got the drills and i'm planning on modifying them on Tuesday i'm also hopefully getting a radio set next week
Got bored so I decided to modify the drills. There were a few problems but I got there :)
Yeah the trick i've found out is that it is so much easier to get the chuck off before getting the motor setup out of the drill. Still doable but with more hassle to have the chuck on. But nowadays i could slaughter them in my sleep :P
sounds cool, any pics?
I can't right now i have to go to a karting cup but i will tonight.
Yep here you go :Quote:

have done and 1 of the batteries just died doesn't charge or anything :?
I read stories about that, I tested all the batteries before dismantling the drills. If it gets to the stage that you need them for use in your robot once its built there will probably be someone on here who has them going spare.
probably the thing is it worked yesterday when i bought the drills and tested them so i'm not sure. Also one of the drills seem to be faster than the other one i'm not sure about that either
From the looks of your picture it looks like one of the gearboxes might not be on as tight as the other? (top one in the photo looks less tight) Not sure if that would affect it or not, but worth a try.
if the top one was any tighter it doesn't work properly
So it came like that? A bit unscrewed?
Also, is this with the grub screws in? If so it could be that isn't not working properly because the grub screws are too tight. Did you put those rings in that that guide I sent you suggests? Because if you're using grub screws you don't need to, but it would prevent you from tightening those screws if the rings are too big.
it didnt come unscrewed i unscrewed it.
and yes i put in an o-ring
I see, I just used grub screws and not an o-ring. Well, I tried the o-ring method first, but like you say I found it made them run quite a nasty way.
I would say, just use the grubs screws I ebay linked you to in your enquiry post and don't bother with the o-ring though someone else may advise you otherwise.
Yeah heard the o-ring might tear and wear off during fights as combot robots tend to stall and such often unlike other applications.
I screwed in regular M5 bolts into every other hole as grub screws and then cut the top off.
I'll try the o-ring for a while and if they wear off i'll get grub screws
Just bought a radio transmitter and reciever set
Did you go for the giant cod set in the end?
hobbyking 2.4ghz set from andy for £19
Nice one, I was just about to suggest that sale post that went up
I just got the Tx and Rx
I seem to have a problem i have the CAD for the robot to scale and i realized i need wheels with a diameter bigger than 100 mm does anyone know where i could get bigger ones with nut inserts?
The new to scale CAD for my bot :
maybe you could rearrange the cells to make the packs more flat, depends how much space you have left inside your robot. i don't think there are any other suppliers of nut insert wheels other than robochallenge, you could always insert the nuts yourself.
That is as flat as I can get them. I'm not sure if i trust myself enough to add them in myself.
Could send James from Robochallenge an email and see if he can sort you out?
I will try and see what happens
Not much point in asking James to do a wheel for you - robochallenge already sell a 120mm wheel. Drumroll 2 uses a pair. Mind you that could make your machine insanely fast & manoeuvrable - think wild thing on fast forward.
if anything that could be better because its a rambot
No it doesn't :PQuote:

As far as I am aware, the 120mm wheels are available with nut inserts, but they're not used anywhere near as much as 100mm nut insert wheels, so they may only be available made-to-order. Best bet would be to contact James or Grant if that is what you're after.
How do i contact them?

I have the to-scale CAD and i have changed it the only main difference is it its now wide and short not thin and long
Due to financial problems I am unable to continue work on the robot will be continued ASAP.
