlled, and a much more powerful flipper.
People say I am the best driver around, and the machine helps me do well. 2008 - 4th, 2009 - 3rd,2010 - 2nd , so its got to be my year to become Champion. You will notice it because of the bright Yellow and Green paintjob. I was put on this earth to stop the reigning champion Iron Awe 5 winning again ! They know I€™m coming.

Well, our deposit is also underway, so I will all see you there at the O2.

Still got some stuff to do on Mantis, reducing weight being one, getting some kind of selfright working being the other. The weight issue will be solved this week, the selfright is more difficult.

Ok so things are finally coming together, thanks for the info people have sent me today, keep it coming !!!
We've actually made some progress today, as we have several companies providing bits of the event setup, so pulling together all the spec and quotes for a production meeting with the big chease's at the O2 on Tuesday.


So if i get all the info as planned by sunday night, then we can move onto the next stage....

Next week I will release the show format, and be doing the draw !!

Just one Mr Danby who has yet again signed up for an event, and then not intended to come or let us know. Luckily we have someone who has now been allocated his Hotel room and place.
