Gary Cairns' spinners are called Hornet, so I believe it's taken.
Yup:
Hornet (sorry Gary, only picture I had :P)

ok then :uhoh: I shall descuss what we are going to call our robot with my team but when i know what it's called I'll ask about that name to
From a Google search:
What about Vespa or Vespula? Sounds pretty cool and keeps a similar theme.Quote:
hor·net (h´rnt) n. Any of various large stinging wasps of the family Vespidae, chiefly of the genera Vespa and Vespula, that characteristically build large papery nests.
Or Vespidie?
Hempiterror?
You know looking through a thesaurus or wikipedia is more productive than a dictionary for this!Quote:
Hemiptera (tough leathery forewings attached to the body - like ladybugs, beetles) -thesaurus.com
if you call it vespa people will get it confused with the italian scooter company :proud:
Lol thanks Jamie!
Yeah both those machines were called hornet and both are since retired however I want to keep a hold of the name incase i decide to bring the vertical one back from the grave or build a 3rd one
Or rebuild the first one - you've got a lot of the parts!
It would look so good next to Boner - like peas in a pod.
i could do but i'm short of time for everything i want to do as it is! I need to upgrade boner to run invertible and redo the wiring so it's nice and neat amongst other things. I also have to get sabre finished off. Got most of the parts to get it done, just need to get some grade 5 titanium rods for the welder and i can go to town on a chassis.
All that plus i need to finish off my retrofit on my CNC lathe and then look to upgrading my power tool drag racer.
some great names there :) thanks and I think Hempiterror will suit me but they were all great names
Except I've just noticed I've spelt it wrong.
It should be Hemipterror.
Still even the misspelled name sounds cool, so your choice either way.
Even though Hemipterror would be the correct spelling, Hempiterror is easier to say. Basically because it flows better, whereas when saying Hemipterror, you almost have to take a pause between the 'p' and the 't'; there's an awkwardness about it.
Suppose it depends on how accurate you want to be, but nobody will really pick up on the mis-spelled version. I called one of my robots Carcinus as it was Greek for crab (and the robot looked like a crab) but whenever anyone hears the name for the first time, they just look at me blankly for a moment, then ask why I didn't just call it 'Crab'. So a different spelling probably won't matter much :)
I like Carcinus as a name :P but then I called my antweight almost-but-not-quite-a-Carcinus-clone 'Arcus' and now people seem to delight in referring to it in the same vein as a chain of catalogue stores...
come on argos! :rofl:Quote:
