http://www.roamingrobots.co.uk/shop/index1.html check these out if you aren't interested in building one, I believe Jonno hosts competitions specifically for these machines but I'm not aware of the specifics of these.
thx but id rather have a ready built to start wiv
But building your own is half of the fun, and you'll have that sense of accomplishment that you've built it yourself. :D
I agree. And besides, the Battle Ratz are straightforward pieces of kit complete with instructions so assembly shouldn't be too difficult. You'll also have the benefit of knowing each individual part, so if something breaks you'll have a better idea of what's wrong. If you bought a ready-built robot, you'd have to completely dismantle it and rebuild it in order to get that same level of understanding, which defeats the purpose of buying a ready-built robot.
I have a battle rat I am still unsure on whether I am going to part with. Roaming Robots events in the near future are a bit too far south of the border for me to only be able to use the battle rat. If thats the route you want to go down that is.
well i live in south east aroun there were most of the events are apart from barnsely
Hi Henry
Welcome to the forum If you have been to any shows you know what heavyweight and featherweight robots are like.
there are heavyweight robots for sale now and again but because of there bulk they are not suable for young beginners normally you need good engineering knowledge just to keep the things running, and the cost of maintenance and repair as well as transport makes them great fun but expensive.
Featherweight robots come up for sale too these are probably a more practical solution, they are also likely to break and need fixing, if you have made the robot, then you will not be afraid to fix your robot as you have gained the knowledge from making the thing.
Jonno's robots are probably the best option for a beginner as you can go to the shows and compete in that class gain knowlege of what makes a robot and when a featherweight robot comes up for sale you might like. You will know the robot from the shows and perhaps the roboteer.
Hope that helps
Craig
Believe me when I say that buying a feather weight then entering it into a competition quickly is a terrible idea.
Why take my word for it? I've done it! Last year I bought Kaizer off Jamie (KCR) last year. It got entered into the champs where it got knocked something silly.
Now I've had to start from near scratch all over again. Recycling parts is good but you'll always have the apprehension of making a robot for the first time.
Just my 2p worth.
ok guys thanks for the tip and i might be gettign a battle rat but Razerdaves helping me for a antweight to get me started
Sounds like a great start mate.
I started out with an antweight aswell and then a FW. Both retired and well quite bad robots but I learnt tons during the building process of them.
yer
Nice one, good plan mate.
Give me a shout if you decide you fancy a built battle rat in the future.
