2011 Robo Challenge UK Championships. April 15-17, NEC

Robo Challenge are proud to be hosting the 2011 FRA UK Featherweight Championships as one of the main features at this years Gadget Show Live at the NEC! Over 100,000 tickets have been sold for the biggest home tech event in the UK which starts April the 12th and finishes on the 17th.

Robo Challenge will be hosting the full combat FRA UK Featherweight championships over 3 days. Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th will be the qualifying rounds where each robot will get 3 battles to score as many points as possible. Only the toughest robots will proceed as the top 10 machines go through to the knockout stages. On the final day of the event the top 10 bots will battle it out to see who will be crowned 2011 Robo Challenge UK Champions! Robo Challenge will be providing some great prizes for the top 3 robots and the winner of our annihilator competition which will also take place on Sunday.

If you would like to enter the championships sign ups are now open! There is a £15 entry fee per team which allows you to compete with up to 3 robots. Please remember we will be operating a 1 robot per driver rule through out the competition. Once the entry fee is paid please click on return to site where you are redirected to the sign up form. Here you can enter up to 3 machines as well as advise us on the days you are able to compete. We appreciate some teams have children that can€™t get time off school and so we will do our best to accommodate everyone. Once signed up we will inform you of the day you will be competing as soon as possible. This event is run in accordance to the FRA build rules and event guidelines.

There will be lots more information coming soon so keep checking back. We are really excited about this event as so many people will be able to see the sport on a high profile stage which gives us a brilliant opportunity to promote what we do.

nope this is a feather weight only event

sweet looks like i'll have to get boners repairs and upgrades done in quick time. I realise it's probably somewhere on the to do list with several million other items but will there be camping etc?

i think this is the school hols week?

We've signed up with Whirlwind, Heatwave and Whirlpool although Whirlwind may be changed for Aftershock 2 if that gets put back together in time.

Looks like this is going to be a good event- we have tickets for Gadget Show live anyway so this is even better :)

I wouldn't say no to it, personally. I entered last year's for my first event and I had enough left to compete last Sunday. Besides, you could always just enter the annihilator on Saturday & Sunday. Most of the destructive spinners will be in the semis & unable to enter.

Plus the white boards. There were about 5 a weekend day? in Yeovil. 2 of which were non spinner. Check out the rogue two videos for examples.

That would be up to the event organizers but since 'Robots appearing for whiteboards' came up in the entry form - I would assume so.

i think if i was able to build a new body in time then i would enter

in shrewsbury the kids are off for 2 weeks, last day is fri april 8th, they go back the 25th..

matt, you av got weight left, double up with hdpe and u will be fine. i will see u their with hyperion and hopefully kinetica.

The scruffy Scots are pooling our resources, so Drumroll II and Boner have both been entered :D
Was just going to put Carcinus in the whiteboards but decided at the last minute to throw it in the main comp. The rebuild means it should - should - stand up better to the spinners.

If entry to this event means entry to the whole of Gadget Show Live, I will be very impressed with what James and Grant have organised for us, and also very excited as (assuming they have a stand again this year) I will be able to go and admire all the Roland electronic drum tech 8)

If u were to make a new body which was 4mm steel and 5mm polycarbonate top and bottom would that be enough?

Sign ups are going really well thank you every one. We are over half full already. Make sure you get your entry in quickly if you want a guaranteed place.

We can't do anything about car parking unfortunately however, entry will give you free access to the Gadget Show Live :) We will schedule all the battles so you know how long you will have between each battle to go for a wonder around the show.

Well you have to submit payment before getting the sign-up form so that might be a bit tricky :P

And that's brilliant news James, thanks very much. I'm sure the cost of the car park can be offset by the fact we're not having to pay for GSL tickets.

Just a general heads-up that there is a Travelodge sale starting at 6am tomorrow for £10 rooms between March 6th and October 31st for anyone looking at accommodation.

tried the £10 travel lodge deal that went live on their site today, but i couldnt seem to get a room for £10, think theirs a catch in it somewhere.....

I didn't have much luck either Adrian. Got up a little earlier this morning just so I had a good chance of getting something but it didn't help :(
The site didn't seem to be able to cope with the demand either, which was a little annoying considering how popular an offer such as this is likely to be.

I think I saw something about the £10 rate applying to one-night stays only, so if you put in for two or three nights for the competition, it won't show up. I think you'd have to book each night individually and hope that the same room was available for £10 every night. Must look into it more this evening.

Alternatively, I checked out prices for the Hilton, which is located within the same overall area as the NEC and is around five minutes walk (I think) from the venue, but I thought £1017 for three nights accommodation for a robot event was just a little much :lol:

do u have to pay in full at the hilton at time of booking, or at departing? could always do a runner :lol:

im only 45 mins from home so think i will just travel.

I imagine if they saw me they'd change there policy and make me pay in full on arrival. I am watching this forum keenly to see where people get good deals for staying.
